A bit about her: Maddie was born in Seoul, South Korea, the younger of two children (her older brother, Michael, was 2 years older than her). They moved to Anaheim, California, USA when she was just three years old, so she doesn't remember too much about living in South Korea. She began writing songs and poetry in Korean and English when she was 5 years old. At the age of 9, she began listening to hip hop music. By 11, she was writing her own rap lyrics. She was beginning to seriously consider pursuing a rap career. Maddie started a YouTube channel when she was 16, and she built up a small following. But it was when she tried TikTok on a date in June 2019 that she found her fan base. She began uploading comedic satirical raps commenting on stereotypes and pop culture, and they turned out to be a hit. Her TikTok is still very centred on "hip hop humour", but she does do some dance and POV videos now. She moved to Los Angeles in December 2019.
