People really don't seem to like me. I mean, I don't blame them, really. I'm the kind of person who tries her best to blend into the background. I'm pretty good at it, actually- Maybe a little too good. I guess I'm lucky in that regard, some people wish they could blend into the background as easily. Take my friend Tristan Sheppard, for example. His intelligence and his brother's popularity make it pretty hard to avoid crowds, and a lot of people really don't like that a 'nerd' like him can have so much popularity that interferes with the typical school hierarchy, which means he more then often gets a good smack-down.
Then there is Chelsey Martin, the complete opposite, who thrives on the attention, and often tries to get me to come into the spotlight- the one place I will actively avoid no matter the situation, and at any cost necessary. Chelsey is gorgeous, and she's in with all those popular girls who get hit on by the soccer team and are on the arm of a different guy every week. She just seems to naturally fit in, she's so bubbly and fun and just loves her life. She's that one, typical high-school girl who drinks and parties until the sun comes up... And yet there is something so different about her. She's sweet and thoughtful and she'll be there for you.
Then there is just me. A normal girl with long, muddy brown hair and pale skin and the same dirty brown eyes. Average Grades, average looks, average height- everything about me is so boringly average that it's actually quite sickening. Why they are still both friends with me confuses me, especially when both of them are so far up in social class that they could easily step on me if they so wished. Heck, Tristan could probably built a better friend if he tried hard enough.
I felt the pen in my hand scratch at the fibres of my notebook as I starred vacantly off into the distance. I was paying attention to a single thing that was happening around me, or the undoubtedly delightful conversation that was occurring between the two screaming people I called by best friends that were sat either side of me... I couldn't take my eyes off that beautiful, godly creature that stood across the room from me, with those chiseling abs and jawline made of steel...
Jesse Sheppard.
