Big News

A/N :This was supposed to be the start of a request for the reader and Steve to have a kid together but I decided to separate those two parts, they could still be linked together. This could be a part 1 to that request but it doesn't have to be. I pondered over whether to post this or not but decided to do it anyway. I'll try to get the actual request done asap, it's not finished but I've started to write it. It's been so long since I've posted a Steve imagine and this is finished so I felt like I needed to post it. Hope you like it!

Warning: pregnancy(??) and a bit of fluff, I guess

After meeting with an old friend of yours who had just had a baby, you and your husband of a couple of years were now at home, sitting on the couch of your apartment. You were both practically biting your own tongues, thinking whether or not to be the one starting the conversation you both so desperately wanted to have.

You breathed in before letting the air out with a sigh. You looked at Steve who was glancing right back at you. His hand found yours that was resting on your thigh and you laced your fingers with his. Smiling down at your intertwined hands, you felt Steve's lips making contact with your cheek. He placed a gentle kiss on your skin before pulling back. You turned to look at him and finally decided to be the one to start the conversation.

"I want to talk to you about something," you said and Steve nodded, telling you to go on. "Meeting with my friend, her spouse and their newborn got me thinking about kids and I was just wondering how you feel about having kids."

Steve smiled, bringing your hand up to his lips to kiss your knuckles. "I'd love to have kids with you."

You smiled, happy from his answer. "Well, what do you think about the timing?" You asked, making sure to actually talk it through before making any final decisions. "Do you think we're ready?"

"I think our relationship is very stable. Financially we're doing well and yes, having kids will be expensive but we'll be able to handle that."

"But are you ready?" You asked while gently running your fingers through his soft blonde hair. "Because I think I am. Seeing you interacting with the newborn just made it sure for me. I want kids. I'm ready to have kids. I just want to make sure you are too."

Steve nodded and as he was about to answer, you interrupted him.

"And I'm willing to wait if you need time. I love you so much, Steve. I just want us both to be ready so we won't have any regrets in the future."

Steve smiled and placed his free hand on the back of your neck. "I'm ready," he said gently, still smiling.

You quickly pulled him in for a kiss. Both of your smiles were kept on your lips while your mouths molded against one another. You pulled back, only to have Steve kissing the side of your neck. Your arms wrapped around his shoulders while he continued his gentle actions on your skin. He started pushing you backwards on the couch and you laughed.

"You wanna start right now?"

Steve let out an affirmative hum and pressed his lips on yours again.

"Oh, okay," you muttered against his lips before returning the kiss.

"I love you so much, Y/N," he said as he settled between your legs, kissing you with passion.

"I love you too, Steve."

It took a few months and many attempts of conceiving a child until you were finally looking down at a positive pregnancy test with a few more in the trash. You had to make sure you were indeed pregnant.

You were sat on the toilet, smiling down at the test. You wanted to rush out of the room and run into Steve's arms to tell him the good news but sadly he wasn't home. He was on a mission and had been for a few weeks.

You hadn't really even thought about the possibility of being pregnant since he had left. You had just pushed all that aside and planning on continuing to do so until Steve came back but you had started to feel sick in the mornings and your breasts felt tender and fuller. You had also noticed that your period was late which then led to you going out to get some pregnancy tests that you had now done.

You looked at your phone that you had placed next to the sink. You thought whether you should call Steve and tell him that you were expecting but you decided against it. He should focus on the mission, you couldn't risk him getting distracted. He had promised to call you that night so at least you'd hear from him. You still couldn't tell him over the phone. You'd tell him when he got home.

As if he had read your mind from miles and miles away, your phone started ringing, the name Steve flashing on the screen. You quickly picked up the phone and answered the call. "Hey, babe," you said, standing up and throwing the last pregnancy test in the trash.

"Hi, doll," you heard his sweet voice which immediately made the smile on your face brighter and bigger. "How are you?"

"I'm great," you said, exiting the bathroom and flopping down on the couch in the living room. "But I really miss you," you muttered as you took one of the decorative pillows on the couch and placed it on your lap, running your fingers over the material.

"I miss you too," he admitted, sighing. "I'll be home in a few days, though."

"Really?" You asked, hopeful.

"Yeah! If everything goes according to plan, that is..."

"Can't wait for you to come home."

"Me neither," you could practically hear the smile in his voice. "It'll be just the two of us again. I miss that."

"Well, we won't be alone for long," you chuckled and looked down at your stomach only for your eyes to widen. You hoped he didn't figure out you were currently pregnant. You didn't want him to know yet.

"That's true," he chuckled as well. "We need to start working on the nursery when I get home."

"Should I have everything ready when you get here?" You laughed. "We're in no hurry, Steve..." That was kind of a lie. You would have to start working on it as soon as possible.

"I just think we should be prepared."

You rolled your eyes. "Steve, your Cap is showing," you teased. "But I get what you mean. And who knows? Maybe it'll be fun?"

"Maybe," he sighed happily. "So, what did you do today?"

You then went on to tell him what you had done during the day, leaving out the pregnancy tests and you asked him how the mission was going. You two then continued to talk until you no longer had anything to talk about. You said your goodbyes and I love yous before ending the call and going on with your day.

Steve was finally coming home. It hadn't been only a couple of days like he had said, it took another week and a half. You had noticed that he sounded quite grumpy and tired whenever the two of you had talked on the phone. You were just happy that he was coming back home.

You were finishing preparing dinner, smiling in success as you had the table set for you two. You were looking forward to having dinner with him and tell him the big news.

You heard the door opening and you walked out of the kitchen, seeing Steve walking in. "Steve!" You said excitedly and walked over to him, throwing your arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. His hands hesitantly placed themselves on your back and you heard him sigh. You pulled back, looking at him in confusion. "What's wrong?" You asked, seeing the worry lines on his forehead and dark circles under his eyes. He looked exhausted.

"We failed the mission," he said simply, shaking his head as his gaze fell to the floor.

"Oh, honey, I'm sorry to hear that," you said, placing your hands on his cheeks and making him look at you. "Well, at least you're home now, you can relax."

Steve sighed again, nodding but a frown was still evident on his face.

"I made dinner, why don't we go in the kitchen. I have some big news that I—"

"Y/N, listen... Thank you but all I want to do is just take a long, hot shower and get some sleep," he said and began walking towards the bedroom.

You frowned, reaching over to grab his wrist and turn him around. "Come on, Steve, let's just have dinner. I have something important to tell you."

"Can't it wait?" He asked, annoyed.

"No."

Steve huffed, running a hand through his hair. "I just need to be alone and relax and—"

"Is this all about the mission going wrong?" You asked, placing your hands on your hips. "Because that's definitely not my fault, Steve. I don't understand why you're giving me the cold shoulder."

"The cold shoulder?" Steve asked, voice rising. "I just want to be alone for a while."

"I understand that but I really need to talk to you."

"Let's talk tomorrow."

"No," you said firmly. "I've been keeping this to myself for so long and I've been waiting for you to come home. I've been feeling so lonely and—" You were interrupted by a sob coming from your mouth.

Steve's brows furrowed in concern as the angered look on his face disappeared.

"I don't know why I'm crying," you said, wiping the skin under your eyes to get rid of the tears. "I just really need to talk to you, Steve."

"What is it?" He asked gently, taking a step towards you and placing his hands on your shoulders. "Tell me, darling."

You sniffled, taking one of his hands in yours and playing with his fingers. You stared down at your hands as a small smile appeared on your face. "I'm pregnant," you said with a small chuckle. "And I know you're annoyed and tired, want to be alone but I needed to tell you. I've been keeping it in for so long and I'm sorry but—"

Suddenly you heard small sniffles coming from Steve. You instantly lifted your head up to look at him. Tears were falling down his face and you reached out to wipe them away.

"Steve?"

He didn't say anything, he just wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his head in your neck. You felt his tears on your skin and wrapped your arms around him, running your hand up and down his back soothingly.

"Happy tears?" You asked, feeling Steve nodding against your neck. You chuckled, wrapping your arms tighter around him. "I've known for a few weeks," you told him, knowing he would be asking questions if he wasn't busy crying. "I've gone to an ultrasound already. I wanted to wait for you but you took so long to get home."

"I would have come sooner if I had known," Steve said, pulling his head up but still keeping his arms around you.

"I know," you said quietly, smiling. "That's why I didn't tell you. You needed to focus on the mission."

Steve nodded in agreement, wiping away his tears quickly and taking a deep breath. "We're having a baby," he said, chuckling to himself. A smile was finally making its way to his face. "We're having a baby," he said much louder, seeming happier.

"Yeah, we are. You're gonna be a daddy," you said with a giggle, leaning up to place a kiss on his jaw.

"And you're going to be a mommy," he smiled wider, pulling you in for a hug again.

After pulling away he placed a hand on your growing stomach. "Boy or girl?"

You shrugged. "Don't know yet. We still need to wait for a while."

Steve nodded, running his hands up and down your sides as a small smile played on his lips. He sighed happily, looking into your eyes with nothing but fondness behind them. "I love you," he said almost dreamily.

"I love you, too."

"So much," he continued, resting his forehead on yours.

You giggled. "The feeling is mutual."

Steve leaned in to close the remaining distance between you two and kissed your lips softly. You weaved your fingers through his hair, smiling into the kiss. You had missed the taste of his lips, the touch of his hands and now that he was finally there with you again, you didn't want to let go.

"So..." You began as you pulled away from the kiss. "Can we go eat now? I'm really hungry."

He nodded, smiling. "Anything for mommy," he said before pecking your lips and leading you to the kitchen.
