Chapter 31

Chris and Sook made their way down to the hotel lobby, where Vincent stood waiting alongside a Japanese Marine Corps Private First Class. The young woman offered a nod in acknowledgment as Chris and Sook approached.

"Morning, Vincent," Chris greeted, looking at the Private First Class. "And good morning to you too."

Vincent returned the greeting, "Morning, Chris. This is PFC Hanako Matsuda. She's joining us for the patrol today. Hanako, meet my older brother, Chris, and his friend, Sook."

Hanako saluted briefly, "Nice to meet you both. Ready for the patrol?"

Chris and Sook exchanged glances, affirming their readiness. "Absolutely, let's get going," Chris replied, leading the way as they left the hotel, prepared for whatever challenges awaited them in the city's slums.

The four then enters a HMMWV M1152. As PFC Hanako Matsuda attempted to reverse the HMMWV, the vehicle jolted unexpectedly, and she accidentally backed into the front of a Ukrainian Tigr Infantry Mobility Vehicle (IMV) parked behind them. The collision resulted in a loud crash, and the Ukrainian soldiers near the IMV immediately reacted.

"Oh, no!" Hanako exclaimed, her face flushed with embarrassment as the Ukrainian soldiers hurriedly approached the scene.

Chris quickly stepped out of the HMMWV, raising his hands in a peaceful gesture. "Sorry about that! It was an accident," he called out, hoping to diffuse any tension.

Sook and Vincent followed suit, both trying to convey apologies and reassure the Ukrainian soldiers. They hoped the situation wouldn't escalate, especially considering they were there on a patrol mission.

The Ukrainian soldiers, after initially hurrying over, slowed their pace upon seeing the earnest apologies from Chris, Sook, Vincent, and Hanako. They assessed the damage, which fortunately seemed minimal, mostly scuffing and a slight dent on the Tigr IMV's bumper.

One of the Ukrainian soldiers, a Sergeant, stepped forward, giving a reassuring nod. "It's alright. Accidents happen," he said in a calm tone, gesturing for his comrades to stand down. "No harm done, thankfully."

Chris breathed a sigh of relief, offering a sincere nod of gratitude. "Thank you for understanding. We'll cover any damages if necessary."

The Ukrainian soldiers exchanged a few words in their language, then the Sergeant smiled and waved it off. "Not necessary. Just be more careful next time. Stay safe on your patrol."

Relieved and grateful for the understanding response, the group acknowledged the Ukrainian soldiers before getting back into their vehicle to continue their patrol, mindful of their surroundings as they set off.

In another part of the slums in the town, we see Major Stepan Kravchuk going to a church to pray. As he enters, he saw that the church was packed with both humans and demi-humans.

What he doesn't know is that a hit was placed on him, and the church is full of Que-Tourne Empire Army remnants disguised as normal people and the demi-humans were just their slaves.

As Major Stepan Kravchuk knelt in prayer, his focus solely on the sacred moment, he didn't notice a woman in the congregation staring at him. Her eyes widened in recognition, a cold determination settling over her features.

Suddenly, the ambiance shifted. Whispers flitted among the disguised remnants, and a few of them started to inch closer to the Major, their hands surreptitiously reaching for concealed weapons.

The woman, clad in worn garments that couldn't mask the fervor in her eyes, slowly stood up and approached the Major, a hand hidden in her shawl, poised to strike.

As he gets up to walk away, she starts to draw her weapon on him. Little does anyone know, a group of Que-Tourne Empire soldiers who have escaped the capitol weeks ago and now reside in the slums have been experimenting with black magic that affects the brain patterns.

As the soldiers activated the magic, all hell breaks loose in the church.

Their was just one flaw.

The magic only works on people from the Que-Tourne Empire and Demi-Humans of said empire. Anyone outside it like the Stepan, the soldiers, the marines, etc.

Will have no effect at all. In other words their immune.

As the woman drew her weapon, the sudden chaos in the church caught her off guard. People began acting erratically, some clutching their heads in pain, others thrashing about. However, Major Stepan Kravchuk, unaffected by the strange magic, swiftly reacted to the threat.

The soldiers from the Que-Tourne Empire, affected by their own black magic, were disoriented and unable to coordinate their attack effectively. Stepan, noticing the turmoil around him, assessed the situation quickly. With his training and instincts kicking in, he disarmed the woman before she could make a move.

The chaos within the church provided cover for the Major to neutralize the threat without drawing much attention. Amidst the confusion, Stepan, with the help of other unaffected individuals present, managed to subdue the remnants of the Que-Tourne Empire who were now struggling with the unintended consequences of their own magic.

Outside the church, the New Russia Army unit, on high alert due to the intelligence reports, moved in swiftly to contain the situation. The soldiers secured the area, detaining those affected by the black magic and ensuring the safety of the Major and the other congregants.

Though the attempt to attack Stepan was thwarted, the remnants' use of dark magic hinted at a growing threat, one that required further investigation and caution. The Major, grateful for the intervention and unharmed, retreated to assess the situation and plan the next steps in handling this unexpected turn of events.

As a few US and Ukrainian marines arriving on scene, a 31 year old Wolf Demi-Human named Mylia Silverdale who is a URK(United Races Kingdom) Army Scout Officer.

A Scout Officer is the rank equivalent to a Captain. And she's helluva good one too, participating in many reconnaissance and raid missions.

She approaches the Ukrainian Marine Major with some worry as she saw troops entering and exiting the church carrying bodies and throwing them in the back of a truck, "What in the Goddess happened here?" She asked Stepan as she saw a few demi-human bodies also getting throw in a different truck but with care.

In a composed yet concerned tone, Major Stepan Kravchuk turned to address Mylia Silverdale, the Wolf Demi-Human URK Army Scout Officer.

"We encountered an unexpected situation here. It seems that remnants of the Que-Tourne Empire were present in the church, and they attempted an attack. However, their own use of dark magic went awry and caused chaos among their ranks, leading to the confusion and disturbances you're witnessing now."

He gestured subtly to the activities around the church as the troops worked to secure the area and remove the affected individuals.

"Our forces intervened to ensure the safety of everyone present. The situation is under control, and we are addressing the aftermath. Unfortunately, some have been injured in the commotion," he explained, glancing at the bodies being handled by the soldiers.

"As for the demi-humans, they were not involved in the attack. They were merely present in the church and caught up in the incident. We're treating them with care and respect," he added, acknowledging Mylia's concern for her fellow demi-humans.

He then looked at her, an expression of readiness evident in his eyes. "What brings you here, Officer Silverdale?"

As Mylia Silverdale explained her role as a Liaison Officer, detailing her involvement with the "Forest Devils" unit, Ukrainian Marine Corps Lance-Corporal Artem Kravchuk made his way over to the scene to check on his older brother, Major Stepan Kravchuk.

"Major, are you alright?" Artem asked, worry evident in his voice as he glanced around at the commotion in the church. "What happened here?"

Stepan turned to his younger brother, offering a reassuring nod. "I'm fine, Artem. We encountered remnants of the Que-Tourne Empire causing trouble. It's been handled now."

Artem nodded in acknowledgment and then turned his attention to Mylia. "Nice to meet you, Officer Silverdale. Artem Kravchuk, Ukrainian Marine Corps," he introduced himself, extending a hand in greeting. "I'll help ensure everything is secured here."

Mylia reciprocates the gesture, shaking his hand firmly. "Pleasure, Lance-Corporal. We'll assist in the coordination with the Forest Devils unit to ensure there are no further issues."

As the three of them began to oversee the operations and coordinate assistance for the injured, they exchanged information, preparing for future joint actions to prevent any further incidents within the slums.

A 22 year old Cat Demi-Human named Alita Alsovar who is a URK Army Scout Ranker.

A Scout Ranker is the rank equivalent to a Corporal. And she's the other Liaison officer that is with Scout Officer Silverdale.

As Alita Alsovar approached the group, she offered a respectful salute before reporting her findings. "Scout Officer Silverdale, Ukrainian Marine Lance-Corporal Kravchuk, I've found several deceased remnants of the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers in a building across from the church. It seems they were involved in this incident."

As she spoke, Alita and Artem exchanged a brief glance, a subtle moment of recognition between the two. Artem, slightly taken aback but still maintaining his composure, nodded in acknowledgment of her report.

"Thank you, Alita. We'll ensure this information is included in our investigation," Mylia responded, glancing at the building indicated by Alita. "Lance-Corporal, would you mind checking the area with Alita? We need to gather as much information as possible."

Artem nodded, "Understood, Scout Officer Silverdale. Alita, let's check it out."

As the two of them moved towards the building, Artem made sure to maintain a professional demeanor while inwardly acknowledging the peculiar moment shared with Alita. They meticulously examined the area, gathering evidence and making notes to report back to their respective units.

Meanwhile, Mylia coordinated with the local authorities and the Forest Devils unit to manage the aftermath and ensure that the situation was contained and investigated thoroughly.

During this time, we see Chris, Sook, Vincent, and Hanako continuing their patrol in deep parts of the slums.

Right now Chris is driving while both him, Sook, Vincent, and Hanako are loudly singing the lyrics BITE ME by NEFFEX.

"Ain't no motherfucker in this world can do it like me!"

"Open up your eyes and insert a little vising!"

"You don't have to love me, you don't have to like me!"

"Got enough love in myself, in my psyche!"

"You should have the same in your brain nightly!"

"If you want a taste bitch, you can fucking try me!"

"If you wanna hate bitch, you know where to find me!"

"And if you go and hate this, you can fucking bite me!"

Chris stops the vehicle at a shop selling plants. He looks around at the variety of greenery displayed outside and gestures to Sook, Vincent, and Hanako, suggesting they take a quick break to explore the shop. They hop out of the vehicle, intrigued by the colorful array of plants on offer.

As the four went in, the shop owner just glares at them while her teenage daughter greets the four warmly.

"What's with her?" Vincent questioned to the daughter.

"My mother was a avid supporter to the Que-Tourne Empire regime. And since the loss of the regime she has a distaste of you...soldiers." The daughter said, but backs up a bit when she Chris and Vincent's eyes twitch.

Sook walks up to the daughter to explain why they had that reaction, "Just a heads up. Those three are not soldiers, but marines. Calling them a soldier would be considered a insult."

"What about you?" The daughter asked Sook.

"I'm a soldier." She answered.

The daughter nodded, considering Sook's response. "Well, it's not really personal against you all. It's just that things have been tough around here lately. People are still adjusting, you know?"

Chris chimed in, trying to ease the tension. "Totally understand. We're just here to pick up some plants. Your shop has some amazing greenery."

The daughter smiled appreciatively. "I'm glad you like them. Feel free to look around. If you need any help, just let me know."

As they browsed the plants, the shop owner kept a watchful eye, still clearly uncomfortable with their presence. But the daughter's warmth made the atmosphere a bit more relaxed.

As the four continued to look at the different plants six of the workers from the back of the shop come out holding supplies when they saw the soldier and the three Marines.

Vincent recognized all of them as the former POWs he and other Marines captured in that one firefight. Including Farrah. Who seem to be having flashbacks of that battle/her first battle.

"Hello there." Hanako said nervously.

The workers glanced uneasily at each other upon seeing the soldier and Marines in the shop. Farrah, in particular, seemed visibly disturbed, her demeanor shifting as if lost in a haunting memory.

Vincent stepped forward, trying to diffuse the tension. "Hey, it's okay. We're not here for trouble. Just browsing for some plants." He attempted a reassuring smile, though he could sense the unease lingering in the air.

Hanako tried to ease the tension as well, speaking softly. "We... uh, we didn't mean to startle anyone."

The workers remained cautious, but their initial apprehension seemed to fade slightly, perhaps recognizing that this was just a visit to buy some plants. Yet, the tension lingered, an unspoken reminder of past conflicts and the scars they left behind.

Soon, the four left the shop and went back to their patrol. Meanwhile Farrah drops down to her knees with others following suit.

"Are you all okay?" The daughter asked but double-takes at reaction the six have now.

Apparently, like 40% of Que-Tourne Empire soldier POWs. They were infatuated with men and a few women. Mainly the Marines.

And Farrah and the other five workers....well. Y'know. Were enamoured by both Chris and Vincent.

"You six are joking, right?" The shop owner said to the six in disbelief.

The daughter and shop owner were perplexed by the sudden reaction of Farrah and the other former POWs, their infatuation clearly directed toward Chris and Vincent. The shop owner was incredulous, unable to believe what was unfolding in front of her.

Farrah, still in a daze, looked up with a dreamy expression, "No... it's not a joke. We... we feel something special for them."

The daughter's eyebrows shot up in surprise, while the shop owner was becoming increasingly flustered. She turned to Chris and Vincent, a mix of embarrassment and exasperation on her face. "What did you do to these girls?" She demanded, a hint of anger in her voice.

As the shop owner confronted them, Chris looked slightly perplexed, while Vincent chuckled and offered a simple response, "Being an American Marine."

The daughter couldn't help but let out a small laugh at Vincent's reply, while the shop owner shook her head in disbelief, still trying to process the unexpected situation unfolding in her shop.

"Well, that explains it," the daughter said with a smile, trying to diffuse the tension. "Maybe you should be careful around here, especially with the... admirers," she added, gesturing towards Farrah and the others who were still starry-eyed.

Chris and Vincent exchanged a perplexed glance, clearly unsure how to respond to the peculiar situation they found themselves in.

Sook noticed the interaction between Farrah and the other workers with Chris and Vincent. A subtle pang of jealousy crept over her, although she tried her best not to show it outright. She shot a quick glance at Chris, her expression inscrutable.

"Looks like you've got some fans," she said casually, attempting to brush off her inner unease.

Chris caught Sook's look and tried to diffuse any misunderstanding. "It's nothing, really," he replied, glancing over at Farrah and the others, who were still visibly smitten. "Just a little unexpected attention."

Vincent, sensing the tension, changed the subject. "Anyway, back to patrol, shall we?"

Sook nodded, a small smile returning to her face. She focused on the task at hand, pushing aside her feelings of jealousy.
