Against Regulations- McCoy
This is dedicated to Skyler_Psych124 for her awesome conversations and her kindness to forgive my uncensored comments xD
"Oh come on Bones, it's not going to be all that bad. I paired you up with (Y/n)! I know how much you have wanted that to happen." Kirk slapped Bones on the shoulder as he left the transporter room.
Bones grunted and crossed his arms, getting a feel for the alien planet's civilian garb. "Well, when you put it that way I suppose I should be jumping for joy."
You practically skipped into the transporter room, punching Bones on the arm a couple times, a big grin visible on your face. "Can you believe it? My first away mission since that stupid Xindi distress signal scam. Though Captain promised that this is just a check up on their colonization checkpoints." You started making sure your clothing was on right and that Bones was presentable. "Plus he said I'll be safe with you. How sweet is that?"
Bones rolled his eyes but not before he caught your smirk as he let you mess with his shirt and jacket. "The only reason you are coming along is so our medical checkups go twice as fast. Nothing exactly sweet about being beamed into a million little pieces."
You laugh and pat his cheek. "I can hold your hand if you want me too."
"Not if you want to be fused together."
"I don't see anything wrong with that."
"I do. I like to keep things where they are, thank you very much."
You laugh loudly, causing Bones to smile just a bit. Scotty soon bounded in, apologizing for being late. Something about Jaylah blasting music throughout the engine room and having to chase her down to turn it off.
You and Bones shared a look as the two of you stepped onto the beaming pad. "That must have been so inconvenient, especially since you had to run BEHIND her and all." You try your best to keep a straight face, but Bones snickered next to you causing you to smack him on the leg.
"Ay, it was a wee bit frustrating but it sure was a laugh for the crew. Not to mention a great view of, hey now! I'll have you know I only have the highest of respect for the Lass."
"Is that what the kids are calling it these days, respect?" Bones asked, a smirk pulling at his lips and an eyebrow raised.
"OI!"
"Beam us down Scotty." You laugh lightly, enjoying the fact that Bones was playing along.
"Right. You're going to need to walk a few minutes to get there. Remember your personas and your goal. Regulations (Y/n)!"
Before you could retort back, you were no longer looking at the inside of the Enterprise but the rock wall of a cavern. You look to your right and notice Bones already looking at you. You give him a small smile and he reciprocates. You punch him lightly on the arm and nod in the direction of the growing town.
"This way sir, we have patients to see to. I would hate for them to need to wait any longer on your grouchy old self." You wink as you lead the way to the new civilization, making sure to keep your advanced medical tools hidden.
Leonard shook his head slightly but didn't get rid on his growing smile yet. The captain was right; he had been dying to go on an away mission with you since the time you got hurt by the Xindi in their lame attempt at commandeering the Enterprise. You got hurt and he promised himself that he will make sure that didn't happen again. Though you knew how to take care of yourself, you also being security officer previous to your medical officer position now, he has suddenly grown protective of you. You have been stationed on the Enterprise for almost six months now, but the two of you have gotten along so well that it has felt a lot longer than that.
He watched your form traverse the rocky landscape as he slowly picked his way across, keeping an eye out for any trouble though he knew you were doing the same. Old habits die hard. You turned to look back and smiled at your superior officer as he came into step with you, his shoulder lightly bumping yours. You bump back and snicker, not taking note of one of your medical instruments falling to the ground. Bones notices and picks it up handing it back to you.
"Regulations, (Y/n), didn't you hear Scotty." His voice sounded stern but you heard a light hint of sarcasm.
"Oh right, I would hate to be the sole reason these people suddenly became advanced and then died."
You reached out and grabbed the tool, your hand brushing against his. Your breath caught and your middle felt warm. You had hoped you had gotten over your crush on your superior officer after a couple of months on the ship, but it seems like your body had other plans. You look into his eyes for a moment, surprised to see him looking down at you with a look so close to worry that you almost reached up to smooth away the worry lines that appeared between his eyebrows.
You were about to say something but a shout made the two of you turn in the direction of the town. A couple small kids came running over, shouting something. The two of you looked at each other then started to close the gap to the children.
"You came! We were so worried you would have forgotten about us!" One of the older kids ran up to you and hugged your middle.
You laughed and hugged them back. You looked over at Bones and your heart fluttered. He kneeled down so he was looking at them at their level as they surrounded him. They soon started to take your hands and pull you to the town. Bones looked over at you and smiled, taking one of your hands and squeezing it. Oh yeah, it's going to be hard to calm your heart now.

You sat down with a grunt, exhausted from the day's work. Only a few more Banders, as they are called before you and Bones had to head back to the Enterprise. Surprisingly they were all quite healthy. All except a poor girl and her family. They have a type of disease that, if not for the prime directive, the Enterprise has a means of being able to cure it. It has been eating you up all day. Bones took a swig of a drink he was offered as he watched you rub your face and look back at the house with the ill family. He knew exactly what was going on in your head, he was having the same thoughts. But the both of you knew that nothing could be done. In time they will all get infected and the immune will survive and create a stronger generation of Banders. Bones knew you well enough that you would try to slip them something, even if it was to ease their pain just for a while.
The leader of the town came up and thanked the two of you again for traveling so far to tend to his people. Knowing that there were "other towns who sought our assistance" that he will give us provisions and release us from our jobs. Leonard nodded and accepted the gifts, looking to you to thank them but you weren't there.
His heart jumped to his throat. Looking around he spotted a hidden hypo and a few vials missing. As discreetly and kindly as he could, Leonard rushed to the house with the sick family, swearing that you are the only one that makes him pray as hard as he was now. He spotted a shadow moving between two houses, noticing your slim figure. He rushed over and wrapped his arms around you, making sure to cover your mouth as to not draw attention. You struggled as he shuffled the two of you to a secluded part of the town. You yanked out of his grasp, folding your arms and turning your back on him.
"Are you deaf, woman?! Damn Jim for thinking that bringing you along was a good idea." Bones ran a hand through his hair, letting out a breath of frustration.
"I just want to help them." Your voice was weak and your shoulders shook.
Letting out a breath, Bones stepped up behind you and wrapped his arms more gently around you as you turn in his arms to lean against his chest. You shouldn't be so emotional, but thinking of the pain that family was in about made you lose it. Bones stroked your hair and kissed the top of your head.
"I know. I was worried your compassionate heart would take over. I was stupid to think you would just forget about it. But we have regulations to uphold."
"You're one to talk." You pull away slightly and smirk up at him.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"If you aren't too careful I would begin to suspect you "respect" me, superior officer. But last I checked that was against Starfleet regulations."
Leonard blinked down at you but couldn't hide the growing blush that started to dust his cheeks. You laughed lightly and pulled out of his arms. Truth be told, if you looked at him any longer you might do something rash. You looked down at the hypo and vials in your hands. AS if you hadn't done something rash already. You sighed as you tucked them in a secret pocket in your pants. Looking up, you take a deep breath as you tried not to think about the unfortunate girl and her family. If only things were different. You turned back around and looked at your superior officer. Yes, if only things were different.
Bones watched as you trudged back to the hut where your supplies were being held. He followed close behind you to make sure you wouldn't run off and to keep you close. He loved the feeling of you in his arms, the warmth you gave off and the smell of your light flowery perfume. Leonard hated seeing you so upset but there wasn't much that could be done. After things were backed up and goodbyes were made to the towns-people, the two of you set off, leaving with more than you came with. You looked over your shoulder one last time at the house but before your legs took you back there a warm hand grasped yours firmly. You looked over at bones. He smiled at you and nodded in the direction of where the two of you were going to be picked up.
"You meant well. Come on darlin', you did good."
"Compliments from Doctor McCoy?" You reached up with your free hand and mocked checking his temperature. "You must be coming down with something."
Bones smiled and gave your hand a gentle squeeze. "You might be right about that."
After making it to the spot and right before Bones pulled out the communicator to contact Scotty, you rested your hand on his arm to stop him.
"Please don't tell the Captain about my outburst. I want to be able to go on more missions. Hopefully with you."
Bones shrugged. "Like you said, I don't exactly follow regulations myself."
And with that his lips claimed yours. Your eyes widened with shock but soon closed in content. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you closer. You smiled into the kiss as you ran your hands through his hair.
Bones pulled away and the two of you looked at each other smiling like crazy as you tried to catch your breath.
"Beam us up Scotty."
You were suddenly back on the Enterprise, but your mind was still on the planet, in Leonard's arms.
"Well, I would have to be blind to not see that the two of you respect each other very much, as the kids call it these days." Scotty laughed as he looked between the two of you.
You and Bones looked at each other blushing and smiling. He took your hand and the two of you left the transporter room happier than when you entered. Bones sure wouldn't mind another away mission with you.
Hope that was to your liking dear! If you guys haven't guessed already, I like to make happy stories. I am going to keep it that way. There is too much sadness going on in the world. That being said I am going to make a Romeo and Juliet AU with one of our boys and have it end happily. Thank you to whoever gave me that idea, I literally cannot remember who did to save my life. Ooops xD Anyways, you guys know what to do! Live long and prosper ;)
