Chapter 4
Skylor's POV
Whoa. Did Kai Smith just try to hit on me? And was I temporarily attracted to him? Ew. I sprint back to my dorm and shut and lock the door behind me, before sinking to the floor, head in hands.
Then it hit me; I rejected him. Was I his first rejection? If so, I'll admit, that's a huge deal, and I plan to hold that over his head, if I ever encounter him again. Kai's pretty much known to sway everyone's hearts.
Except mine. Sorta. Maybe a little?
Gah, I need to go to sleep! Pushing the thought and the memory far back into my brain, I change into some loose clothing, loosely braiding my hair, and kicking my socks off, before flopping back onto my bed, pulling the sheets over my head. I had to do something. What was I supposed to do?
Right, laundry. I'll just get it tomorrow, it's fine. I snagged the dryer that was right beside the door, I can just grab it and go. Plus, it's just my bra in there. I can just hide it in my bag.
My phone screen automatically switches on when I get a notification, and this time it's from Instagram.

My eyelids begin to droop as I hover my thumb over the Accept and Decline button. Closing my eyes, I lazily tap the screen, before repeatedly tapping it again as I fumble to find the power button, pressing down on it before setting my phone aside.
Kai's POV
Zane Julien is my roommate, and my literal saviour. My grades weren't the best but thanks to him, I was getting back on track. I had gone from Ds and Cs up to Bs and As. I mean, if you ask me, that's improvement.
As I enter the dorm, he's on his laptop, scripting away. He has an apprenticeship with Cyrus Borg, of Borg Industries, and has kept his head down ever since. I kick my shoes off, and plop down on my wheelie chair, spinning around wildly whilst checking my phone. I had been tagged in a bunch of posts on Instagram so I went through, liking all of them, leaving occasional comments.
Skylor intrigues me. Something about her just leaves me wanting more. I click onto the search bar and type up her name, and a result pops up:

Her account is private, and I request to follow her, drumming my fingers impatiently on the table.
"You seem nervous, Kai. Is everything okay?"
"Hmm?"
Zane stares at me, not taking his eyes off. I quickly nod, "Yeah, no, I'm-I'm great, thanks."

I scroll through her profile. She doesn't seem to post much; some photos of nature, selfies, and a few random inspirational quotes. Just to be even, I give a like on her recent post too, before relaxing, resting my arms behind my head as I lean back in my seat. That moment is short-lived as I get a text from Lloyd.
How is it going? Have u won her over yet?
🙄🙄 baby steps, lloyd. stop stressing

Setting my alarm, I open up my laptop, wincing as my eyes adjust to the bright light, as I click onto the university website. The laundry room in our university is a little...weird. See, you have to pre-book a washing machine and a tumble dryer (if needed) on the website, and select a time slot. As unusual as it may be, it's proven quite useful.
Most of the washing machines and dryers were full, as people tend to do their laundry overnight so they can grab and go the next day. I opt for the machines beside the doorway, for easier access. Time to go.
I stand up and stretch my arms out, before leaning over and grabbing the hamper basket filled with my clothes. It was like 50 Shades of Red, but with clothing. I stifle a yawn as I reach for the handle, "Gotta do some laundry, Zane. I'll be back soon."
Skylor's POV
My phone screen switches on as an email from the website pops up, saying I had to take out any laundry left in the dryer because someone had just booked the facilities and were on their way down- crap!
Swinging both legs out of the bed, I pull on a pair of trainers that were laying around, before grabbing my keys and sprinting towards the door. Forget the phone, it'll just be here.
The elevator was all the way down at the end of the corridor. Breaking into a run, I hightail it down the corridor, just as someone entered the small room, the doors closing behind them, "Wait!" I scream, not caring if anyone heard. I had never run so fast in my life, not even at sporting events. And I barely try on those. I was so close, I could just make it! "Hold the doors!"
It was too late, however. They didn't hear me, and the doors shut.
"Going down to the ground floor. Please mind the gap."
I couldn't wait that long! "Son of a- GAH!" I yell in frustration as I kick the doors, before bending down to catch my breath, hands on my knees.
Luck just wasn't on my side today.
I turn left and jog down that corridor, pushing open the door, and sprinting downstairs, keys jingling in hand. There were so many flights of stairs to go past.
"Screw this!" I jump onto the railing and slide down, like how I used to do as a kid, jumping off as I reached the bottom. I sprint down the last flight, jumping through the ground before quickly unlocking and opening the door. I feel like I just did parkour, instead of running all the way downstairs like a madwoman.
The laundry room wasn't far. I could make it! Breathing heavily, I pushed open the wooden door, and to my horror, someone was already there, bent over, checking to see the washer was empty. I burst through the doors, just as he opened the dryer, "Don't open it!"
Too late. At this point, I'm not too surprised. I must have broken a mirror or walked under a ladder recently. I scream internally as I see it was Kai, who'd booked the washer and dryer, and my face is practically a tomato as he slowly turns around, holding up the lacy bra, "I believe this is yours?"
