chapter 145

VIVIAN WATCHED AS RICK WALKED DOWN THE FRONT STEPS, A SENSE OF LIGHTNESS IN THE AIR.

They killed Negan. They did it.

But to Vivian, it didn't feel good. She thinks something else is going on. Kind of like the tide going out before a tsunami comes through.

With a sigh, she sat down on the porch swing and the younger kids came out to play. She watched as Judith and Liam drawing on pieces of paper and munching on cheerios.

"Hey." Vivian looked up to see Glenn approaching,

"There's daddy-to-be." Vivian smiled, "How's the wife?"

"She's fine." He answered, walking up the porch steps and his eyes wandered over to the younger kids,

"She still won't say what happened?" Vivian asked him,

He shook his head, "Apparently Marcie's not talking either." Glenn sat down next to her, "Did you hear about her freak out?"

Vivian hummed, "Yeah, Olivia is a gossip. She ran out after Daryl and Rosita a few hours ago. She'll be okay, she's been through worse." She glanced over at her friend, who was still staring intently at the children in front of them, "What's going on Glenn?"

"I don't know how to change a diaper. Or how to swaddle a baby or what to do when they have colic and the spit up... I should've paid more attention with Judith but now-"

"Woah, woah, slow down." Vivian smiled at him, "Glenn, most parents don't know what they're doing until the baby comes."

"Did you? I mean... I know Judith and Liam aren't yours, but how did you do it?" He asked her,

Vivian smiled and leaned back, "I was five years old when Finn came around. My parents saw how great I was with him and that's when they started leaving for days at a time. I was eight when Isaac popped out. And by then, I was an expert in diaper changes and applying rash cream. Then they started leaving for weeks at a time. My dad only came around when he wanted money, leaving when loan sharks started sniffing. Mom would only come home to pop out another kid. I'm not even sure any of my siblings are fully related to me. I was forced to be the mom at a young age. But anyways, what I'm saying is, if I could do it at five, you can do it." She squeezed Glenn's arm, "You're not alone here. It takes a village, and we're all here for the both of you."

He nodded for a moment, lost in thought, "Maggie and I have been talking, and there's something we want to ask you." Glenn shifted to face her, and Vivian's eyebrows raised,

"We've seen you raising all these kids, and even though they're not yours, you love them unconditionally. And if anything happens to Maggie and I-"

"Glenn." She interrupted sharply, "Nothing's gonna happen to you or Maggie. You're gonna grow old together surrounded by your kids and grandkids..."

"Please." Glenn whispered to her, "We've both seen the sudden horrors that happen in this world. If something happens, we want you to take care of our child. We want you to be the godmother. Just say yes, please."

Vivian nodded, "Okay." Tears filled her eyes, remember this question being asked many years ago, before the world went to shit, and how that ended up for her, "Okay, if, not when, only if, something happens to you and Maggie, I will take care of your child."

"Thank you."

She reached forward and wrapped her arms around him, "Nothing is going to happen. I'll make sure of it."

They spent the next hour chatting about lighter subjects, until nap time for the kids. Glenn helped her put Judith into her crib before heading back to have lunch with Maggie.

She hated to think that anything would happen to the Rhee's.

Debbie and Carl went out onto the porch to read one of the comic books Marcie brought them while Vivian made food for all the kids. She went outside to bring the teenagers some sandwiches while waiting for the younger ones to wake up.

"Hey." Rick greeted as he stepped into the kitchen, rounding the island and squeezing her waist, "Where is everybody?"

"Marcie, Daryl, Denise, and Rosita went out on a run, Abraham and Eugene went to find more bullets or weapons, Maggie and Glenn are at their place, teenagers are outside, Sasha is on gate duty, Judith and Liam are upstairs, Finn is building some traps to set up outside the walls." Vivian listed as she put some of the fruit they got from Hilltop on a plate for the younger kids.

"Traps? The Saviours are taken care of." Rick stated,

"Just in case." Vivian gave him a comforting smile, "You can never be too careful nowadays."

Rick left to go speak with Finn while Vivian woke the younger kids to give them their food. Once they were done, they stepped outside to play in the sun.

Once winter hits, Vivian knew the cold was gonna hit harder than it did in Georgia.

With a sigh, Vivian sat down on the porch steps, basking in the sun. She smiled, glancing around at all the kids,

This was a good life. One Vivian was happy to live. No more Chicago, no Georgia.

This was their home.

Vivian closed her eyes, leaning back and soaking in the rays. She truly felt at peace.

"Debbie!"
