Chapter-31

Yes...yes... I have not forgotten about kavya and kabir YET.

Kabir's POV

'Do you want to go somewhere today?' I asked as soon as Kavya came in the hall.

'Good Morning, Madam,' Raj greeted her as she sat on the chair beside Raj.

'Morning, Raj,' she greeted him as I served her bread with butter and I gave a cup of milk to Raj and a cup of coffee to her.

'Thank you. But, I would have made upma or poha,' she said as I sat across them.

'It's okay,' I said as I took a sip of coffee.

'You are not going to work today?' she asked.

'No. So let's go somewhere. Raj has also not gone out for many days,' I said.

'No, Bhai, you both don't have to take trouble for me. I am okay,' he said.

'But, I want to take you.'

'What if somebody sees us?' she asked.

At least she didn't say 'no,'

'We can wear a mask and goggles,' I told her.

'But where should we go?' she asked.

'Where do you want to go, Raj?' she asked him.

'I can go anywhere as long as I get time to spend with Bhai,' he said and looked at me.

And, it made me wonder that it had been so long that I had gone somewhere with Raj.

Last, I took him to zoo two years back.

'Let's go to our farmhouse but for that we have to take a private car. I will ask Suraj to give me someone's car for few days as if I take my car, people may notice and click pictures and put it on social media,' I said and decided to call Suraj after finishing my breakfast.

*****

One of Suraj's friend had agreed to give me his car in exchange for money.

'Go and pack clothes for few days,' I told her and went to help Raj to pack his clothes.

After helping him, I went into my room to see that all her clothes were on the bed.

'I don't have any bag,' she told me.

'Don't worry, you can keep your clothes in my bag,' I told her as I kept a bag in front of her and she was just looking at the bag.

'What happened?' I asked.

'This is the first time, I will be going somewhere. Except your hotel on the day of our honeymoon and my parent's house, I have not gone anywhere,' she told me.

I don't want to remember that she came to our hotel for her honeymoon.

'I don't know what to say,' I said, truthfully.

'Don't say anything. I just shared it with you,' she told me and I sat beside her and looked at her clothes.

'Don't you have any jeans, or skirt and tops, I mean... you only have kurtis and sarees, you don't like wearing western clothes?' I asked her and she was just staring at me.

'What?' I asked as I felt uncomfortable under her gaze.

'What are you even saying? I am a widow, Kabir,' she said and now it was my turn to stare at her.

What does she mean by that?

'Where is the connection?' I asked.

'You will not understand. Leave it,' she said.

Nobody will understand the connection.

I should leave this topic.

'When Sohum was alive, you used to wear it?' I asked.

'No. Dad never allowed me to wear anything other than indian clothes before marriage and I thought, maybe, after marriage, Sohum will allow me to wear, but he never asked me anything as you asked me just now,' she said.

'If he had asked me, I would have told him that I loved wearing western clothes and wanted to wear it after marriage,' she continued.

'Then you should have asked him that if he is okay with you wearing western clothes?' I asked, even though I wanted to say something different.

'No. I thought that he doesnt like it like my dad,' she said.

'So, Kavya, do you want to wear western clothes on this trip?' I asked.

'I can?' she asked excitedly.

'Of course, you can,' I said and laughed seeing her so excited.

'But, I don't have any western clothes,' she said.

'Don't worry, you only take few cothes, we will shop for you while going towards my farmhouse.'

'I am so excited,' she exclaimed happily.

'So let's pack our bag,' I said and took out the clothes from my wardrobe, folded it and kept it in the bag.

'Now, pack your clothes and come downstairs. Don't bring the bag. I will bring it downstairs,' I warned her and went downstairs.

*****

Kavya sat on the passenger seat and Raj sat at the backseat comfortably.

I looked at Kavya and she had put her head out of the window and was enjoying the wind.

'You seem very happy,' I said.

'I am very happy. Thank you so much, Kabir,' she said.

'It had been two years since I took Raj somewhere so I wanted to take him somewhere and you are also here, so I thought we all should enjoy few days together as you were also stressed about everything that happened,' I said.

'You care so much for your closed ones. If you can take care of me so much, then I can't imagine how much you will care about your wife,' she said.

'Yes. My bhabhi will be very lucky. Bhai will love my bhabhi very much,' Raj said from the backseat.

'I will never get married. I dont believe in marriage,' I said and both of them didnt say anything.

'Do you believe in love?' she asked after few seconds.

'I dont know what love is, so if I don't know what love is, then how can I believe in it?' I questioned back but she didn't reply and turned her head outside and again started enjoying the wind.

*****

I stopped the car in front of a shop and I picked up Raj and took him inside the shop.

I asked a chair for Raj and asked the shopkeeper to show some jeans, skirts and top.

They showed us some clothes and I asked Kavya to choose among them.

She selected few tops, and a jean. And, then she selected two sets of skirt with top.

'Only this much?' I asked as we went towards the payment counter and gave him my card.

'Yes. Listen na,' she said and I looked at her.

She looked cute when she said 'na' at the end.

'Yes, Kavya?'

'I dont have that much money now. I will pay you back after returning home,' she said.

'Shut up. Always talking about money,' I said, almost shouted and the shopkeepers were looking at us.

'Excuse me,' she said and left the shop.

Shit! I should not have shouted at her in front of everybody.

'Sir, you can say anything behind the closed doors but never shout at your wife in public place. Now, you will have to face the wrath of your wife,' he said as he gave me the card back.

I dont know, should I be angry at him for giving him lecture, or happy that he thought that she is my wife.

I didnt say anything, picked Raj up and left the shop.

'You should not have shouted at madam, bhaiya' Raj said.

'I know that I am wrong,' I said as we got near the car.

Kavya was leaning against the car.

I unlocked the door and put Raj in the backseat but while Kavya was going to seat in the car, I held her wrists and she turned around.

'I am sorry,' I apologized.

'You do this everytime. You have no control over yourself when you are angry. I am not used to people spending money on me,' she said softly.

'Then get used to it,' I said.

'Until when?' she asked and I didn't have any answer for that.

Until when?

Till she gets married to someone else?

Even though, for a second, I was happy that the shopkeeper called her my wife, but I know that I will never marry her, or anyone else.

'I was used to dad and Sohum spending on me as they were my dad and husband but what right do I have on your money? Dad always said that we should never allow somebody to spend money on us other than our parents or husband,' she said.

'You are right but think from my perspective too. I love spending money on my closed ones. I know many people but you are my close friend so I love spending money on you. I don't have anybody else other than Raj and aunty to spend money on and now you have been added in that list,' I tried to make her understand and she was quiet for few seconds.

'Okay, then I will also buy anything for you and you will not question me,' she said and I chuckled but agreed with her.

'But, what can I give to the man who has everything?' she questioned after few seconds.

I searched around and found many pieces of stone on the ground and picked one of them.

'Even if you give me this, I will be happy as you have given it to me, Kavya,' I said and she was just staring at me.

Then, she ran towards a nearby tree and plucked a leaf.

'For you,' she said and handed it over to me.

'Thank you,' I said and kept it behind my phone case.

'You were serious?' she asked.

'I am very serious. After returning home, I will put this in a book,' I told her.

She once again looked around and plucked a pink flower and gave it to me and I chuckled and kept it in the pocket and she smiled like I have given her a bag full of money.

I never knew, such a small act can make someone so happy.

I looked around and thought of giving her something like she did but miserably failed.

I am someone who likes to spend money on the people I care about.

I only know about gifting material things.

I have only seen people who gets happy when they receive money. I dont know how to make someone happy without spending money on them.

'Let's go,' she said and we both sat in the car, and I started my car towards the destination.

'Your dad bought the farmhouse?' she asked.

'Wow! You asked it too early,' I joked.

'Tell na.'

I am loving that 'na' at the end of the sentence.

That 'na' makes me feel that I am more close to her.

'Yes. My dad bought it,' I replied.

'Except me and Raj, you will be the third person to visit that place,' I told her.

'What?' she asked.

'Yes.' I told her and didn't say anything further and I am glad that she didn't ask anything.

'I am lucky then. You know, slowly, I am trying to accept the things you do for me,' she said.

'That's good.' I was happy after hearing it.

'I went there when I was small. I dont even remember it now,' Raj said.

'Yes. I took you there when you were five,' I said, as I remembered taking him there on his birthday as I wanted to show our property to him also.

'Thank you bhai,' he said.

'Thank you, kabir. For the first time I am travelling this far,' she said.

'Are you guys happy?' I asked.

'Yes,' both of them said in unison making me laugh.

'I am happy as long as you guys are happy,' I said and looked at them to see big smile on their faces.

I always want Raj and kavya to be happy like this.
