Chapter 2
"Dear Stella of the orphan house, Little Winging, Great Britain, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and wizardry. We will be awaiting your attendance."
Stella jerked back at the talking letter.
Once it finished speaking, she looked up to the owl and asked it,"I'm a witch?"
Obviously she wasn't expecting a reply from the bird, but it began to change. The brown feathers on its small body melted away to robes. The owl became taller and his beak separated into a pointy nose and thin mouth.
"Indeed you are,"the man gave a grin.
............................................................
The days that had happened in the past week were a shock to Stella.
The young man who was the owl was called Cornelius Fudge, and he helped Stella gather her school supplies and ticket. He also explained how to board the platform.
While shopping, Cornelius told Stella that she could purchase a pet from the shop on Diagon Alley with the extra change from school supplies.
Stella walked into the shop and gawked at the scene laid before her.
Hundreds of different animals scurried, crawled, and even flew around the store.
"Hello dearie and welcome to Madame Marcie's Pet Emporium," a plump little witch called from a wall lined with beetle cages.
Stella looked about the shop and one animal caught her eye: a minuscule bat fluttering around the store.
"How much for the little bat?" Stella asked the witch.
The woman took one look at the bat and said," She's free if you can catch her."
Stella looked around the store and saw a package labeled with a picture of a bat.
She grabbed the already ripped open bag and took out one of the small dried out fruits and held it in the palm of her hand.
The small animal's nostrils flared and came closer to Stella. In one fluid motion, Stella threw up the fig to the bat. The creature caught the fig and devoured it. It then flew down and latched onto Stella's shoulder.
"Hi there, cutie," Stella crooned at the bat.
That sound caught the attention of the store clerk. When she saw the bat on the girl's shoulder, she smiled and said,"Well, I keep my deals. She's yours. Take the bat food too, I don't have any use for it now."
Stella thanked the owner and went back out to the street where Mr.Fudge was waiting.
His eyes widened at the strange pet and he quickly covered up the shock with a smile,"Well who's this friend of yours?"
"Her name is Reeta."
