Chapter-1

Kavya's POV

I woke up and as usual the first thing I did was to take his picture from the night stand and greet him 'good morning.'

Then I brushed my teeth and had leftover rice and aloo curry for breakfast.

And, quickly packed bread and butter for lunch.

I decided to get ready quickly for school otherwise I will arrive there after the prayers and that will be not a good impression on the students.

I got freshened up in a black kurti and white leggings and did my hair.

Then I applied sindoor and tied the mangalautra around my neck and now I was ready to leave.

I locked the door and was walking down the stairs but I was stopped by Mala aunty who stays above me on the fifth floor.

"Good morning, Kavya. Going for work?" she asked and looked at me from top to above.

"I think you have gained a little bit weight. I mean, I am just saying because I am concerned for you. Don't take it personally," she said and I looked at her and gave her a small smile.

My dad always asked me to be friendly with neighbours as I live alone in Mumbai.

"No..no..aunty, I know you are just concerned for me," I said with a fake smile.

"I mean being healthy leads to so many diseases. When Soham was alive you were so slim and looked so beautiful but after he died you stopped looking at your health but you are also right. If he is not alive for whom you will get ready? Right? For whom you will look beautiful as your everything is gone," she said with a pity.

"Okay, I will leave now. Bye. Whenever you feel lonely living alone, remember that the door of my house is always open for you," she said and I nodded my head with that fake smile of mine which has seemed to be real by now as this is the only smile I have been giving to people for the past three years.

I took the elevators towards the ground floor and as soon I reached the ground floor, I took an auto towards "Little Angels high school."

The auto stopped midway in the traffic and I looked outside to see a couple holding hands tightly while crossing the road.

"You are so clumsy. You almost died and that's why I have to always hold your hand while crossing the road."

I remembered his words and a smile came on my lips.

Now I have learned how to cross the road carefully, Sohum.

The auto started but after few seconds it stopped and a man entered in the auto.

Once again the auto started and I felt a hand on my thigh.

I looked from the side of my eyes and felt that the man was roaming his hand around my thigh.

I didn't say anything but quickly took out the safety pin from my bag which I always keep for days like this and slowly pierced his hand.

"Aah," he shouted loudly and moved the hands away from me.

"What happened, sir?" Auto drived asked with concern.

"Nothing," he said and looked at me and I smirked and he moved away from me.

I got down as my school came and got down and gave fare to the auto driver.

I entered the school and Shastri Uncle, our security guard greeted me good morning with a smile on his face and I greeted him back.

"Kavya," I heard a voice and turned around to see my colleague Aashika running towards me.

"Thank god. I thought today also I will be late," she said.

"No. We both are on time," I told her.

"You know I kept the alarm on time but could not wake up early. Yesterday night Prakash tired me out. I almost slept at 3 p.m. at night," she said and I could see the blush on her face.

"By the way why are you late today? It's not like you sleep late as..." she said and I looked at her and she stopped whatever she was saying.

"I mean...I am sorry...I did not mean like that. I should learn to shut my mouth," she said.

"I woke up late," I answered her question to why I was late and ignored her statement.

"Oh. Anyways let's go before the assembly starts," she said and ran towards the assembly.

*****

"They are just students of class five and yet I feel they have so much pressure of studies," I said as I finished checking their English copy and after that I will check their History and Geography copy.

I am class teacher of class five and teach English, History and Geography of class five and class four.

"I know but we also can't do anything. Our hands are also tied," Nita, one of my fellow colleauge, said.

"Let's have lunch," she said as everybody arrived.

We all have lunch together in the staff room.

I took out my tiffin box and opened it.

"You are so lucky. You can get up late. I have to wake up so early to make breakfast and lunch. You don't have to make anything as you don't have anybody," Nita said, as she looked at the bread and butter in my tiffin box.

"Yes. I also have to make breakfast and lunch as soon as I wake up. My husband wants me in the morning but I don't have time for myself, then how can I give time to him," Aashna, another of my colleague said.

"Give him time at night," Aashika said and followed her statement with a laugh.

"I give him time at night but still he needs me in the morning but due to all my morning chores I can't give him time," she said.

"I can't give time to my husband because of my in-laws. So we both are planning a vacation next month," Kaira, another one of my colleague said.

Like everyday I was quiet the whole time eating my bread and butter and listening to their conversation silently.

*****

I saw their escort card and escorted my class. Everybody left except one student, Raj.

"Where is your guardian?" I asked him.

"I don't know why driver uncle is late today madam. I am sorry you have to wait today because of me," Raj said and I smiled.

"It's okay Raj. I will wait till your driver comes," I said and took his hand in mine and was waiting for his driver.

He is a very clever student and one thing I like about him is he finishes all his homework.

A man came towards us and showed his escort card and I bid Raj goodbye.

I followed them and was waiting for an auto when I saw his driver talking with someone on phone and the escort card fell from his hand and flew on the middle of the road but the driver was so busy in phone that he didn't notice.

Raj ran towards the escort card and as he was going to pick it up I saw a truck driving towards him.

Without thinking anything, I ran towards Raj and pulled him and fell on the road and Raj fell on top of me.

"Are you okay?" I asked him and he nodded in a yes and got up from me.

"Are you okay?" the driver asked and kneeled down and checked his hands and legs.

"I am okay, uncle," he told him as I got up.

"Thank you madam," driver said.

"Please take care of Raj and don't get busy in talking on phone," I told him.

"Sorry madam," he apologized as he opened the front door and Raj sat in the car.

"Bye madam," Raj bid me goodbye and the driver sat in the car and started the car and I took an auto towards my home.

Kabir's POV

"Sir, a couple started a huge fight in our hotel," Manager Raut, told me, as soon as he entered the cabin.

"What happened?" I asked as I stood up.

This is not good for our hotel.

"I don't know sir. I tried to stop them but they are not listening. I even tried to kick them out but they are in their own fight," he told me and I walked out of my cabin and Mr. Raut followed me.

I took the lift  towards the reception area and Mr. Raut followed me.

I reached the reception area to see many people has gathered at a place.

"What is happening here?" I shouted and everybody turned around and looked at me and my staff stood aside as soon as they saw me.

"I will kill you right here," I heard a voice and looked at the man with a knife in his hands.

"Put the knife down," I shouted and the woman looked at me and hid behind me.

"Please sir, save me from this psycho," she said and was crying loudly.

What?

Why is she asking me to save her?

"Psycho? Now I will show who the psycho is. Coming here with another guy to enjoy behind my back and calling me psycho," he said as he was running towards me with a knife in his hand.

"Stop," I shouted and he stopped.

"Thank you. Thank you so much. Please someone call the police," the girl was shouting.

"Sir, please call the police," she said to me.

"Give me the knife," I said to the man and he slowly handed me the knife.

"Thank you. Now take your girlfriend and leave from here. Do whatever you want but not in my hotel. Now leave," I shouted.

"What? I thought you are helping me," the girl said and I chuckled.

"I don't like meddling in other people's business," I said and looked at my staff.

"Everybody go and do their own work," I shouted.

"And please enjoy your stay here. I am sorry for the incovenience," I said to our customers.

"Make sure they leave in five seconds and if they don't, call the police," I said and Mr. Raut nodded in a yes and I came back to my cabin.

*****

After I came in my cabin I stood near the window and saw that man dragging the girl with him which made me chuckle.

For outsiders maybe he seems wrong but I felt the betrayal behind his anger.

I decided to call Raj as by now he must have been back by school.

I have given him a keypad mobile only to call.

I called his number.

"Hello bhaiya(brother)," he greeted me as soon as I picked the call.

"Have you finished your lunch?" I asked but he didn't answer.

"You didn't have your lunch, right?" I asked.

"No. I just now came from school," he said and I looked at the time.

"Just now?" I asked and looked at the time.

"Bhaiya it is my fault. Please don't scold driver uncle," he said and I cut the call.

I know something has happened.

I hurriedly left the cabin and on my way told, Mr. Raut that I have to leave due to some urgent matter.

I sat in my car and drove fast towards my house.

After almost twenty minutes I was in front of the door of my house.

I got out of the car and rang the doorbell and Shalini Aunty, our housekeeper and care taker of Raj opened the door.

"You are so early today," aunty exclaimed and I just smiled at her and ran inside.

"Bhaiya," he was shocked as he saw me.

"What happened today?" I asked as I sat beside him.

"Nothing," he said and took a bite of his lunch.

I went and washed my hand and once again sat beside him.

I took out the plate from his hands and fed him his lunch, aloo curry with roti.

"Bhaiya, you don't have to feed me," he insisted as he tried to take the plate from my hand but I didn't give it to him.

"Tell me, what happened today?," I asked as I fed him a bite and he told me everything.

"Please don't say anything to driver uncle. It was my fault," he said as I fed him another bite.

"I will not say anything to him," I lied and he told me everything.

"And from now on don't run on the road. We can buy hundreds of escort card but we will not get another Raj, right?" I said and he laughed and nodded in a yes.

"Thank god that your teacher saved you," I said.

"Yes. She risked her life to save me. Maybe she got scratches also as she fell on the road," he said and I nodded in a yes.

Tomorrow I have to thank his teacher but before that I have to talk with Suraj, the driver.
