Chapter Six

Edited by: thirtxn

I woke up with heavy eyelids. I looked outside my window and was shocked - the sky was still dark. "Had I slept through an entire day?" I wondered aloud.

A maid came in with a silver tray and cheerfully greeted me. "Good morning Princess Skyler! Did you sleep alright?"

"Wait? It's morning? But it's so dark out," I pointed out, confusion masking my tone.

"It's always dark in the Night Kingdom. Just like it's always light in the Day kingdom." The maid said, frowning at the last sentence. "I brought you some biscuits, bacon, eggs and star berry juice," she continued, dismissing our conversation as she went back what she came in for.

"Star berry, what?"

"Star berry juice. Our kingdoms most common fruit," she explained, pointing at a purple star on the tray. It looked like star fruit, but purple.

"Sorry I'm asking you all these questions," I apologized, rubbing my head. This was the first time I was in a new place so I couldn't help with the question asking. "I just don't remember any of this."

"It's no big deal! I will help you with anything. I'm just so happy you're home," the maid exclaimed. "I used to be the maid that took care of you. You were just an angel. I was looking forward to when you were older. But then all of that stuff happened and..." she trailed off.

"Thanks," I said gratefully, pulling her out of her thoughts as a silence enveloped us. She visibly jumped before smiling at me again.

"My name is Hope."

"Well, Hope, I hope we get to talk more. I quite enjoy your company."

"Thank you miss. Now let's get you ready," Hope said, ushering me out of bed.

Hope put me into a silver gown after I finished my morning routine, with long sleeves down to my wrists. A white bow sat on the side with a tiny train in the back. It was simple but elegant at the same time. "Now, let's get your hair done," Hope suggested after I was done looking at myself, pulling me over to a mirror. She put my hair up into a ballerina bun and finished it off with a tiny, delicate tiara with a small star on the top.

Awhile later, I was on my own.

I decided to take myself on a tour of the place I once lived in. I eventually got lost and bored, so I tried to find my way back to my room. I came upon a room that looked a lot like a school room, but with only two desks. I stepped into the classroom and noticed a woman standing in the corner. She had chin length purple hair and black rimmed glasses. A white dress hugged her body and fell to her ankles. "Hello, Princess Skyler," she greeted, walking over to me.

"Hello..." I trailed off, not knowing the woman's name. She laughed.

"My name is Mrs. Carson, or Aunt Justice."

"You're my aunt?" I asked.

"And your teacher," Aunt Justice said, chuckling.

"So when do I start school?" I asked eagerly.

"Not for awhile. It's the middle of summer, and you and your sister get the summer off," she explained.

"Oh," I said, feeling stupid. "Do you know where my parents are?" I felt awkward saying the words. All my life I had only had one parent.

"They're in the ballroom. Not far from here, you'll find it easily," Aunt Justice said, and I nodded before leaving.

I took a right from the classroom and entered a gigantic ball room. Gold carvings and design, crawled up the walls and ceilings. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, illuminating the whole room. I walked over to my father who was standing with a woman. I tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around – I couldn't stop my gasp. She looked exactly like me; the same chocolate brown hair, eyes, jaw structure and nose. She could be my twin, or my older sister, but I knew she was my mother. "Oh! Skyler! You look so beautiful." My mother said with tears of joy in her eyes.

"Thanks mom," I said, giving her an awkward hug. "So what are you guys doing here?"

"Planning your arrival home ball," my father said, turning around.

"Cool!" I exclaimed.

"All the Princes from other planets will be there," mother said, her eyes sparkling.

"I don't mean to be rude, but I don't want to date an alien."

"What is an alien? These young men are human," my father said, giving me a puzzled look.

"Never mind," I brushed it off quickly, continuing. "And why does it matter anyway? It's not like I'm getting married any time soon."

My father looked at me with a blank look on his face and it made me nervous. Finally, he said, "what are you talking about? Your wedding is next week."
