2. TWO HALVES

Eva had to go through a painful recovery process after making up for her misconduct to Ross, a smile not being able to appear on her face when she was informed of her dismissal from the asylum's infirmary. It was so bad to the point where she had to have two nurses assist her back to her room.

Not many of the other patients understood the privileges she had, some weren't even aware of it until they overheard the nurses gossiping about Eva's 'Satan-like' habits.

Instead of having a cold, metal bed frame, Eva had the privilege of having a queen sized bed with a spring form mattress that had a thin white bedsheet, along with a yard of cotton to act as the covers. The only thing her wooden bed had in common with the eerie metal one was they were both bolted to the ground – as per asylum safety. Her room had two bed side stands with a small lamp on one, while the other made room for all the gifts Ross would shower her with (perhaps as a form of payment).

Although she had no windows, being able to urinate and defecate as well as shower in her own personal bathroom was something she'd give her left kidney for. And that left kidney included doing anything Ross wanted.

Though she had no windows as Ross thought she'd be smart enough to escape, she was fortunate to have an ensuite bathroom which was better than having to take a shower in the communal showers, along with being blessed enough to be urinating and defecating in a proper toilet, unlike the others who had to do their business in either the bucket, or a single sink.

Once the girl had arrived to her room, the nurse unlocked her shackles, handcuffs and carefully took off her muzzle – locking the door as Eva limped inside.

She laid on the bed, soaking in the cleanliness of the place, as opposed to the semi-trashed infirmary. The girl was prescribed medication to help soothe the painful sensation of her walls being scraped with a metal hanger, something Ross was insistent on.

Night time had fallen upon Springwater, but that was something very rare to Eva, since she didn't have windows to tell the time. Despite being locked up for three years, her body clock couldn't manage to get a grasp of the time – and right now she presumed it was late afternoon.

Uncommonly, her curious mind became insistent on the idea of finding out about the other half of the asylum, never being told what it was actually used for. Almost everyone she asked had different answers. Some say it's where they dispose of dead patient's body, since nobody gets out of Springwater. Others stated it was the kitchen portion, and the minority who suspected human experiments, of course, we know where they ended up.

The surge of adrenaline rushed through her body when she thought about sneaking out and going over to the other side of the building, but nonetheless, if Eva never acted upon her urges, they would only become much worse.

And so knowing she would probably get slaughtered for it, her curiosity got her out of bed, walking over to the door and crouching down on her knees. The girl rested her ear against the door, wanting to know if any of the staff were around the area. Eva sometimes questioned herself, not knowing if they were purposely being quiet, or if there was actually nobody around.

Eventually, she picked out a bobby pin from her hair, silently praying over it. The girl fiddled with the lock on the door, until she heard the click. She was amazed it had actually worked this time, but she wasn't surprised as she remembered how the shareholders had invested more into paying off the media when it came to the kidnapping for three black women, as opposed to furnishing the interior of the asylum.

"Thank you, Jesus." She muttered to herself, putting the pin back in her thick, jet black hair.

The girl was certainly hesitant, knowing it would be a big risk for not only her but the punishment her body would be subjected to, however, the curiosity began eating away at her brain the more she overthought about it.

It took about two hours until Eva found herself standing in front of a wired fence, a padlocked door just in front of it. She stared at it in confusion, wondering what could be behind the presumably locked door, her gaze shifting to the keypad next to it.

She took out her bobby pin yet again, praying over it a second time before inserting it into the lock on the wired fence, shaking it around a little before finally watching the link separate, catching it in her hands before it had the chance to make a sound by hitting the floor. With her shaky hands, Eva pushed aside the fence, looking at the door with interest.

Her mind came up with various combinations for the keypad, not settling on a single one. A sigh of frustration left her nostrils, biting her lip anxiously in fear that a staff member could quite possibly catch her.

"What could it be?" Eva lowly muttered to herself, hovering her finger over the number '1'.

At the first try, she attempted the pass code of the date Eva had been admitted, thinking he would want to signify the start of their 'relationship'. However, the keypad buzzed, causing the girl to flinch a little. She cursed under her breath, seeing the keypad indicate that she had two tries left.

After a lot of thought, Eva decided to try the date Ross had been given the position of head doctor and surgeon at Springwater, holding her hands in a semi fist, anticipating the confirmation.

The small keypad gave a little 'bleep' sound, shifting the door aside to reveal a rather unkempt corridor, consisting of a long grey carpet which stretched to the other end, decorated with small splatters of dried blood that had started to flake off the fibers.

Her mouth gaped open, not believing the sight in front of her. The once small question in her mind expanded into a million different ones, wondering what this portion of the building was used for.

Hoping to keep a brave face and not be scared off so easily by the horrible conditions, Eva trudged her feet along the carpet, her body not wanting to take another step, but her mind being really curious to explore nonetheless.

Eva stumbled upon an ajar door, furrowing her brows which hid beneath her thick, dark bangs. She tilted her head lightly, subtly peeking into the dimly lit room. Without giving her next decision a second thought, she walked forward, lightly pushing the door open with her right hand.

"Hello?" She quietly called out, only to regret summoning anybody (possibly dangerous) from the dark shadows of the room.

The air felt non-existent. It was smaller than what she was personally used to, causing her to become uncomfortable enough to gulp at the unfamiliar feeling.

Suddenly, she heard light footsteps coming from the outside of this section, causing her hazel eyes to widen and scan around for the knob. Once she found it, Eva was quick to close the door, leaning against it so whoever was checking the experimentation unit wouldn't be able to get inside the room.

It felt like half an hour until she heard the same footsteps walking away from the room she was hiding in, along with the sound of a stretcher squeaking away.

Eva sighed in relief, only to be frozen in place when she felt two large hands place themselves on her shoulders, a chill rushing through her spine.
