» Volume 2
"I mean, I guess so," Frankie laughs. She stands up and begins to walk towards the piano room.
Steve eagerly follows, nearly tripping over his feet.
Frankie takes no notice to his excitement.
The door is unlocked today. This is because she played the piano earlier, and she didn't really think she'd have to worry about her piano being touched. Once they're in though, she closes the door.
It'd only work if they are in an "isolated" area.
As Frankie sits at the piano bench, Steve sits on the floor beside her.
She breathes in deeply.
"Okay, so when I play the piano this time around, it'll be more like a signal—" Frankie explains.
"A signal?"
"Yeah. Cause I usually only play the solo when I want them to be alive again. Since they're already alive, this'll just be like a signal. A signal for them to come home."
Steve nods.
Frankie begins to play.
Steve quietly observes the girl's fingers as they drift along the piano. He's still amazed at her amazing skills. His eyes catch a hint of red that make him glance to her face.
Her nose is bleeding. It's more bloody than it already was.
She really isn't lying.
As she finishes the solo, there's a loud ghost of wind and echoes of whispers.
Suddenly they're surround by a large number of people. All them are very different looking. They seemed to be dressed in styles of different time periods. It's wild.
"You called?" A male chirps to Frankie. He's dressed in a suit.
"Yeah, I want you guys to meet Steve." Frankie simply says, turning to Steve. He is sat in quiet shock, looking around at all the people. Honestly, he's kind of freaked out.
This explains the key.
"He can see us?!" A woman squeals. They all begin to huddle around the boy, further frightening him. Chatter sparks amongst the ghosts.
"EVERYONE, CALM DOWN!" Frankie commands, noticing Steve's fright.
"H-Hi," Steve manages to choke out. Everyone steps away from him, still watching him with clear excitement. Frankie sits on the floor beside Steve and begins to introduce them all. There's too many names to remember.
"I must say," Alex steps in, "I'm thoroughly impressed with the man you've turned out to be."
"What do you mean?" Steve questions.
"You sincerely love Frankie, and all over her bratty self. That takes a lot of effort. The day you picked her up, I thought it was a one time thing. She's lucky to have you."
"I'm not a brat!" Frankie growls, defending herself. She swats at Alex, but her hand goes right through the ghost.
Steve laughs.
Ghosts are so cool.
"I must request something of you, Mr. Harrington," Tony hums, "in regards of Miss Prynne."
Steve takes a few minutes to understand his words (clearly not use to the sophistication).
"Shoot," he says.
"I do not wish to shoot you—" Tony begins, becoming confused by Steve's slang. Frankie bursts into laughter, and Steve attempts to contain his own.
"No no no, I meant– it means like, go ahead and ask your question," Steve explains.
Tony nods.
"Well, I understand that you have a family of your own— but, our dear Frankie does not. She lives off a horrendous diet, consuming nothing more than sugar and caffeine. I am asking that you– every once in a while– leave your family life to take care of Miss Prynne."
Frankie scoffs.
"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Tony!"
Steve turns to the girl with a scolding expression. "You've been living off of caffeine and sugar?!"
"Pffft, no." Frankie lies.
"With all do respect Miss Prynne, that is a down right lie!" Tony exclaims. The ghosts break into laughter.
Steve laughs a little too, not seeming so afraid of the ghosts any longer.
"Well, now that I know Frankie is living alone– sorta– I'm basically gonna be moving in," Steve laughs, "my family wouldn't even notice. Dads always gone."
Frankie smiles.
"I wouldn't mind you moving in," she admits, "I like having you around."
Steve's cheeks hurt from how large he's smiling.
"Then, that's that."
Slowly, the ghosts begin to fade away. Steve becomes a little confused until he notices Frankie's drained state. She looks derived of energy.
"You tired, Fran?" Steve questions softly, frowning at the fact that Frankie's face is still covered in blood. Tiredly, the girl nods her head. He recalls her saying that as soon as her energy was out, he wouldn't be able to see the ghosts anymore.
At least he knew they were there now.
"Lets wash your face, then we'll go to sleep okay?" Steve offers.
Frankie nods.
He proceeds to pick up her light body, and carry her to the kitchen. Once they enter the area, he flicks the lights on and sits her on the counter. Frankie attempts to stay awake as she leans against the cabinet.
Steve takes a rag and runs it under water. He rings it out until it is only damp.
Then, he brings it to the small girl's face and begins to wipe the blood away. It takes awhile for it to all come off. He still feels angry at whatever asshole did this to her.
Frankie inevitably falls asleep against the cabinet.
Once all the blood is off her face, he lifts her off the counter and carries her to the room.
Carefully, he tucks the girl into her bed.
As he goes to leave, her hand stops him. She tugs on the sleeve of his shirt.
"Don't leave me," she begs quietly.
Steve almost cries.
He finally feels needed. Finally, someone doesn't want him to go. Finally, someone asks him to stay.
Most importantly though:
Finally, he has a family.
You're damn right he stays.
Meanwhile, Dustin Henderson discovers something new.
