"HEY! I'm so glad you came!" relief fills me as my friend finally steps into the bar.
"Sorry, got held up," he removes his jacket sliding into the booth, and motions for a waitress to come over.
His hair is ruffled and clothes wrinkled, he looks totally fucked and I can't help but laugh at his state.
"Oh, that elusive girlfriend of yours didn't wanna let you go?" I wiggle my eyebrows at him.
"No, she's at work," he scoffs.
My face scrunches in dissatisfaction. As far as I knew, Tae had been in a committed relationship for about a year now, but his disheveled state and the way he's eating the waitress with his eyes and flirting with her makes it seem like he's the single bachelor I knew in college.
"I don't think your girl would like that," I say motioning to the waitress who is swaying her hips as she walks away.
"She doesn't have to know. Plus it's just some harmless flirting. I'm not touching the girl, Chim," He says with a roll of his eyes.
"You clearly touched someone," I point to my own neck.
Tae goes to rub his own neck and then looks at the lipstick smeared on his finger. he chuckles and takes a napkin wiping his neck and fingers clean.
"Just a little distraction," he says with a sly grin.
Before I can reply the waitress is back, handing him his drink, once gone we spend the night catching up on what's new with our lives.
"What happened to Tess?" he asks downing the last of his drink.
"She was cheating the whole time, and my dumbass didn't find out till I walked in on her and my boss in the office," I clench my fist remembering the scene of her bent over his desk.
"Such shit. But I mean she was always pretty wild, I'm surprised you got her to settle down for as long as you did," his fingers tap against the glass as he chews on his bottom lip.
"What?" I ask confused.
He hums, before raising his hand and holding up his empty glass to the waitress. My annoyance builds as he sits across from me quietly. When the waitress delivers his drink and slips away I finally lose my patience and slam my hand against the table.
"What are you talking about Taehyung?"
"Chill man I'm just saying before you tired her down she had a reputation as a dorm bunny," Tae shrugs taking a long sip of his drink.
"No she didn't," I protest.
I was with the girl for three years, even if what Tae was saying was true, I couldn't let him talk about her like that. I had loved her, I saw a future with her, and her past doesn't excuse or explain her cheating. I didn't deserve that, I gave her everything I could it just wasn't enough.
"There's no way you didn't know Chim. She was the girl who hooked up with the whole of Kappa Kai sophomore year."
I can feel my anger rising. I love Tae we had a wonderful friendship but the way he addressed things could rub me the wrong way. He was never aggressive or one to start fights but that was more because he just didn't care. Nothing truly mattered it was all just a 'moment' as he would say.
I thought he had changed and grown when he moved in with a girl but as I watch him turn away from me and make eyes at the waitress from across the room again, I realize he still isn't taking anything seriously, and he was brushing off my breakup with Tess as just a 'moment'.
"She just wasn't the one," I sigh deciding it's not worth trying to explain why the break was big deal.
My comment catches his attention and he turns to face me again with a knowing look. "And who is? That girl that you were pining after freshman and sophomore year? Is that why you have finally come home?" He asks with an annoying smirk.
At the mention of Aviva, my heart starts to race. I'm supposed to meet up with her and Kookie by the end of the week and I'm nervous as hell. I knew I ruined everything the second she blocked me.
But she was here, living her life back home happily, she had a steady boyfriend, was best friends with Kookie and there was nothing I could do about it cause I'm the one who left without telling her my feelings.
So I decided why not enjoy college life and I got swept up in Tae's wild lifestyle. We went to all sorts of parties, traveled, and met lots of girls. Somewhere along the way between the random hookups and hangovers, I forgot my best friend.
I missed my family, I missed the home-cooked meals, I missed having close friends, and most of all I missed her. There was no doubt in my mind that I had ruined any chance of gaining her love, but if I could just have her back as a friend.
There's nothing I wouldn't give to have that chance.
Just as I'm about to open my mouth and answer, Tae's phone lights up Gorgeous💕 appears on the screen.
Tae groans and lazily picking up his phone as he swipes to answer it.
"Hey gorgeous!" he says bright and cheery, voice dripping with honey like a sweet bee.
"No I'm still out with my college roommate and then I have to head back to the studio... I don't think I'll be home tonight," he says with a hint of fake sadness in his voice.
"I know I know, I'll make it up to you gorgeous. Okay get some rest, I love you," my body tenses at his words. He just said it so nonchalantly when it's clear he's not in love with the poor girl.
I can't control my face and know I'm glaring at him. He's no honey bee, he's a wasp and will only end up painfully stinging her.
"Stop with the look man."
"Why not break up with the girl Tae?" I ask seriously.
"Because I love her?" he says but it sounds more like a question.
"Then why the 'distraction'?" I ask making finger quotes.
"It's complicated," he says with a flick of his wrist dismissing my question.
His phone ding's again and it's a new name.
Princess😘
He quickly unlocks his phone and a huge smile takes over his face. He taps out a message back and ticks his phone into his pocket as he stands from the booth.
"Gotta head back to the studio! Text me we will meet up again!" he says tugging on his jacket.
"Tae..." I try and stop him but he turns around annoyed.
"Don't go all good conscience on me, Chim! I've got this handled we will talk another time," he turns and makes his way out of the bar.
I sigh and finish the last of my drink. Tae is my buddy and has never done me wrong but my heart couldn't help but go out to the poor girl waiting for him at home. Maybe I can break through to him and convince him to just end things before she finds out. No one deserves to go through what I did.
