Chapter 27

About three weeks later, we open up a city, once a bustling hub of life, had transformed into a somber and tense place under the occupation of the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers.

Right now, the city is on high alert as many troops were coming with either injured or dead. Inside the hospital were the slaves(men & demi-humans) helping the doctors on treating the large amount of patients.

Doing a patrol in the city was a group of fresh recruits chatting about the situation.

"I still can't believe we lost another division last week. Even the scouts haven't came back too." A woman named Private Farrah Homes said to her friends/comrades.

"Yeah, it's been brutal out here," agreed Private Liam Turner. "The losses keep piling up, and it's hard to see an end to it. We need a breakthrough or some sort of advantage."

Private Samantha Davis chimed in, her expression weary. "We've lost communication with our scouts too. It's like they've vanished into thin air. Something isn't right."

The group's patrol continued through the occupied city, and their eyes met the grim reality of life under the Que-Tourne Empire's rule. The citizens, especially the male slaves and demi-humans, carried a heavy burden of suffering, their expressions a mix of despair and resignation.

"We've got to find a way to push back," Farrah said with determination. "We can't let this continue."

The group of recruits pressed on, aware of the challenges and uncertainties that lay ahead, but also resolute in their desire to make a difference in the face of oppression.

As they continued on, an officer is shown standing on a crate addressing her fellow soldiers. She has a eyepatch on after surviving the failed attack charge that she lead three ago in the winter region.

"I have brought news of what our enemy or enemies look like!" She spoke as many soldiers paid attention, "The enemies use black automatic weapons, they speak weird unknown language, they work with the filthy demi-humans, their flags have either strange or simple designs but one flag is always seen flying on their bases and camps. The flag consists of 13 horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with six white and 50 white stars on a blue field of the flag. Another flag that is flown next to it on some bases and camps consists of a black Double-Headed Eagle displayed on a golden banner with a tricolour of three equal horizontal fields: white on the top, blue in the middle, and red on the bottom. Another flag I saw that consists of equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. And lastly, most of the soldiers were men!!"

The female soldiers that were listening gasps in shock and yelled in rage hearing the their enemies were men.

The air was filled with a mixture of shock, anger, and disbelief. This new information was a game-changer, altering their perception of the enemy they had been fighting.

"They've been hiding this from us?!" one soldier exclaimed.

"Men... fighting against us?" another muttered with clenched fists.

The sense of betrayal and anger was palpable among the soldiers. They had been led to believe that their enemy was something entirely different, and this revelation shook the foundations of their understanding.

The officer continued, her eyepatch a symbol of her survival and resilience. "We can't underestimate them any longer. These men are our adversaries, and we'll fight them with all our strength. We must adapt and overcome this new challenge."

The female soldiers nodded with grim determination. The discovery of their enemy's true nature had only steeled their resolve. They would face this new reality head-on, united in their mission to protect their homeland and their way of life.

"We will not stand for this!" one soldier yelled, voicing the collective sentiment. "We'll fight back and show them the strength of the Que-Tourne Empire!"

The soldiers' determination echoed through the gathering, a powerful testament to their resolve. The revelation of their enemy's identity had lit a fire within them, and they were prepared to fight back with unwavering determination.

"Tonight, we prepare for a new battle," the officer declared. "We will adapt our strategies and be vigilant. These men may be formidable, but we are the Que-Tourne Empire, and we do not yield easily."

The soldiers, fueled by their newfound determination, began preparations for the challenges that lay ahead. The city was on high alert, and they were ready to face this unexpected enemy with courage and resilience, determined to defend their homeland against all odds.

"We'll stand together and prove that the Que-Tourne Empire is unbeatable!" another soldier declared.

The rallying cry spread through the soldiers like wildfire, their hearts united in a common cause. They stood as a united force, unwavering in their belief in the strength and resilience of the Que-Tourne Empire. Together, they would face this unexpected challenge, determined to prove that their empire was indeed unbeatable.

The next five days later, we see Privates Farrah, Liam, Samantha, and their fellow soldiers marched in unison, their footsteps echoing in the crisp morning air. There was a mix of excitement and tension in the ranks, as many of them were headed to their first battle. The vast assembly of 115,000 soldiers moved with purpose, ready to face the challenges that awaited them on the battlefield.

Farrah couldn't contain her excitement, chatting animatedly with her comrades as they walked. She felt a sense of pride and determination, eager to prove herself in combat. Beside her, Liam and Samantha shared in her enthusiasm, their hearts pounding with anticipation for the battle ahead.

The road ahead was uncertain, but they were united in their resolve to stand together and protect their homeland. The sound of marching boots and the camaraderie of their fellow soldiers filled the air, a testament to their unwavering commitment to the Que-Tourne Empire.

Farrah's voice was filled with excitement as she spoke animatedly with her comrades, "I can't believe this is it, guys! Our first battle! We're going to show them what we're made of. I've been training for this my whole life!"

Liam, on the other hand, looked around nervously. The anticipation of battle weighed heavily on her, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew the battlefield was a place of danger and uncertainty, and she hoped to make it through unscathed. She glanced at Samantha, who had a mix of determination and concern on her face.

Samantha offered a reassuring smile to Liam and Farrah, "We've got each other's backs, right? Stick together, stay focused, and we'll make it through this."

Farrah's enthusiasm was infectious, and it helped to ease the tension as they marched closer to the battlefield. The camaraderie among the soldiers was their source of strength and support as they faced the challenges that lay ahead.

The sight of the wreckage and the charred remains of Que-Tourne Empire soldiers served as a grim reminder of the cost of war. The once excited chatter among the soldiers gradually hushed as they passed by the aftermath of previous battles. The stench of burnt flesh and the grim scenes of destruction hung heavily in the air, a somber precursor to the battle they were marching toward.

Farrah, Liam, and Samantha walked in silence, their earlier enthusiasm replaced by a more solemn mood. The reality of the situation was sinking in, and they knew that the coming battle could be just as devastating as the scenes they had just witnessed. They clung to the bond they shared with their comrades, finding solace in the knowledge that they were not alone in this daunting journey.

Their eyes remained forward as they approached the battlefield, determination and resolve replacing their earlier nerves. They were prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that their training, their camaraderie, and their desire to protect their homeland would guide them through the trials of war.

Soon, the soldiers stop as the saw their artillery turrets in position the sky was a sickly gray, foretelling the gruesome battle that will soon take place.

Bright fiery and deafening explosions reverberated through the air as the artillery guns began their bombardment upon the battlefield. The sound of mechanical whirling could be heard over the thunderous blast, dictating the elevation of the artillery turrets. The land was now heavily peppered by artillery, laying waste to everything.

A soldier wielding a large bolt-action rifle shook her head, her expression smug, "Nobody could survive that bombardment."

"Oh, but they can."

Several soldiers turned their heads to glance at the lady who just spoke. It was a soldier with a distant and haunted expression with many scars.

"Sounds like our enemies are quite resilient." Farrah noted.

As the bombardment started to die down, it was time for the soldiers to ascend. The majority of the soldiers looked down on the ground with a fearful or conflicted expression. Everyone else had their attention numbly drawn to the battlefield where they will soon be advancing through what could be described as hell.

Several more artillery bombardment struck the land, sending debris everywhere. With the last artillery shell landing, it was time for them to advance.

Without a word, the soldiers bravely advanced towards the land in columns.

Hordes of soldiers slowly made their way forward, huddling down behind any cover they could find.

What laid before the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers was a dusty wasteland. Whatever once stood in the area was now in complete ruin. Burned, withered trees stood stripped of their vegetation and branches; rubbles of demolished structures laid in pieces; a single corpse of a Que-Tourne Empire soldier laid face up on the battered ground.

Everything was stilled.

And everyone was nervous.

"It's foggy," Liam frowned as she tried to see, "Was it from the bombing earlier?"

No one had an answer for that.

"I'm amazed that some of the trees are still standing after all of that." A soldier quietly said.

Samantha agreed with her, "No kidding."

The soldiers moved cautiously through the desolate landscape, their senses heightened by the eerie stillness that surrounded them. The remnants of the artillery bombardment had transformed the battlefield into a haunting wasteland, where even the trees seemed to stand as silent witnesses to the destruction.

The fog that clung to the area only added to the surreal atmosphere. It was as if the very land itself was shrouded in a heavy, unnatural mist, obscuring the soldiers' vision and creating an unsettling sense of disorientation.

Farrah, Liam, Samantha, and their comrades advanced in tight formation, moving from cover to cover as they navigated through the ruined terrain. The ground beneath their boots was uneven, littered with debris and remnants of the once-thriving landscape.

The whispered conversations among the soldiers were filled with a mix of apprehension and curiosity. The sight of the lone Que-Tourne Empire soldier's lifeless form served as a chilling reminder of the battle's potential cost.

"The fog's strange, right?" Farrah muttered as she kept her eyes trained on the surroundings.

Samantha nodded in agreement, her voice low, "Yeah, it's not just from the bombing. Something's not right."

Liam, her gaze focused on a distant, shadowy shape, spoke softly, "I think we're not alone here."

The unease among the soldiers deepened as they moved deeper into the fog, aware that the battlefield held secrets and dangers yet to be revealed. The anticipation of the impending battle weighed heavily on their shoulders, as they navigated through the eerie, otherworldly landscape that seemed to be holding its breath.

Everyone began spilling out from their covers, slowly moving, crouching. A section of the assault force took up positions behind rubbles, while another section continued moving forward, scanning the area for any threats. They silently advanced through the ruined fields, over the corpses of Que-Tourne Empire soldiers.

One of the corpses had its entrails spilled out onto the dirt ground from a mangled lower torso of a Que-Tourne Empire soldier.

"Urk." Farrah covered her mouth, swearing she could smell the scent of decay.

The Que-Tourne Empire soldiers began taking up positions in the craters and trenches. One of them fell into the crater coming face to face with a Que-Tourne Empire soldier's corpse being eaten by rats and maggots. She let out a small yelp, recoiling in disgust, and scooted away from the pest infested corpse.

As they advanced, the air grew thick with the stench of decay and the unsettling presence of carrion-eating creatures. The grim tableau of a Que-Tourne Empire soldier's mangled body, exposed entrails, and the scavenging rats and maggots was enough to make even the most seasoned soldiers flinch.

Farrah, trying to maintain her composure, felt her stomach churn at the nauseating scene. She covered her mouth, stifling her reaction, but the acrid scent of death hung in the air, an inescapable reminder of the brutality of war.

The soldiers around her continued to spread out, taking up defensive positions behind rubble and in trenches, scanning the eerie landscape for any hidden threats. The tension was palpable as they moved through the field, the memory of the artillery bombardment still fresh in their minds.

Each step brought them deeper into this nightmarish landscape, and they knew that the true horrors of the battlefield were yet to be uncovered. But they pressed on, determination outweighing their fear as they advanced to face the unknown.

They hunkered down behind anything for cover, wary of the heavily foggy hills just ahead of them. Without any clear visual on the area, it was a potential deathtrap for them.

As everyone got into position, a lone soldier crawled towards a large dirt mound with a handful of deceased Que-Tourne Empire soldiers from last week who were unfortunately caught up the bombardment.

The officer and her general next to her noticed something's not right. Something not very right.

Because there were zero corpses of the enemy. Only shell casings and broken empty mags.

The officer and her general exchanged uneasy glances, the absence of enemy corpses in the midst of the devastation giving them a sinking feeling. It was an eerie and unsettling discovery, as there should have been some indication of the enemy's presence and losses.

The fog that shrouded the hills ahead only added to the uncertainty, making it impossible to discern what lay beyond. The soldiers remained hidden, their senses alert, but they couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking into a deadly trap.

Silence hung over the battlefield, broken only by the occasional whisper or the cawing of distant crows. The soldiers knew they were in a precarious situation, and they couldn't afford to make a wrong move. The enemy's absence, combined with the thick fog, made it impossible to gauge the true nature of the threat they faced.

The officer signaled for caution, knowing that the unknown dangers of the battlefield still loomed, hidden in the fog. With bated breath and trigger fingers at the ready, the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers waited, hoping to unveil the mystery that lay ahead while praying for the best but bracing for the worst.

A lone soldier frowned slightly, unable to see ahead of the foggy environment and decided to get a little bit closer to the dirt mound. She leaned forward, resting her arm on the thigh of the Que-Tourne soldier corpse...

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The supposedly deceased Que-Tourne soldier instantly sat up, screaming at the top of her lungs, causing the other soldier to scream as well.

A .50 BMG gunshot echoed in the foggy distance, ripping a bloody hole through the NOW deceased Que-Tourne soldier's eye.

"Oh!" Farrah winced.

Blood and brain matter splattered onto the startled soldier's face. Another bullet flew into the soldier's head, taking off her helmet and brain as American, Russian, and Ukrainian machine gunners unleashed a stream of bullets, shredding the soldiers, and kickstarting the beginning of a brutal battle.

All hell broke loose.

Bullets tore through the soldiers' ranks, killing them in doves. Explosions shook the earth, killing those within the blast radius, or staggering the lucky ones. It was a bloodbath. Soldiers dying left and right. This is a battle like many others:

Bloody, painful, and cruel...

There is no heroic charge or stand. Every single soldier there, no matter which side or who they are, are faced with the dilemma of their mortality.

"Wha...!" Farrah was taken aback by how sudden and gory their deaths were. The escalation of violence and destruction was different in a sense compared to what she had witnessed.

The battlefield had transformed into a chaotic inferno, and Farrah, along with the surviving soldiers, found themselves caught in a whirlwind of violence and death. The screams and gunfire merged into a nightmarish symphony as bullets and explosions claimed the lives of many. There was no glory or heroism here, just the harsh reality of war.

The initial shock of the ambush left Farrah stunned, her ears ringing from the cacophony of battle. It was a stark contrast to her earlier excitement and anticipation. This was the grim truth of war – brutal, unrelenting, and unforgiving.

Her training kicked in, and Farrah sought cover, realizing that survival depended on quick thinking and staying low. The ground shook from the artillery and machine gun fire, and she knew that they needed to respond or risk being wiped out.

Gripping her weapon tightly, she returned fire, joining the desperate fight for survival. Fear and adrenaline coursed through her veins as she fired at the hidden enemy, her every instinct focused on staying alive in the face of overwhelming danger.

The battle was far from the heroic charge she might have imagined, but it was a brutal lesson in the reality of warfare. Farrah knew that in this moment, her training and her comrades were all she had to rely on as they fought for their lives in the midst of chaos and carnage.

"Incoming!" Shouted a soldier, aiming for anything she could visually make out from the distance. A loud whistling sound could be heard overhead as a mortar shell fell near her position, killing her and another unlucky soldier.

It felt like there's not a single place on this land that is safe. Mortars continued to drop on the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers' entrenched positions, bullets continuously whistling through the airs and into skulls. Those who bravely rushed forward were either cut down by swaths of bullets or engulfed in a fiery explosion.

"Down! Down!"

Nobody needed to be told twice, or even once. Through the relentless barrage of bullets and explosive bombardments, the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers still held their positions. However, casualties are mounting as the fierce engagement dragged on in what felt like hours.

In another entrenched position, two Que-Tourne Empire machine gunners were positioned behind a ridge, nested with sandbags, firing into the fog. Their suppressive fire was cut short when a mortar landed right on top of them, brutally dismembering one of the machine gunner's upper and lower torsos, tossing innards everywhere.

"Where are they?!" Shouted Liam to Farrah while they took cover behind a fallen log. "I can't see nothing!"

The land ahead of them was coated with thick gray fog, populated by skeletal and burnt trees. Only flashes from the muzzles of American, Russian, and Ukrainian firearms were the best they could pinpoint their location, which is difficult enough in this chaotic environment.

"Beats me, Laim!" Her partner shouted back, flinching slightly as a bullet struck the wooden log.

"Where the fu-!" A bullet tore through Liam's right cheek, sending her helmet flying and leaving a horrid gash across her face.

The Liam's expression was that of disbelief before a bullet embedded herself into the bridge of her nose, killing her.

Farrah watched at her KIA comrade/friend.

The battlefield was a nightmarish hellscape, and Farrah had just lost her friend Liam in a gruesome fashion. The reality of war hit her with brutal force. She was now alone, surrounded by death, chaos, and a relentless enemy force concealed in the thick fog.

Fear, shock, and grief welled up inside her, but Farrah knew she had to keep moving, to stay alive. She took a deep breath and scanned the foggy battlefield, her eyes searching for any sign of the enemy. Her hands were trembling, and the weight of her weapon felt heavy.

Bullets continued to fly, and the mortars rained down without mercy. Farrah knew that she needed to find a new position and regroup with any surviving comrades. She crawled away from the fallen log, trying to stay as low as possible, and gradually made her way through the foggy battlefield.

The screams of wounded and dying soldiers filled the air, and the stench of death was overwhelming. Each step forward felt like a journey through a nightmare. Farrah couldn't afford to dwell on the horrors around her; she had to find safety and, if possible, a way to fight back.

As she moved cautiously, she couldn't shake the image of Liam's death from her mind. The cost of this battle was becoming painfully clear, and Farrah knew that her survival was far from guaranteed. But she pressed on, determined to live through this hellish ordeal and make it back to her comrades, if any were left.

Farrah then backed up against a tree when she spotted a dismembered corpse with only its upper torso remaining and pulled it up near her face.

It was Samantha who is now a bloodied, mangled corpse.

Farrah's heart sank as she recognized Samantha's lifeless and mutilated remains. The shock and horror of the battlefield seemed to intensify as she gazed upon her fallen comrade. Samantha, like Liam, had met a gruesome end in this merciless battle.

Tears welled up in Farrah's eyes as she realized the scale of the tragedy. She gently closed Samantha's vacant eyes, offering a silent prayer for her fallen friend. It was a moment of profound sadness, a reminder of the brutality of war.

Farrah knew she couldn't stay here. The battlefield was unforgiving, and she had to keep moving to find safety and, hopefully, surviving comrades. She gently placed Samantha's remains back on the ground, offered a whispered farewell, and pushed herself away from the tree.

With a heavy heart and a determined spirit, Farrah continued her perilous journey through the foggy battlefield, her thoughts filled with the memory of her friends and the grim reality of war.

It was not only an exchange of violence; it was also an exchange of life. One that will see no end, even if the battle ended here.

"And fire!" A member of a machine-gun crew shouted to her partner. They covered their heads and helmets with their hand as the machine-gun fired from the pillbox.

Near the edge of the trench, a US Marine a AT4 rocket launcher was prepped and ready to fire. The Marine steadily glanced up towards his target, the pillbox. He lifted his rocket launcher, took aim, and fired.

A large whooshing sound could be heard, followed by a devastating explosion as the pillbox was consumed by a fiery burst of flame. The blast wave rippled through the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers fortified position, sending nearby Que-Tourne Empire soldiers flying. With one of their defensive positions compromised, the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers will have to distribute their defenses to make up any shortcoming.

Farrah, who had been moving cautiously through the battlefield, found herself caught in the chaos. Bullets whizzed by her, and explosions echoed around her. She knew she had to keep moving and find cover, but the fog and confusion made it challenging to determine the safest direction.

The battlefield had become a nightmarish landscape of death and destruction. The exchange of violence showed no mercy, and every step she took was a step deeper into the heart of the maelstrom.

Desperation and determination mixed in her heart as she fought to survive in the relentless onslaught. Farrah knew she had to keep moving forward, not just for her own sake but to honor the memory of her fallen comrades and to reach the end of this hellish battle.

Laying sideways, we see another US Marine named PFC. Vincent Towson started a countdown on a C4 explosive-filled satchel bag. Gray smoke hissed out of the corner of the bag.

With careful aim, he lobbed the satchel through another pillbox gun port and into a pile of munitions before hastily clawing his way back down into a crater. "Bye, bye, bitches."

Shouts of surprise and fear came from the pillbox coupled with a burst of gunfire before a massive explosion took out the fortified structure. Thick black smoke and solid concrete rain down from the skies, peppering the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers with debris.

The explosion created a devastating scene, shattering the pillbox and sending debris and dust flying through the air. Que-Tourne Empire soldiers caught in the blast were thrown aside, their bodies lifeless or gravely wounded. The sudden, fiery chaos sent a clear message that the battle was far from over.

Farrah watched in shock as the pillbox was reduced to rubble, and the acrid smell of explosives filled the air. The sight was a grim reminder of the price of war, and the cost of fighting to achieve victory.

The battlefield remained chaotic, with small pockets of resistance from both sides. The soldiers who had managed to survive so far pressed on, each step a testament to their courage and determination. In the fog of war, they faced uncertainty and danger at every turn, but they continued to move forward, driven by the hope that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

All of a sudden, two A-10 Warthogs began doing gun runs and dropping napalm on the rear of Que-Tourne Empire soldiers blocking their chance for an escape.

Farrah watched as the aircrafts weren't alone. Dragons began flying and sending fireballs at the ranks. "THEY HAVE DRAGONS?!?!"

The sudden appearance of A-10 Warthogs and dragons in the battle sent shockwaves through the ranks of the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers. The devastating firepower of the aircraft and the fiery breath of the dragons created chaos and panic among the already beleaguered forces.

Farrah, along with her fellow soldiers, could only watch in awe and fear as the dragons rained down fire upon their enemies. The combination of modern aircraft and mythical creatures was a sight to behold, and it brought a new level of destruction to the battlefield.

The rear of the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers was engulfed in flames and destruction, cutting off their chances for escape. The tide of the battle had turned decisively against them, and they were now facing an overwhelming force that seemed almost otherworldly.

Amidst the chaos and devastation, Farrah and her comrades had to find a way to survive and make sense of this surreal turn of events. It was a battle like no other, where the lines between modern warfare and ancient myth had blurred, and they were caught in the middle of it.

A Que-Tourne Empire soldier staggered out from a destroyed pillbox and was quickly shot multiple times.

"Іди, іди, іди!" A grenade was tossed into the pillbox from a Ukrainian Marine, followed by a stream of liquid flames from a Russian Marine using a flamethrower filling the area with blazing flames, accompanied by agonizing shrieks of Que-Tourne Empire soldiers as they came flailing out from their covers.

Throughout the sector, the Que-Tourne Empire soldiers were slowly losing ground; surrendering or dying.

A Que-Tourne Empire soldier was the first to surrender, only to be shot by a trigger US Marine with a M1014 shotgun.

The other Que-Tourne Empire soldiers followed suit, though they were more fortunate than the first one. Marines moved in to secure the prisoners of war while the rest spread out along the Que-Tourne Empire soldier defenses to continue the fight.

The Marines mowed down their fleeing enemies with impunity. Routed Que-Tourne Empire soldiers were chased and gunned down, eventually finding themselves surrounded by a swarth of Marines.

"Ceasefire! Ceasefire! Cut it out!" A Russian Marine Major motioned for his Marines to stop firing on the cornered Que-Tourne Empire soldiers. "Cut it out! Ceasefire!"

Farrah was seen with her hands up in tears as Vincent is seen aiming his M16A4 at her and her fellow Que-Tourne Empire soldiers. She and the soldiers couldn't understand what the Marines are saying because they don't know English, Russian, or Ukrainian.

But they did understand when someone is tell them to surrender by yelling and pointing their weapon at your head. Or by having them kick away your weapon from your reach.

It was a surreal moment for Farrah and her comrades, who had gone from fighting for their lives to becoming prisoners of war.

The battlefield now echoed with the sounds of ceasefires and orders being given in multiple languages. The prisoners were led away from the battlefield, their fate uncertain but no longer facing the immediate threat of combat.

For Farrah and the other Que-Tourne Empire soldiers, this marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, one that would be shaped by their captivity and the outcomes of this battle.
