chapter 57

VIVIAN'S FINGERNAILS DUG INTO THE PALMS OF HER HANDS, WHICH WERE TAPED BEHIND HER BACK IN AN AWKWARD POSITION,

All she could think of was getting back to the prison. Getting back to Liam.

But she didn't know how. How the hell was she going to escape?

And she needed to find Glenn and Maggie before she did.

The door opened and Merle walked in. Vivian stared up at him, just watching him. And he was watching back.

He sat down across from her, a long table between them, and took his blade attachment off his metal stub, "Look, girly, I don't wanna hurt ya."

"Then don't." She spat.

"I have orders to follow." Merle replied, "Information to get. My brother to find."

"And I'm assuming you're going to do whatever it is you have to do to get the information out of me. Therefore, I can't trust you. If I tell you where my people are, how do I know you're not going to kill them?" Vivian questioned him,

"We just wanna... communicate with them. You know, survivor's bond and all." Merle waved his metal stump,

"Do whatever you want. I'm not telling you shit."

He grinned and Vivian got shivers down her back, "Whatever I want, huh?"

Marcella was walking the streets, unaware of her former group members who were only buildings away, when Andrea came up to her, a grin on her face,

"Missed you last night."

She shrugged, "Was more worried about Michonne being out there alone. Did I miss much?"

Andrea sighed, "I'm starting to think Michonne was right about this place. They had some WWE match between Merle and Martinez, with walkers added in."

What the fuck? Is that all they could come up with entertainment around here?

"Anybody get bit?"

"No. It was just some sick entertainment." The blonde shook her head, "These people don't understand how dangerous the walkers are."

"Why would they? They've been protected by these walls for months." Marcie replied,

"I'm going to help out. I want to be on the wall, helping protect the community." Andrea told her,

Marcie's mind immediately went back to the farm, and when she shot Daryl in the head. But she didn't say anything. Andrea had grown in the past couple of months. She trusted her on the wall, more than the other people in this town,

"Do you think she's okay out there?" Marcie asked, glancing towards the wall,

Andrea nodded, "Yeah... she's strong. She's better off on her own."

"I hope so." Marcie muttered. She still felt guilty for leaving her behind. But she had her parents to think of.

Vivian spat out blood and it splattered on the concrete near Merle's boots, "You deserved to be left on that roof." She growled,

He had left quite the mark on her. After fifteen minutes of questions with no answers, Vivian ended up with a split lip and multiple bruises littered across her torso and face.

He sent another punch to her abdomen and she let out another pained grunt as she doubled over in the chair. Merle then grabbed her neck and forced her to look up at him "Where's my brother?"

"He's better off without you. We all are."

There was some truth to her words. Daryl had changed for the better since Merle disappeared. But she was also purposely trying to piss him off. Probably wasn't the wisest idea considering her predicament.

Merle let go over her neck, "Maybe I'll go interrogate the Chinese kid. Or his pretty girl. I'll convince them to tell me what I need to know... let the Governor deal with ya."

Vivian spat blood onto his face and he wiped it off slowly before staring down at her. She could see the frustration and anger in his eyes. And that's all she got to see before he slapped her so hard she fell unconscious.

Rick stared at the dark skinned woman, who was now sitting at one of the tables in the common room. Daryl backed him up while Hershel followed him to give her medical attention,

But how did she knew where the prison was? And why did she have formula?

"We can tend to that wound for you, give you a little food and water, and then send you on your way." He stated, walking up to the woman, with a hand on his gun, "But you're gonna have to tell us how you found us and why you were carrying formula."

She stared up at him, "The supplies were dropped by a young Asian guy with two pretty girls."

That caught their attention. No doubt it was Glenn, Maggie, and Vivian she was talking about.

"What happened?"

"Were they attacked?" Hershel added,

The woman looked over at the older man, "They were taken."

Rick moved to catch her eye again, "Taken? By who?" He questioned,

"By the same son of a bitch who shot me." She spat,

"Hey, these are our people. You tell us what happened now!" Rick reached out and put pressure on her wound,

She let out a cry of pain and raised a finger, "Don't you ever touch me again!"

Daryl raised his crossbow and aimed it at her, "You'd better start talking. You're gonna have a much bigger problem than a gunshot wound."

"Find 'em yourself." She spat at Daryl,

She clearly wasn't the scared type. And Rick knew he was going to have to take a different approach. He stepped between the woman and Daryl, forcing him to lower his crossbow,

"You came here for a reason." Rick stated,

She avoided his eyes, "There's a town. Woodbury. About 75 survivors. I think they were taken there."

"A whole town?"

"It's run by this guy who calls himself the Governor... pretty boy, charming, Jim Jones type." She informed them,

"He got muscle?" Daryl asked from behind Rick,

"Paramilitary wannabes." She answered, "They have armed sentries on every wall."

"You know a way in?"

The woman nodded, "The place is secure from walkers, but we could slip our way through."

Rick and Daryl shared a look before Rick turned to her again, "How'd you know how to get here?"

"They mentioned a prison, said which direction it was in, that it was a straight shot."

Rick nodded, staring at her before pointing to the man on crutches next to him, "This is Hershel, the father of the girl who was taken. He'll take care of that." He told her before walking off with Daryl to inform the group of what had happened,

When Vivian woke up, she was alone. She ached everywhere, but it was worth it knowing she hadn't given up any information.

She could hear grunts coming from the next room over. And Merle's voice.

He had moved onto his next victim.

"Don't tell him anything, Glenn!" Vivian called out, her ribs aching as she took a deep breath,

The door opened and Vivian gulped nervously. A tall man stepped in, with an aura of authority. He clearly was one to give orders, not follow them.

He was their leader. The Governor.

Vivian kept quiet and watched the man as he walked in, heading towards the chair on the other side of the table. He observed her for a moment before giving her a charming smile, "I'm sorry for him. Merle can be a bit... aggressive with his questioning techniques."

She didn't respond, just continued to stare. His smile faltered slightly, "Look, I don't want to hurt you. Neither did Merle. And we don't want to hurt your people."

Vivian seriously doubted that.

"They call me the Governor." He sat down and linked his fingers, resting his elbows on the table, but she still didn't speak. He narrowed his eyes, "We'll take you and your friends back to your people, explain this was all just a misunderstanding."

"My hands are duct taped together. Merle came in and beat me for information. How am I misunderstanding that?" Vivian spoke for the first time since he entered the room,

He stared at her, and she saw the shift in his eyes, "Your people are dangerous. Handcuffed my man to a roof, forced him to amputate his own hand. You think I'm going to leave you unrestrained?"

"Why would I lead you to my group? If you think we're so dangerous, why do you want to know where they are?" Vivian questioned him, her eyes narrowing,

The Governor sighed and stood from his chair, "Guess we'll do this the hard way." Vivian tensed as he walked behind her. "Stand up." Vivian didn't move and he grabbed her ponytail, forcing her to her feet, "I said stand up." He growled in her ear,

"Don't touch me." Vivian tried to shake him off and he pushed her into the wall.

Before she could have the chance to recover, he grabbed her neck and pinned her to the cold cement. But Vivian couldn't fight him off, her hands were still taped behind her back.

"Where are they?" His hands put more pressure on her windpipe, "Where is your group?!"

She couldn't tell him. She couldn't lead this man to Liam. To Lori's baby.

She had to protect them.

Vivian mustered up the courage and spat in his face. The Governor let go of her neck to wipe the saliva away and she sucked in a breath of air, "Fuck you."

She saw an evil gleam in his eyes and he took out a knife from his belt. Vivian thought he was going to stab her, but instead ran the knife through her shirt, tearing it to shreds and the fabric fell from her torso.

Vivian refused to let the tears fall from her eyes,

His gaze racked over her torso before grabbing her neck again and forcing her to step forward. Her breath hitched, not knowing what he was going to do next.

But she had to face the fact she might not be going home to Liam. He might be left an orphan after all.

The Governor moved his hand to her ponytail, wrapping it around his palm before pushing on her head, shoving her torso down onto the table, and she winced as her head bounced off the metal, "How many?"

"Go fuck yourself." Vivian growled,

He ripped the back of her sports bra, cutting her back up in the process. She let the tears fall as she felt the Governor press himself up against her ass.

"You're making this really difficult on yourself." He grumbled as he reached for the button of her jeans.

Vivian began to shake uncontrollably as he pulled her jeans down and heard the clinking of his belt. She silently apologised to Jillian and Trevor. To Liam. To Lori. She was never going to fulfil her promises to them.
