Chapter Four

Haywire

'Mine fell and I didn't want to get shot again'

{Jayden's Perspective}

I stood next to Mom as she talked to Chrissy. I held my umbrella up high to keep my blue dye from washing out further. I've never been interested in football but I always came to Jon's games, usually I had Jordan with me to converse with but seeing as both my brothers were playing I tried my best to find out what was happening.

"The town votes tomorrow on whether to grant him mining rights, so he's visiting all the spots, letting everyone see him as this man of the people, pretending like he's actually gonna pump money into this area" Lois said to Chrissy, glaring in Morgan Edge's direction.

I looked around the stands trying to see Morgan Edge. "Mom?" I gasped, nudging her hard in the stomach. "Jay? What's wrong?" Mom asked me. I kept looking at him as he walked up the stands. "Boy, they really pack them in here, huh?" Grandpa said as he stood next to me.

"Dad?" Mom questioned, shocked as I was to see him here. "I know it's a surprise, but it's Jon's home opener" Grandpa explained, not even looking at me. Bastard. "You never came to any of my games" Mom muttered, giving me a sad look. "Mom, can I go down to Dad?" I asked Mom, hoping to get away from Grandpa. "Sure sweetie" Mom told me. I started to go down the steps when I heard Grandpa say "Is that Clark?".

I ran next to Dad as Jordan ran out into the field. "Hey Rebel, everything okay?" Dad asked me as I raised the umbrella over us and Jon. "Grandpa" I muttered, gripping the umbrella handle. A small crack took me out of my state, so I quickly handed it to my Dad.

Dad pulled me in close, wrapping an arm around me. "Now entering the game, number 24, Jordan Kent!" The announcer called. I cheered for Jordan as the game commenced, still having no clue what was happening. "He got the ball!" I yelled, jumping up and down. "Jordan, go!" Dad and Jon chanted.

I jumped and yelled, having no clue what was happening until I saw Jordan go past the line. "Touchdown, Crows!" The announcer called, the stands went wild. "Let's go, Jordan!" Me and Jon screamed. I looked back at Mom, seeing her face darken. "Something you wanna tell me?" Grandpa asked in a low voice.

I quickly turned my attention back to my brothers, that is something I can not get involved in this time. "I'm going to be with the boys inside the locker room, wait for me by the truck?" Dad told me, placing a hand on my shoulder. I smiled at him, nodding before giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Keys and some cash for food. I'm starving" I smirked at him.

Dad laughed at my request, handing me the keys to his truck. "Don't even think about joyriding and there's five bucks in the glove compartment" Dad gave in, kissing my head. "Thanks Dad! You're the best!" I called back, running away from him.

I made it to the parking lot, seeing Lilli with an umbrella waiting by the exit. "Lilli? What are you doing here? Thought the after party bus left already?" I asked her, making her jump from my sudden presence.

She turned around with a smirk on her face. "I don't do after parties. My brother is picking me up, family bonding time" Lilli told me, putting the umbrella over my head. "For someone who loves family you never really talk about them" I mentioned to Lilli, the rain filling the empty void in my ears.

"Dad left when I was a baby. My mom raised me alongside my brother, John who was 19 when I was born. He taught me everything I know about mechanics and physics. My mom was from New Orleans and taught me how to make gumbo and do voodoo" Lilli giggled at me, shaking her hand at me like a witch.

I nudged her gently, her foot falling in a puddle splashing us both. "Think you can voodoo my old bullies, make 'em shit themselves during class or something" I laughed with her. "I wish, show them Metropolis dipshits" Lilli smirked before a RV showed up.

A man older than us smiled kindly out the driver's side. "Okay lovebirds pack it up" He smiled at us, winking at Lilli. "Fuck off John" She spat at him before kissing my cheek.

"See you around Kent" Lilli smirked at me before jumping into the RV and driving away. I lightly touched my cheek, feeling my face go red. I started to walk towards the truck. I grabbed the money in the glove compartment, jiggling the keys in my hand.

"Dad said not to go joyriding, right?" I contemplated, looking at my Dad's keychains. There was one that really caught my eye. It was the boys and I, when we were six. Dad held me on his shoulders, the boys at either side of him holding his hands. I remember, it was Christmas Eve and Mom kept complaining that we didn't have a good photo for the Christmas cards that year.

I remember I started to climb the props outside Santa's grotto, jumping onto my Dad's back. It was the perfect day, before the fire, the bullies, rumours. Before these powers, before we found out Dad was Superman. I rubbed the burn scar on my left arm, mind trailing up to under my elbow. "Can't joyride on an empty stomach" I decided before running off to the food stand that was thankfully still open.

I thanked the guy who gave me my curry and fries before walking back to Dad's truck. I saw Dad walking out of the school, a serious look on his face. "Dad? What's wrong?" I asked him, throwing him the keys before jumping into the truck. "You're Mom left with Sam, it's not ending well" Dad told me, before reversing the car out of the school parking lot.

"When does a conversation with Grandpa ever end well" I muttered, rolling my eyes, there goes my joyride.

...

I stayed outside while my Dad played mediator between Mom and Grandpa. The front door opened, Grandpa walked past me. I quickly ran inside, a bad feeling in my stomach. I noticed Mom and Dad taking a breath.

"Please don't tell me he's staying" I frowned, walking up to my parents. Dad nodded. "Great. And I thought the weekend was freedom from stupid rules and people" I muttered.

Mom gave me a pointed look. "Jayden, please behave while your grandfather is here" She pleaded with me. "Fine. But if he does anything I am retaliating, big time" I huffed, gaining a hug from my mother.

"Fair enough" Dad agreed with me. I pulled away from Mom, yawning as I did. "I'm off to bed" I announce before truding upstairs. I looked in the mirror for the first time in a long time. My cheek still felt all warm from the kiss Lilli gave me. Her brother seemed familiar, like I've heard his voice before.

I went into my room, looking at the mess I left it in. "Jesus Christ!" I exclaimed, looking at all the dirty clothes. "Language!" Dad yelled from downstairs. I only huffed before gathering up all the clothes and putting them into my hamper. I only had a pile or so left and the hamper was already overflowing.

"Mom! Can I use your laundry hamper? Mine's full!" I called, standing near the banister. "Go ahead!" Mom shouted up. I entered my parents room, putting the pile of clothes in their practically empty hamper. I looked around, seeing the countless pictures of our family.

A large enough candle was lighting up the mirror. The flame made me kind of nauseous. With a puff, the candle was put out.

{Lilli's Perspective}

"Clypeus lucis protegat et pugnet" I chanted, my hands hovering over my brother's suit. I felt the sweat drip down my face as I placed the protection spell on the hunk of metal and tech. "Lilli!" I heard my brother call, rushing over to me. My body went limp, my energy began depleting rapidly.

John caught me in his arms, laying me down on the chair. "Lilli? What's happening?" he asked me, checking my temperature. "Mother. Her spirit is stopping me from using my powers" I gasped, taking a gulp of air.

I shuddered, my body shutting down. "Your body is exhausted, you've been pushing your limits sister" John scolded me, giving me an awful drink. "What was that?!" I exclaimed weakly, feeling my tongue burn. "It's adderall, tastes different since you've only used potions to give you a boost of energy" John told me.

I stood up and went to finish my spell. John took the parchment out of my hands. "Hey!" I protest, pouting at my brother. "No Lillian" He ordered me with my full name. "Until you've taken a day's rest, no magic" He commanded, holding out his hand.

I folded my arms, glaring at him the green glow of my eyes reflecting in his eyes. "Your necklace" He stated. "Over my rotted body" I growled at him. "Lillian Alexandria Luthor-Irons!" John shouted. I took my necklace off, handing it to him. I stormed away from him, gathering my herbs and potions.

"I'm trying to protect you Lilli, you need to trust me" John sighed, placing my necklace in his little safe. I looked up from my potion rack, "That's what he said before using me as a lab rat" I growled at him before leaving the ship, forgetting about my stuff.

I was barely a mile away from Smallville when I felt a tug at my gut, pulling me closer. I closed my eyes, focusing on my breathing like mother taught me. Once I had shaken off the feeling I walked closer to the small bus station just outside the town limits.

Walking in, I greeted the man at the door, making my eyes glow slightly. He nodded before turning around to turn off the cameras. I walked up to a locker labeled '7734'. Muttering a simple spell, the door opened up with a click. I grabbed my school bag and second phone before leaving the station again.

"Thanks Leroy" I smiled at the fellow witch before the school bus began to drive off.

...

I walked into Smallville High, smiling when I saw her. Jayden laughed as she talked with her brothers, her laughter sounding like a hidden melody. Her entire existence made me wobble at my knees while butterflies attacked my stomach.

"Lilli!" Jayden exclaimed, her chocolate eyes landing on me. I smiled brightly before making my way to her. "Morning Kent" I greeted her kindly. "Lilli, these are my brothers" Jayden smiled. "Shadow boy here is Jordan and the one who looks like a douche with the chain is Jon" Jayden introduced me, causing her brothers to protest at the names.

"Oh hush you two" Jayden waved off, closing her locker. "It's nice to meet you Lilli" Jordan smiled at me. "Yeah, Jay Jay never shuts up about you an-- OW!" Jon glared at Jayden who kicked the back of his legs. "Stop calling me that! Also I do not" Jayden hissed at him, her eyes glowing silver briefly.

"Everything okay over here?" Clark's voice appeared, looming over the triplets. "Just Jon and Jay bickering, morning usual" Jordan commented, earning matching glares from his brother and sister. "Shit, you are Lois Lane's kids" I commented, earning a chuckle from Clark.

"That they are" He smiled. "Ms. Irons!" the secretary called from way behind the assistant coach. "Great, more paperwork. Who knew being an orphan was so exhausting!" I groaned. "I'll see you after school right?" Jayden asked me as I walked away. "Promise! You ain't getting rid of me that easily!" I called back.

There was a feeling in my gut that told me I wasn't gonna see her after school.

{Author's Perspective}

Jayden rummaged through the truck, cursing every so often. "Where is it?!" Jayden exclaimed, blowing her hair out of her face in annoyance. Where the fuck was her phone?

"Looking for this?" a male voice called out from behind her.

Jayden's breath hitched, her eyes widening. She turned around slowly to see him, looking down at her with taunting eyes as he held her phone. "Jayden Martha Kent" Kilgrave chuckled, looking like a homeless man from off the streets.

"Thaddeus Bitch Kilgrave" Jayden gasped, fidgeting with her hands behind her back, searching for her ELT. "Now, why don't you be a good little girl and put your hands in front of you" Thaddeus glared, pointing a gun at her. Jayden did what she was told, dropping her ELT on the seat of the truck, knowing it wouldn't end well. "Now, you're going to follow me or I'll destroy everything you hold dear, alright?" He commanded, a van driving up behind him with the door open.

Jayden gulped before walking into the van, the cold metal cock of the gun pressed into her back. "Good girl" Thaddeus chuckled before injecting Jayden in her neck. She fell quickly on the van floor, her head hitting it harder than expected.

" Where to next boss?" the driver asked, the doors closing around him. "Metropolis. Time to give Superman a run for his cape" Thaddeus laughed, kicking Jayden to the side, blood seeping from the side of her head.

...

Jayden woke up tied to something cold, her vision blurry without her glasses. "Look who's awake" Thaddeus grinned, sitting up from his work bench. Jayden could make about his form, trying to get away from him.

Thaddeus gripped her chin, making the teen look up at him. He placed her broken glasses on her face, the crack in the right lense mirroring the large portion of half dried blood on her head. Jayden spat at him, anger flowing through her veins.

Thaddeus wiped her spit off his suken face. He only grinned darkly at her, making a pit in the teen's stomach. "You haven't changed at all Ms Kent, let me ask how is your family? Been awhile since you made the local crime section on the Planet?" He walked away from her, continuing to work on his newest weapon.

Jayden didn't answer, trying to break the restraints that were now cutting her wrists. "Don't bother, not even Big blue could break them unless he used heat" The man taunted her, waving his screwdriver in the air.

Jayden huffed, looking at her feet. "I heard about the fire. Must have been quite a scare". No answer, again. Thaddeus turned around in his spinny chair, raising an eyebrow. "You know, I was charged with attempted murder after Superman saved you, added eight years into my four life sentences. I studied you, every article, every prize, piece of public damage you caused and you want to know what I found?" Tahddeus came closer to her, making Jayden squirm.

"You're just a scared little girl with no one who really cares about you".

You're wrong, I have my family.

"No one who listens to you"

Jon and Jordan listen to me, just not recently

"No one who understands what it's like to be different"

Dad understands, just with different experiences.

"What it's like to be smart"

Mom is smart, but not smart like me.

"To be broken"

Jayden had nothing to prove him wrong in her mind. She tried to think but her mind was blank. "This gun can affect Superman's hearing, enough to make him bleed if my calculations are right" He admired his gun, showing Jayden.

"If I can make you bleed enough, I'll know it works for sure" Thaddeus wore a devilish smile, looking down at Jayden wickedly. "I hope Superman beats the living shit out of you" Jayden spat.

"We'll see about that" He pointed the gun at her, pressing on the trigger. Jayden's head lit up, like fire burning her ears. It felt like the first time her powers surfaced, in the field after Dad told them he was Superman.

The rush of adrenaline flooding her senses, clouding her mind and forcing out her energy. But this was different. It was a million times more painful, she wanted to grab a knife and just cut off her ears for good. She couldn't see the red droplets of blood pattering on the floor.

Her hands began to shake, the pain being too much. "STOP! PL-- PLEASE!" Jayden screamed, tears rushing down her face. It had felt like years as the pain worsened. By now the amount of blood she lossed could have filled a blood bank for an entire year.

The pain stopped, Thadeus lowering his gun. He smiled, putting the gun down and grabbing a needle. He grabbed Jayden by the throat, choking her slightly. "Now, now. We need your full attention for Superman" He tutted, injecting her with the needle.

...

"Boys, I gotta head back to the DOD for an emergency" Sam said walking past his grandsons. He turned, looking at them with worry in his eyes. "I wanna say, I'm sorry for the changes you're having to endure. Jordan, I know that you're showing signs of being special" He began, knowing this would work in his favour.

"Not that big a deal, really" Jordan brushed off, hoing not to talk about this with his grandfather. "Yeah. Yeah, come on, Grandpa. He's just the same old barely-above-average kid" Jon smiled, noticing as per usual he left Jayden out like she didn't exist.

"All right, well, what I do know is your dad is very special. I didn't want you to know that, yet here we are. And given that your dad is the most important force for good in the entire world, that means you have an obligation too. Don't waste his time. Try to think about the fact that when your dad gets distracted, lives are at stake. Understood?" Sam lectured the boys, making them feel like utter shit, like he usually does.

"Yes. Sure" The boys said in unison, hoping the man would just leave. "Then act accordingly. And for the record, helluva hit last night" Sam chuckled before he drove off, leaving the boys in peace. "What are the bets Jayden is making out with Lilli?" Jon asked his brother, earning a groan from Jordan. "Can we not talk about our sister's love life please?" Jordan asked his brother.

"What do you think? You wanna go to Wellnitz's party, or what?" Jon asked, changing the subject. "You worried about Tag?" Jordan asked him. "Yeah" Jon sighed, worried about his friend. "Let me text Sarah for a ride" Jordan said, taking out his phone.

...

Clark walked behind Sam, looking at the computers trying to track Kilgrave. "Nice of you to show up" Sam commented, looking more serious than usual. "Came as a courtesy" Clark commented, hands on his hips.

"You wanna talk about courtesy? How about showing me the courtesy of doing your job?" Sam remarked. "I don't really think of it as a job, General. It's more of a call to responsibility. It's something you and I have in common" Clark commented. "So since I'm here, how about we figure this out together, hmm?" Clark added looking at Sam before a woman took his attention. "Sir, we have footage of the suspect taking a hostage to the docks" She said, typing on a stray computer.

Footage of Thaddeus and his men appeared coming out of a silver van with someone unconscious. "Enhance frame. Do a facial scan" Sam ordered. In a few moments a profile came up. Jayden's mugshot from eight weeks ago appeared, her hair being the only difference as it was purple instead of blue.

"It's your granddaughter sir" another soldier said. Clark felt his jaw tighten, his heartstrings tugging and pulling as he watched the footage. How did he not know his own daughter was taken?

"When was this?" Clark asked, rage boiling in his veins. "Three hours ago. Leads all the way back to Smallville High School" the female soldier answered, more footage of the kidnapping shown. Clark saw from the corner of the video that Jayden had her ELT. Why didn't she use it?

"You got a location?" Sam demanded, his voice stern. He looked back at Clark, hoping for once he would listen. "Don't do anything stupid" Sam warned him before he sped out the door already reading where Kilgrave was now.

"Send a team out, do not engage until Kilgrave is down" Sam ordered, some of his men and women already leaving the room. "What about your granddaughter?" one asked, but no answer was given.

...

"Where's Kilgrave?" Clark asked the man standing in by the statue. "He just said to come and get you" the lacky answered before running out of the target zone. Before Clark could react a wave of sound pushed forward, causing him to lose balance.

"For the sonic blaster to work, I needed you in close range" Kilgrave called, walking down towards Clark calmly. "I also needed a test subject". Two other lackeys brought Jayden to the fight, her mouth covered in dry blood and her hands still bound.

Clark looked at his baby girl, his heart shattering into a million pieces. Blood covered most of her face, her hair tangled with dried blood. Her wrists were bleeding as she was dragged closer to him.

"You remember her. The little girl who helped you arrest me three years ago?" Thaddeus asked, already knowing the answer. "Let her go, she's just a child" Clark begged, the sight of Jayden like this eating him alive. "No. Sadly this child has a use. You see the more I attack you with this blaster, the longer Jayden will live" What was this mad man talking about?

The lackeys pushed to the ground, making you yelp in pain. A metal object was dropped at her head as it lay against the cold concrete, staring at her father. " That is a mechanical firecracker. Once I blast you again it will activate causing a big burst of fire. But as long as I keep blasting you, the slower the bomb will take to explode" Thaddeus explained, shooting Clark once more.

The beeping sound of the fire bomb made Jayden struggle to move away, her body too exhausted to move. "Daddy" She sighed, her voice barely heard by the people around her.

"I've had a lot of time to think about you, obsessively tracking your patterns" Thaddeus spoke, blasting Clark once again, the aftershocks making Jayden throw up on the ground with puke and blood.

"I noticed you haven't been around Metropolis quite as much" Thaddeus tutted at Jayden, walking closer to her. He kicked her towards the statue, watching her cough up blood before kicking the fire bomb closer to her. "But that's how I knew that the, um, big shots would move me to a more secure prison. It seems like you're obligated elsewhere" Thaddeus noticed Clark was about to strike and blasted him again.

"That makes you distracted. Vulnerable. A weakling" Thaddeus taunted him, increasing the pain with every word he spat. "And Ms. Kent, the barely twelve year old girl who caused my capture. I studied her too. After that fire, I only predicted that she would have a fear of fire" Thaddeus smirked, seeing Clark get angrier with him.

The firebomb began to beep faster, gaining Jayden's attention. "Let's see how afraid of fire this firecracker really is" Thaddeus walked back to Clark. Jayden was able to sit up, crawling back until her back hit the statue's base.

"Not so brave now are we Jayden" Thaddeus taunted. Jayden could have her brother's ELT, it screeched in her head making her crawl in on herself. "Daddy, please" Jayden bawled, her salty tears mixing with her puke and blood as she covered her ears.

A wave of sound passed from where Clark was. The beeping got faster until it was gone in a gust of air. Clark held the firebomb in the air, flying higher and higher until he threw it, watching the fire die out quickly.

He landed back, walking over to Jayden. He held her close, lifting her bridal style. "Kilgrave's down. Come and get him. And send medical units. Bystanders on-site. I'm bringing the hostage home" Clark orders through the com. He broke the restraints on Jayden's wrists before flying to Smallville with her in his arms.

"Daddy... It hurts" Jayden cried at his chest, trying to hold on as tight as she could. "Shushhhh, it's okay baby girl. I'm here now" Clark cooed softly against the harsh winds. They landed in the woods, where Jon and Jordan were trying to save Tag Harris.

"Dad! What happened to her!" Jon went into overprotective brother mode, running up to his father, scared for Jayden. Jordan followed in suit, noticing the blood on his baby sister's body. "Not now, what happened?" Clark asked, feeling Jayden curl into a ball.

"Tag Harris" Jon exaggerated. Clark placed Jayden on the ground, leaning her by a tree. "Watch your sister, I'll be back soon" Clark said before flying off. "Jaybird? You okay?" Jon asks his sister, taking her hand in his.

"It's coming... the last son...." Jayden mumbled, her eyes glowing a soft silver. She groaned in pain, a weird noise invading her head.

'Liguhsh zhod zhiwhehnah'

Tag appeared in front of the triplets, the boys jumping in front of their injured sister. Jordan tried to help him again. But before he could take a step towards his brother's friend, Jayden jumped in front of them, her hands up with silver colouring her veins.

Tag was trusted forward, going in the direction of Jayden. Her eyes glowed brightly, her veins all over her body turning silver. Her hair began to float, streaks going white rapidly taking up most of her hair.

"Throniv kryp!" Jayden screamed, a barrier surrounded the triplets, Jayden holding it with her hands. Jon and Jordan looked in awe. A new figure rose from behind Jayden, towering her as she held her hands to match Jayden's.

Clark swooped down, grabbing Tag and lifting him up high to calm him down. When he landed, Jayden still held the barrier, preventing Clark from entering. "Rebel, you need to stop" Clark warned her, listening to her heightened heartbeat.

"Zha...jahghah" Jayden gritted, her hands fell limp. She fell into Clark's arms, her hands on his. Clark felt a burning sensation on his hands making them burn. Jayden quickly snapped out of her trance, the silver glowing in her veins dying down. Jon and Jordan quickly ran up, seeing that their sister was somehow causing their father physical pain. They both took hold of her hands, not gaining a single touch of pain. "Ue" Jayden muttered before her body completely shut down. Her hands and eyes stopped glowing and she was back in Clark's arms, with no signs of consciousness.

"What the fuck!"

...

Lois applied Aloe Vera to Clark's burned hands, her mind racing. "Jayden? She did this?" Lois asked, finally able to form a sentence, something that was quite new for her. How could her sweet, almost harmless baby hurt her indestructible father? It didn't make sense to her.

"Yep, and spoke kryptonese. It was like she was possessed" Clark recalled the silver figure that towered his daughter when she held the barrier. "Clark. It's like when she faced Kilgrave the first time" Lois remembers Jayden's distant behavior, how it wasn't until Clark came home did she break free.

"Lois. I told you, it was the reflection of the bullet" Clark reminded her. He recalled the slight glow in her eyes, but there was no way it was related to this.

Right?

"Say that to the little girl upstairs who has powers. Jayden has been displaying powers since she was a kid. I don't care what the fortress or Jor-El has to say about it" Lois argue with him.

Lois sighed quickly, she was using her anger from earlier to retaliate. "We've both seen it with our own eyes, Clark. Jayden isn't just kryptonian and human" Lois looked her husband in the eyes. He knew she was right.

"A public nuisance is what she is" Sam's voice boomed as the front door was closed with a bang. Lois' jaw clenched. Right now, dad? She thought. Maybe she could get away with murder just this once.

"Are the boys okay?" Sam asked, disregarding the grandchild that was near death not even two hours ago. "The triplets are fine Sam" Clark answered first, his hand on Lois' one.

"Well you better rally the family, the three of them need to hear this" Sam suggested, even though he practically treated the situation like a mission report.

Jayden held onto Jon as she did her best to walk down the stairs, her legs wobbling with every step. Jordan was behind her in case she slipped. Her hair was in a loose braid that started from her shoulder down, locks of her hair falling in front of her face. She wore one of Lois' cardigans and a sweatpants that belonged to Clark along with one of Jon's tank tops.

"Look who decided to join the party" Sam announced, making Jayden trembled at the volume of his voice. "More gentle Dad, she just had a gun designed to attack super hearing used on her" Lois hissed lowly at her father before walking over to her daughter.

"You okay baby?" Lois asked softly, holding Jayden's shoulders. Jayden nodded, not trusting her mouth. She looked at the sink, pointing to it. "W...Water....please" She managed, her voice hoarse. Clark quickly did as she asked, ignoring the sting of his hands.

Jayden smiled softly at her Dad. Her smile disappeared as she stared at the redness of his hands. "Later Rebel" Clark whispered, kissing her head.

"So where's Tag now?" Jon asked Sam, hoping his friend was okay. "He's with the doctors at the DOD" Clark answered, leaning back in the chair. "And apparently, they're taking really good care of him" Lois added, hoping to lower her son's worry.

"Did they say I did this to him?" Jordan asked, playing with Jayden's hand. She really didn't care to be honest. It was calming that both the boys stayed close to her. Jon played with her hair, braiding it carefully. Jordan drew with his finger on the back of her hand under the table.

"I had a team analyze that cell phone footage. Your heat vision caused a blast, but there was another material present... a yellow phosphorescence. We think that may have triggered the boy's meta-human development" Sam explained, giving Jayden a hidden glare as he looked at the boys. "Can we see him?" Jon asked. Well, son, DOD protocols are pretty strict. 24/7 monitoring, cover stories, transferring--" Lois cut him off, knowing it would only lead to more questions.

"What your grandpa's trying to say is that he's gonna go to a special school for kids with these sorts of abilities" Lois explained better giving Sam a hidden glare of her own. "Wait, there's a special school for kids with powers? That's pretty cool" Jon commented. "No, it's not" Jayden and Jordan spoke, her voice more softer than Jordan's due to her throat burning up.

"How many of these kids are there?" Jordan asked, concerned that he might be next. "That's classified, but let's just say..." Sam fiddled with his words. "Dad" Lois warned him. "Look, guys, we have to be clear on something. Why did you wait so long to use the ELT? Why didn't you call me the minute you knew something was wrong?" Clark asked the triplets, looking at them each.

"Mine fell and I didn't want to get shot again" Jayden muttered, earning a woeful gaze from her parents and an annoyed one from Sam as he muttered something incoherent. Clark glared at him for a moment before turning back to his kids. "Boys?" Clark asked.

The pair looked at Sam with innocent eyes. "Why doesn't it surprise me" Jayden commented, her spirits lifted that Sam was to blame for once. "You listen here young lady" Sam warned her.

"Sam!" Clark yelled, causing the triplets to flinch. "No, I'm sick of this attitude. She needs to learn how to respect authority. There's a school for troubled girls in--"

"I am not troubled you piece of shit!" Jayden shouted. "Really! Explain what you did to your father's hands" Sam shouted back at his granddaughter. Jayden shattered the glass in her hand, shards covered in blood. She glared at Sam, her eyes glowing. "Jay" Jon and Jordan put their hands on her arms, stopping the glow of her eyes. Lois watched carefully, standing up as her daughter clenched her jaw. "Boys, take your sister to the bathroom and get her hands cleaned up" Lois told them, seeing the gushing blood staining her hands.

Jayden looks at Clark, fear in her eyes. "I did that?" She asked, tears pooling in her eyes. Clark didn't answer. "Did I do that?" Jayden asked again, angrier that she wasn't getting an answer. Clark looked down, letting out a sigh. "Later Rebel" He repeated. Jayden began to shake before Jon and Jordan led her upstairs.

"Hey, it was an accident" Jon told his sister as he bandaged her hand. Jayden didn't respond, the thought of hurting her dad haunting her. "If it helps you looked pretty badass stopping Tag from hurting us" Jordan said, hoping to lift her spirits.

"I don't even remember it" Jayden whispered, looking down at her socks. "What do you remember?" Jon asked, rubbing her knuckles softly. "Dad... Lifting me away from Kilgrave... and a voice" Jayden muttered, trying to recall the best she could. "What kind of voice?" Jordan asked her.

"It was familiar, a woman, like I met her before" Jayden described. "What did she say?" Jon asked. "Liguhsh zhod zhiwhehnah" Jayden repeated the words engraved in her mind. "What does that mean?" the boys asked, clueless to whatever language she was speaking.

"Protect them great granddaughter" Jayden translated, her hands shaking. Jon and Jordan could feel the fear she was feeling and quickly hugged Jayden. "I'm scared" Jayden sobbed into their shoulders, hearing her parents argue with Sam.

"Don't be scared Jay Jay, we're here" Jordan reassured her, kissing her temple.

...

Lois knocked on Jayden's door, a bowl of banana and chocolate ice cream in hand. No answer. Lois carefully opened the door, peeping inside. Jayden was nowhere to be seen. Lois found it strange seeing as the boys were playing video games downstairs and Clark was working in the barn.

She checks her and Clark's shared room to see her daughter curled up on the bed re-reading Mirror Mirror, the snow white retelling she adored so much. "Momma?" Jayden asked, looking up from the book. "Hey baby girl, I've got ice cream!" Lois exclaimed, handing the cold bowl to her.

She sits next to Jayden, who rested her head on Lois' chest, listening to the sound of her heartbeat. Even though everyone says that Jayden was a carbon copy of Lois, she reminded her more of Clark than anything. The strong urge to know how she was feeling, listening to her heart and always reminding her of how much they love and appreciate her.

"Is Dad mad at me?" Jayden asked, playing with the ice cream by mixing it together. Lois looked down at her with wide eyes. "What makes you think that?" Lois asked her. Jayden shrugged. "I hurt him. He's indestructible and I managed to burn his hands. I'd be pretty pissed" Jayden whispered loud enough for Lois to hear her.

"Jay, your Dad isn't upset with you. We almost lost you today, your Dad almost lost you while he was out being Superman. No matter what anyone would say, he would blame himself if anything ever happened to you or your brothers" Lois explained, holding Jayden closer to her.

"I thought I was gonna die. I was gonna die without telling you or even saying sorry for everything I put you and Dad through" Jayden sobbed gently. "Baby, look at me. You have nothing to say sorry for" Lois told her daughter, angry that she even thought so.

"I'm gay" Jayden muttered, wiping her tears. "I know" Lois whispered softly. Jayden looked at her mother in shock. "Don't look so surprised, your grandma figured it out when you talked about Vanessa. I only connected the dots" Lois told her. "Grandma knew?" Jayden asked.

"She did, and she would be so proud that you're finally opening up" Lois smiled at her daughter, kissing her hair. "I told Dad and the boys before you" Jayden told her. "I'm the world's best investigative reporter, you really don't think I didn't see the secret glances when you had opportunities to tell me? Jayden, I'm your mother and I would never hate you for who you were" Lois reminded her daughter.

"Even if I became a criminal and took over the world?" Jayden smirked. "Oh my evil little genius, you and I both know I would have you destroyed with my words if you ever took over the world" Lois chuckled. Jayden couldn't disagree.

"Now, you need to talk with your father and tell him how you feel and sort this out. No daughter should be scared of her father" Lois told her daughter.

...

{Jayden's Perspective}

I sat on Mom and Dad's bed, finishing Mirror Mirror when Dad came home. "Rebel? Where's your mom?" Dad asked me, in his pajamas and his glasses in hand. "Got called into the Gazette, said she'd be home soon" I answered him, not looking up from my book.

"Rebel, what's wrong?" Dad asked me, sitting next to me. I closed my book, staring at his hands. They weren't red anymore but looked sore. "I hurt you" I said absentmindedly, still looking at his hands. "Rebel, what happened wasn't your fault" Dad told me. His words didn't register.

"That's what everyone keeps telling me but my gut says otherwise" I mumbled, crossing my arms. "Rebel, I'm not angry or mad at you. I'm more concerned that you almost died because of me" Clark told her, caressing her face, her scabbing temple and ears making his queasy. "I almost killed you" I sobbed as my voice cracked cracked, holding his hand.

I rolled up the sleeve of my top, grabbing a cotton pad and the glass of water on the bedside table. Dad watched carefully as I wiped the now wet pad under my forearm. After a few swipes a black drawing was familiar on became clear on my skin. "A tattoo!?" Clark questioned in shock.

"I got it after the fire, I didn't know it was you and got it as a reminder that Superman saved my life" I explained to my Dad, looking down at my family crest. "I got in blue but after today it changed colour to black" I told him.

Dad looked at me in utter shock, I could practically see the gears turning in his head. "Please say something" I squeaked. Dad threw his arms around me tightly, holding me close to his chest. "Ukzhim rrip" Clark whispered, kissing my head softly. "I love you too, Daddy" I smiled.

...

When Lois came home she smiled. Clark and Jayden were curled up in their bed, smiles on both of their faces as they slept soundly. She gladly joined them, feeling some peace from their chaotic lives.

'You did well great-grandaughter, now you must prepare for the legacy your families hold'
