Chapter 5

Victoria's POV

Before I knew it, it was the night of the engagement party. The last few days were spent between work and wedding planning. Our wedding planner, Tracy White, wasn't to thrilled that we wanted the wedding at the end of four weeks, and she claimed that she wouldn't have enough time to plan everything. But Jaydan quickly got her to change her mind by suggesting that we will find a wedding planner that is capable of planning a wedding within 4 weeks.

Amelia and the wedding planner already booked an appointment with the two of us tomorrow. Amelia was going to take my measurement for the wedding dress and Jaydan's suit, which she insisted on making herself, while the planner will go through some of the wedding stuff with us.

I stood in the middle of the Stewarts' ballroom as I thanked people who occasionnely passed me by and congratulated me on my engagement. Jaydan disappeared a few moments back when a business associated approached him to discuss something.

My parents were also here greeting and talking to people and I was glad I could share this night with people I loved.

I was busy talking to Hattie Ackroyd, one of my mother's clients, when Alec approached us.

"Good evening, ladies,"  he greeted with a smile, Alec being Alec. He winked at Hattie and I had to hold in my laughter at her reddening face.

"If you will excuse me," she quickly said before she dashed off. Hattie was a very shy woman.

"Alec!" I said as I slapped his shoulder," you know how shy she is."

"What? She is easy on the eye and I couldn't help myself. But anyway enough of my lady problems, how is the bride to be?" Alec asked as he wiggled his eyebrows.

"Excited but overwhelmed. I know I must be used to these kind of events, but I don't think I can get used to it," I said honestly. I loved Jaydan, and I would gladly attend these events for his sake, but I still felt a little overwhelmed with all these people. I was a mere detective and these people around me were all rolling in money. Even Alec was a successful business man who drove the latest BMW.

"Well you deserve to enjoy this, I'm glad for you. Both of you. So when is this extravagant event?" Alec asked as he took a sip of his grapetizer.

"Well at the end of the month," I said. Jaydan and I both felt that we both waited long enough and that we are ready to get married.

"Wow, that's fast," Alec said with a low whistle.

"Jaydan and I both see no reason to wait. So you have about three and a half weeks to find a plus one."

"That won't be necessary, haven't you seen how the ladies stare at me. I could find a girl in no time," he said with a smirk.

"Well, so where is this string of girls who can't keep their hands off you?" I teased.

"Who can't keep their hands of who?" I heard Jaydan's voice in my ear before I felt his hands snake around my waist.

"The girls can't keep their hands off me! But if you would excuse me I have to find a plus one for your wedding," Alec said with a wink before he disappeared into the crowd.

"I'm sorry," Jaydan whispered before he kissed my cheek.

I turned around to face him with a perplexed look on my face.

"For what?" I asked.

"For being the worst fiancé in the world!" He said.

"And why dear sir, are you the worst fiancé in the world?" I asked.

"Because here we are at our engagement party and I spend the most of the night talking about business and leaving you here all on your own, I'm sorry. Can you ever forgive me?" He asked.

I pretended to think about it before I exclaimed, "I know."

"Anything, your wish is my command."

"How about a dance?" I asked. He nodded before he bowed to me.

"Milady, may I have this dance?" He asked as he held out his hand towards me.

"Yes kind sir, you may," I said as I placed my hand in his and he led me to the dance floor. Everyone applauded and I couldn't help the blush, I hated being the centre of attention. The music commenced and Jaydan and I started to dance to the music.

"I love this song," I said. It was a song both Jaydan and I listened too millions of times and loved.

"Why? Because it reminds you of me?" Jaydan asked.

"Well aren't you modest. But yes, it does and it is a great song," I replied.

"So how are you dealing with all of this? I know this might be all overwhelming," he said.

"Jay, if I said that I didn't feel a bit overwhelmed with all this, I would be lying. But I love you, and just spending it with you makes it less overwhelming. I just feel," I started to say, but then I thought better of it, Jaydan wouldn't have asked me to marry him if he didn't want me to,"nevermind."

"Vic, what is it?" He asked with concern filling his eyes. I avoided his eyes, trying get rid of my betraying thoughts.

Jaydan pulled my face towards him with his forefinger and thumb so that I could face him.

"Vic?"

"It's just...I can't help but feel like I don't belong here. I'm no one rich and special and..." My eyes momentarily flitted to one of the young women who has been giving me death glares all night. They weren't to happy that I got Jaydan all for myself. And I paled in comparison to them. They were perfect and I was just normal me.

Jaydan followed my eyes and spotted the women who glared at me but quickly pasted smiles on when they saw Jaydan look at them. Jaydan gave me a look.

"Is it because of them? Should I kick them out? Because I will." He stated furiously, they clearly changed their expressions to slow, because Jaydan clearly saw the looks they gave me. He was about to go to them but I quickly stopped him before we continued dancing.

"No Jay, it's our night and I shouldn't have let other people spoil it for me," I said with a smile.

Jaydan took my face between his hand and traced circles on my cheeks with his thumbs as he stared deeply into my eyes.

"Vic, don't ever sell yourself short and forget what they think about you. They are all spoilt rich girls, who are only dying from jealousy. They have nothing on you, you are perfect and do you want to know a secret?" He whispered. I nodded.

"Do you remember that time when you asked me to take off my mask so that you could see who I really was?" I nodded.

"I told you that I didn't want to tell you my secret identity because I wanted to protect you, but that was only partly true. The other reason I didn't want to tell was because I was scared," he said honestly.

"Why?" I whispered.

"I was scared that when you knew that it was me, that you would never want to see me again. But you didn't turn away from me, you loved me even when you had every reason not to. Victoria, if anyone is unworthy, it is me. You are my heart, the love of my life and no one in the world can change my love for you. So let those girls be jealous because this guy is going nowhere," he said before he pulled me into a passionate kiss.

"Thank you, and I love you to. More than you will ever know," I whispered when we pulled apart.

"Good, because in four weeks time, you're going to be stuck with me for the rest of our lives," he said as he kissed my temple.

"I can't wait," I said with a grin. Jaydan smiled back at me as we continued to sway to the rhythm of the music.

When the song ended another business man approached us. It was a chubby young man with an open face, he had kind eyes and something told me that this man and I would get along greatly. On the man's arm was a young woman, around my age. She had green eyes and beautiful red hair.

"Mr Stewart, Ms Wills. Congratulations on your engagement," the man said as he shook my hand after he shook Jaydan's.

"Thank you, Mr..." Jaydan said.

"Ooh where are my manners? I'm Gregory Harris and this is my lovely wife, Jane," he introduced and you could see how his eyes shone as he introduced his wife. You could see the love he had for her as clear as day.

"Pleasure to meet you, I guess no introduction is necessary on our side, thank you for coming to our engagement party," Jaydan said politely.

"Thank you for having us. I know this is bad timing but I have a bit of business to discuss with you, do you think we can talk a moment or two? I promise not to take to much of your time," he asked and Jaydan turned towards me. I gave a smile and nodded. I knew that this engagement party was partly for business to.

They excused themselves and I was left with Jane.

"You're very lucky," she said and I gave her a questioning look.

"Why do you say that?" I asked curiously.

"You have a man that adores you," she said with a small smile.

"Then I guess we are both lucky in that department," I said as I recalled the way her husband looked at her.

"I guess we are. Will you show me the way to the restroom?" I quickly gave her instructions. She thanked me before she excused herself and left me alone.

"Who is that?" I heard Leila's voice from beside me. I jumped a bit but regained my composure quickly.

"Leila, you came," I said before I grabbed her in a bone crushing hug.

"Of course I did. I won't miss my bestie's  engagement party." She said as she pulled away.

Behind her I could see Tim and Gracie, my heart swelled with happiness. I was grateful for the support my friends gave me.

"Thank you for coming," I said as I hugged Tim and Gracie.

"It's our pleasure, and I'm here to support my partner," Tim said.

"And my best friend, and here is so much free food," Gracie said with a grin.

I laughed at her statement.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her, her small baby bump was just visible.

"I'm fine, and where is the bridegroom to be?" She asked and I quickly scanned the crowds for Jay, who I could not find.

"He is around here somewhere," and just on que Jay stepped through the ballroom door. He caught my eye and I quickly called him over. He greeted Leila and Gracie with hugs before shaking Tim's hand. Jaydan welcomed them like a good host and we fell into easy conversation.

"So how many people do you intend to invite to your wedding?" Gracie asked.

"50."

"300."

I answered just as Jaydan answered we looked at each other.

"I guess there is something we have to discuss with our wedding planner tomorrow," Jaydan said.

"Yeah, we'll sort that out later."

"And when is this fantastic wedding going to take place?" Leila asked.

"In four weeks time," I said with a grin. At least something we agreed on.

"That is fast!" Leila said.

"Why wait?" Jaydan said as he gave me a look.

"Aww you guys are so cute together," Gracie suddenly exclaimed before she burst out in tears.

"I'm so sorry, it must be all the hormones," she said before Tim and Leila sent as an apologetic look before leading Gracie away to calm her down. Once they were away I turned towards Jaydan.

"300 guests, huh?" I asked.

"I know you said you wanted it small, but if I don't invite certain people and leave someone out-"

"They might take it personally, I know. I understand that. I won't say that I love the idea of 300 guests, but I'll grin and bare it for you," I said before I kissed his cheek.

And I will do anything for Jaydan, he was the love of my life and nothing could change that.
