Chapter 40
As the convoy traversed closer to the kingdom's walls, Anthony and his wives marveled at the majestic architecture guarding the entrance. The towering walls stood as a testament to the kingdom's rich history and grandeur.
Volet peered out the window, taking in the sight. "Such impressive fortifications," she remarked, admiring the formidable structure.
Dar leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "This is like something straight out of a fantasy novel!"
Geert nodded in agreement. "Indeed, it's like stepping into a different world altogether."
The convoy approached the gate, where guards stood tall, adorned in intricate armor and bearing symbols of the kingdom. As the vehicles drew closer, the guards signaled for them to stop, inspecting the convoy before granting passage.
Anthony straightened his posture, exchanging glances with Miliy, Flit, Dar, Reata, Farly, Vem, Yoa, Geert, and Volet, each sharing an expression of anticipation mingled with a hint of nervousness.
The gates began to creak open, revealing the magnificent kingdom beyond. The convoy proceeded through the entrance, setting foot into a realm filled with promise and unknown wonders, ready to embark on a meeting that would shape their path in this new world.
As the convoy drove through a small town, the convoy had to slow down a bit as they're were a lot of people walking around. Some stopped to gaze at the M-LTVs, SUVs, and the 6x6 truck with Vem waving at a few.
Anthony sighed heavily knowing this will be a long ride, "Better than a horse draw carriage." He muttered.
The townspeople paused in their activities, their gazes lingering on the convoy's vehicles. Some waved back at Vem, fascinated by her friendly gestures.
Dar glanced around, taking in the curious glances directed their way. "Looks like we're drawing quite the crowd," she remarked, peering out the window.
Volet chuckled softly. "They're probably not used to seeing vehicles like these around here."
Farly nodded in agreement. "Seems like we're a bit of a spectacle."
As the convoy navigated through the town's bustling streets, Anthony observed the locals' reactions, acknowledging the novelty the vehicles presented in this new world. Despite the slower pace caused by the crowd, he found a bit of amusement in the situation, appreciating the advancements their presence represented compared to more traditional means of transportation.
Soon after a tired 45 minute ride, the convoy makes it to the castle.
Anthony observes the castle grounds and noticed a high number of troops.
But not regular infantry troops. Special Forces.
From Tier 1s to Tier 2s.
He even spotted a few other Marine officers stepping out of vehicles dressed for the occasion, "Thank God I wasn't the only one invited." He muttered to himself.
Seeing other Marine officers among the guests provided a sense of reassurance to Anthony. Knowing he wasn't the sole representative from the military among those invited eased some of the weight off his shoulders.
Miliy glanced around and noticed the heightened security. "Looks like they're taking security quite seriously," she remarked, eyeing the soldiers stationed strategically across the grounds.
Flit nodded in agreement. "It's always good to have tight security in such gatherings."
Dar leaned in slightly. "Wonder what's got them all on edge."
As they made their way towards the castle's entrance, Anthony and his companions couldn't help but notice the vigilant and tight security measures in place, creating an atmosphere of readiness and caution around the event.
As Anthony, Miliy, Flit, Dar, Reata, Farly, Vem, Yoa, Geert, and Volet stepped out of the vehicles, they were met by a welcoming group of castle maids and butlers, dressed in impeccable uniforms. The maids curtsied elegantly while the butlers offered respectful bows, extending warm greetings to the guests.
"Welcome to the royal castle," one of the head butlers said with a smile. "We are honored to have you here."
Miliy nodded in appreciation. "Thank you for having us. Your castle is quite impressive."
Flit glanced around at the grandeur of the castle grounds. "Indeed, it's quite the sight."
Dar gave a polite smile to the maids and butlers. "Thank you for your hospitality."
Reata nodded politely. "We're looking forward to meeting His Majesty and his family."
Farly, with her keen observation, noticed the exquisite craftsmanship of the castle's architecture. "Such remarkable craftsmanship. It's stunning."
Vem couldn't help but admire the meticulous upkeep of the surroundings. "Impressive attention to detail."
Yoa smiled warmly at the welcoming staff. "We appreciate your hospitality. It's an honor to be here."
Geert nodded respectfully. "Thank you for having us. We're excited to be a part of this gathering."
Volet, with her past experience in royal settings, acknowledged the staff. "Your hospitality is much appreciated. We're eager to meet with the royals."
The castle maids and butlers ushered Anthony and his companions toward the grand entrance, leading them inside the magnificent halls of the royal castle. The air was filled with a sense of anticipation and curiosity as they embarked on this royal encounter.
Small time later, they entered a large ballroom with guests of all walks of either the kingdom or the neighboring kingdoms. Within the room was soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors from the UNE.
Mainly the ones who earned the Medal of Honor or something similar to it.
Anthony spotted Jacob and his wives in the crowd. He too was in his Dress Blues.
"Rawlins!" Anthony called out and approach his fellow Marine.
Jacob turned at the sound of his name, and a broad smile crossed his face as he saw Anthony approaching. He saluted crisply, and Anthony returned the gesture before they both shared a firm handshake.
"Towson, good to see you," Jacob greeted. "You made it. I see you brought your wives too."
Anthony nodded, gesturing to Miliy, Flit, Dar, Reata, Farly, Vem, Yoa, Geert, and Volet. "Yeah, wouldn't miss it for the world. How's everything on your end?"
Jacob chuckled. "You know how it is. Same old, same old. But this event, it's something else. Never thought we'd find ourselves in another kingdom again."
As they spoke, the atmosphere in the ballroom buzzed with conversations and laughter. The mingling of military personnel, dignitaries, and royal guests created a unique blend of camaraderie and diplomacy.
Anthony glanced around. "Seems like quite the gathering. Wonder when the royal family will make an appearance."
Jacob nodded. "Patience, my friend. I'm sure they'll show up soon enough."
As the two Marines continued their conversation, the anticipation in the room grew, setting the stage for the royal family's entrance and the unfolding of events in this extraordinary meeting of worlds.
"Captains Towson and Rawlins." The two turn to see now Warrant Officer David Fernandes in his Dress Blues with his wife Sienna Khan. The Bengal Tiger demi-human from that helped David a year ago.
Sienna was much more a woman than a girl in her mid-20s. She was tall and lithe, with slim dark arms and the sharpest eyes they ever seen, but she was undeniably beautiful in a combination of black and red robes that would have smacked of cultural appropriation if she wasn't from a long distant village herself.
It made her look exotic, with a paradoxical combination of more layers than a normal dress, and somehow ending up more revealing for it. Most of that was because the strips of cloth focused on what someone must have decided were the important parts, the chest, pelvis, upper thighs and legs, but had decided that the stomach, almost all her back and the entire side of her left leg should be bare.
"You two look nice," she said on seeing Anthony and Jacob. As compliments went, she wasn't blushing, looking away in any way as to make it mean anything.
Jacob and Anthony were quiet for a bit till Jacob spoke, "Thank you. I... uh..." He looked down at his ribbons. "Is that from your native village?"
"Yes." Her tiger ears flicked as she twisted and the skirt flared up to show her long, dark legs. "You've never been there, haven't you? It's much warmer back home, even at night. Our festivals would always take place on the beach by a large riverbed, so clothing is made with that in mind. Everyone would go dance in the water after, so the skirt is made to roll up and you can wear a swimsuit underneath."
That explained why the whole thing looked like it was one tug away from falling off her. That was a design choice based around it dropping off to reveal a bikini. David wished he hadn't heard that since his brain helpfully imagined it dropping off Sienna right there now.
Anthony and Jacob exchanged a glance, trying to maintain their composure amidst the unexpected details of Sienna's attire. Anthony, always quick with a comeback, managed a chuckle. "Well, we're far from the beach, but you're rocking that style here."
Sienna smirked, her tiger-like eyes gleaming with mischief. "Thank you. It's a bit chilly, but sacrifices for fashion, right?"
David chimed in, "Sienna here has been educating me on the intricacies of fashion. Quite a departure from our days in the field, eh, Captains?"
Jacob nodded. "No doubt. I never thought I'd be discussing fashion with a Bengal Tiger demi-human."
As they shared a lighthearted moment, the ballroom continued to buzz with activity. The eclectic mix of military personnel and fantastical beings created an atmosphere of unity and diversity. The impending presence of the royal family added an air of anticipation, and the night promised to be one filled with unexpected encounters and shared experiences across realms.
The trio continued their conversation, weaving between anecdotes of military life and cultural exchanges, as they awaited the next chapter of this extraordinary gathering.
"I see that you made it here safely, Marines." Said a voice that Anthony is VERY familiar with. The three turned, snapped to attention, and saluted to the two men in front of them.
It was General Dustin Walker.
And the newest 5-star rank in the USMC, General of the United States Marine Corps. General Anthony R. Towson.
In other words, Anthony's father.
Other soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors did the same thing as Anthony, Jacob, and David, "At ease, troops. Were at a royal party. So don't act like kids on a sugar rush."
The gathered troops relaxed from their rigid stances, and the atmosphere lightened as the military leaders mingled with the diverse assembly. Anthony, Jacob, and David exchanged glances, acknowledging the uniqueness of this situation. The presence of both generals added a layer of formality to the event, emphasizing the significance of the royal gathering.
As the party unfolded, a man who sauntered in was dressed in a crisp white suit. His tight white pants clung to narrow hips leading up to a bright pink shirt open the top three buttons and showing just a little of his toned chest. The white jacket buttoned twice at the bottom had a popped collar leading up to a face obstructed by a feathery theatre mask that covered his eyes. Bright feathers in hues of green, purple, and blue fanned out in every direction, partially obscuring the man's golden hair and giving him an exotic flair.
The man was not alone. A woman clung to the apparent leader's arm, her black dress sparkling and hugging her slim hips. Her silver hair – natural, it seemed, despite being young – fell to her shoulders, framing a soft and pretty face.
As if unbothered by the attention and the grand scene they're in, the masked man in white helped himself to a flute of wine from a passing butler, handing it to his beau before taking one for himself.
Stepan who is also a Medal of Honor or something similar to it and with his girlfriend Mylia asked the man who he is. Smiling in what he hoped was a roguish manner to him he said, "My name is Vivian. Vivian von valk volkvan. You may call me... V. Or V.V. Or even V.V.V.V."
He and Mylia cringed.
"V-Vivian Van Von...? Von-van. I mean Volk Von...?" Farly who overheard struggled with the name and almost bit her tongue.
"Vivian, is it?"
Vivian turned with a smile on his face to find two garishly dressed women approaching him with brightly painted eyes.
Stepan supposed it was a little hypocritical to call them garish when Vivian looked like a rejected pimp had crashed into an opera accessories store and come out the worse for it. In fact, some of the guests in attendance were, how should he say, uniquely attired.
Long fluffy gowns, puffy sleeves wide enough to take up two lanes of traffic and even one person who'd come in an outfit literally gender split down the middle. The left side of him wore a suit while the right wore a black ball gown. The clothing was about as functional as a razor wire pacifier and looked like they'd been designed by children with ADHD with a million dollar budget.
Or, as was more likely, he just didn't understand. It was Fashion. Not UNE fashion. In the same way a banana duct-taped to a wall was apparently Art where Stepan would have called it food on a wall.
It was eccentric.
Turning to face the two women, each easily is in their early 40s or late 30s, Vivian swept an arm low in what might generously have been called a stage bow.
"Verily does Vivian Von Valk Volkvan stand before you. And I ask, what virtue has brought two vivid and vivacious women to vie for my attention? That I might vicariously gaze in awe and veracious wonder at such vaunted beauty fills the vast depths of my heart with joy"
A couple of US, Canadian, Russian, Japanese, and a few Koreans looked at him like he'd gone insane.
"Oh my!" one of the ladies tittered and held out a hand. "You certainly have a way with words, Vivian."
Taking the hand he kissed the knuckles, aware of how the woman swooned dramatically. "Verbose and vociferous, it has been said, but if Vivian might vent in moments of verbiage, know it is when virtue vies for his vehement attention."
Some of the troops secretly pulled out a flask and drank it's contents to try and forget what this man is saying.
"Vivian!" the woman fanned herself fiercely. "Please, I'm an old maid." Giggling, she clung to her friend. "I'm Allison and this is Annabelle."
"Pleased to meet you," the other woman said with a more professional tone. "We're co-founders of Annabelle and Allison."
"Veritable veterans in this most vainglorious of industries."
"Yes. We've been in business for quite a while."
Allison tittered. "You've already struck such a powerful chord. Then again, there are plenty of veterans here from the military and royal world themselves. You must be nervous."
"I must most vehemently disagree," Vivian said loudly, aware of the attention aimed his way. "To see such vamped-up vagabonds strut about and vulgarise the most venerated of industries vexes me. That a competition where varied and vaunted would vie for opportunity to vocalise their vision, to verify, validate and valorously vow to scintillate the virtuous, be reduced to a veneer of vainglory, of voluminous and vacuous vermin vying for veritable scraps of vacant glory and thinly veiled effort, vulgarly victimising those who would vindicate us all."
Vivian sighed loudly, granting the now silent hall a moment to ponder.
Anthony, Miliy, Flit, Dar, Reata, Farly, Vem, Yoa, and Geert, looked at Volet and mouths, 'What did he say?!' Volet could only shrug her shoulders.
"My most vehement apologies, dear Allison." He raised her hand to his lips again. "To see what our world has become vexes me so. Forgive this verbose vomit of vitriol. Know only that Vivian comes not to vie for vainglory but for one purpose." His voice rose. "To vanquish vice and vicious vermin and give voice to those who are victimised!"
Releasing her, looking past her shocked and startled face.
"That is all."
"..." Everyone was speechless.
Vivian, seemingly satisfied with the dramatic impact of his words, gracefully moved away, leaving a lingering air of perplexity in his wake. The party slowly resumed its course, with guests attempting to make sense of the enigmatic interlude.
As Vivian disappeared into the crowd, his presence lingered like a theatrical specter, adding a touch of eccentricity to an already surreal gathering. The ballroom, now filled with a mixture of curiosity and amusement, continued to host the diverse and fantastical amalgamation of beings, each with their own tales and eccentricities.
Amidst the lingering air of bewilderment, the party regained its momentum, with guests resuming their conversations and the rhythmic melodies of music filling the ballroom once more. The fantastical characters, military personnel, and eccentrically dressed individuals continued to mingle, creating a vibrant tapestry of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Suddenly, the atmosphere shifted as a hushed murmur swept through the crowd, drawing everyone's attention toward the grand entrance. The towering double doors swung open, revealing a figure of regal presence stepping into the ballroom. It was none other than King Alexander IV, accompanied by his Queen and their two teenage sons and daughter.
King Alexander, dressed in resplendent royal attire, exuded an air of authority and grace as he moved with measured steps. The Queen, by his side, radiated elegance in her regal gown, and the royal offspring carried themselves with a blend of youthful exuberance and noble demeanor.
The guests parted, creating a pathway for the royal family's entrance. Anthony, Miliy, Flit, Dar, Reata, Farly, Vem, Yoa, Geert, and Volet observed the scene with a sense of anticipation. The teenage sons wore princely attire, while the daughter, undoubtedly a princess, dazzled in a gown befitting the occasion.
As the royal family reached the center of the ballroom, a wave of respectful silence spread, and the music softened to a gentle hum. King Alexander IV acknowledged the assembled guests with a regal nod, and the Queen offered a graceful smile. The teenage princes and princess, with a mix of curiosity and poise, surveyed the diverse gathering.
Volet leaned toward Anthony and whispered, "This is the moment. Protocol dictates a respectful acknowledgment. Remember, we are guests in their realm."
As the royal family stood at the heart of the grand ballroom, a sense of anticipation enveloped the space, awaiting the next turn of events in this extraordinary gathering.
As the royal family took their place at the center of the ballroom, Generals Anthony R. Towson and Dustin J. Walker, along with the military personnel in attendance, recognized the need for a formal and respectful acknowledgment. The grandeur of the moment demanded a display of honor and reverence.
With a subtle nod between them, Generals Towson and Walker initiated the protocol. Their authoritative voices echoed through the ballroom as they issued orders for the military personnel to fall-in and present-arms in a synchronized display of respect for the royal family.
Soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors swiftly and seamlessly moved into formation. The clattering sound of boots and the disciplined movements of the military personnel resonated in the air, creating a powerful backdrop to the unfolding scene. The guests, both military and civilian, looked on with a mix of admiration and appreciation for the solemnity of the moment.
The military formation stood at attention, weapons presented, as a symbol of deference to the reigning monarchs. The grandeur of the display accentuated the unity and discipline inherent in the armed forces, and it also served as a demonstration of the mutual respect between the military and the monarchy.
King Alexander IV acknowledged the gesture with a dignified nod, recognizing the military's commitment to protocol and tradition. The Queen and their royal offspring exchanged subtle smiles, appreciating the display of honor from the military personnel.
The atmosphere in the ballroom held a unique blend of regality and military precision, creating a tableau that captured the essence of the momentous gathering. As the military personnel maintained their disciplined stance, the royal family continued to preside over the ballroom, their presence commanding respect and admiration from all in attendance.
After the military personnel had executed the formal presentation, King Alexander IV stepped forward to address the assembled guests. His commanding presence filled the room as he spoke with a measured tone, projecting both gratitude and authority.
"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests and honored military representatives, I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for gracing us with your presence at this grand gathering. Your attendance not only brings prestige to our kingdom but also symbolizes the unity and cooperation that define these extraordinary times."
The room hushed in attentive anticipation as King Alexander IV continued, "In the face of challenges that transcend borders and test the resilience of nations, your presence here today exemplifies a shared commitment to forging alliances, fostering understanding, and embracing a future where unity prevails."
He turned to include the military personnel who stood in disciplined formation, "To our distinguished military guests, I express profound gratitude for your service, dedication, and the honor you bring to this occasion. Your disciplined display just moments ago is a testament to the values that bind us together—values of duty, honor, and respect."
The Queen by his side nodded in agreement, her regal demeanor complementing the King's words.
King Alexander IV concluded, "As we embark on this journey of collaboration and mutual understanding, let this gathering be a beacon of hope, a symbol of the strength that arises when nations come together. Once again, thank you for gracing us with your presence, and may our shared endeavors lead to a future of prosperity and harmony."
The room filled with a round of applause as the guests acknowledged the King's words, and the military personnel, having completed their presentation, returned to a more relaxed stance, blending seamlessly into the celebratory atmosphere. The evening promised a blend of diplomacy, camaraderie, and festivity, marking a pivotal moment in the history of the Unified Nations of Earth.
