Chapter 4
Chapter 4
"AMOS!" Leia screamed from her tent. "Your Oshawott got in here again!"
"Again?! But he was just with me!" Amos argued angrily as he unzipped the tent opening. Leia was trying to push his Oshawott outside, but it was standing firmly.
"Come out, Oliver!" he instructed his pokemon, pointing out of the tent. The Oshawott growled in frustration and ran out.
"That's a stupid name for a Oshawott." Leia told him.
"No it is! It's better then calling a Snivy Severusa!" Amos snarled.
At this, Leia took off his visor-like hat and threw it outside.
"Go! You are in my territory!" Leia snarled back.
"Territory?! What territory? You've gone crazy!" he snickered.
"My tent! Leave my tent!" she shouted. "And make sure your Oshawott stays out!"
Amos rolled his eyes, but got out quickly. He knew better. His cousin usually won fights like that, but it was usually because it ended with a fist fight. Professor Juniper shouldn't have gave her Snivy. It just gave her more power.
His Oshawott, Oliver, was running in circles around the clearing. It had been three days since Amos, Hugh, and Leia got their first pokemon. The only reason why they weren't in Floccesy Town, was because Leia kept wanting to catch pokemon, but she was unfortunately having no luck.
"Is my sister getting annoying again?" a voice asked.
Amos looked around and saw his other cousin, Hugh, sitting in a tree with his Tepig beside him.
"Oliver must like it in her tent or something 'cause he keeps going in there." he explained. Hugh snorted at the sound of the Oshawott's name.
"I heard, but I agree about his name. It is a bit stupid." His cousin stated with a sly smile.
"No it's not! It's a normal name that people use!" Amos snapped defensively.
"That's just it! It's too normal! Severusa is more unique than Oliver! Otherwise you could have just kept his name, Oshawott." His cousin pointed out.
"And you think keeping the Tepig's name is less normal than changing it?" demanded the younger cousin.
Hugh shrugged. "More or less."
"Well I have something to tell you now." Amos said, lowering his voice a little, marking Hugh lower his head so he could hear. "You are the stupidest, weirdest, guy I know!" he laughed. Hugh jumped down from the branch.
"You crossed the line!" he growled angrily. "Tepig!"
The Tepig squeaked and ran forward to face its opponent.
"Oliver!" Amos yelled.
Oliver was still dancing in circles, but ran up to meet Tepig when his name was called.
"Let's see what you know about battling." Hugh sneered.
Amos ignored him, and pulled out his Pokedex. This was one battle he didn't want to lose. Tepig was a Fire Type, which was weak against Oliver since he was a Water Type.
"Water Gun!" he commanded his pokemon.
Oliver leaned forward, and a stream of water hit Tepig right in the face. Tepig oinked with surprise and shook his head violently. Amos looked at the screen, and it showed that one forth of his health was gone.
"Ignore it! Use Ember!" Hugh told his Tepig.
The pig snorted and fire shot out if it snout. Oliver gasped as it hit him in the chest. It did little effect.
"Tackle!" Amos ordered next.
The Oshawott huffed angrily and body slammed into Tepig's side. Tepig wailed and he tried pushed him away. A little more would do.
Then a green blur pelted into Oliver, and knocked him over. "Leia! Stay out of this!" Hugh shouted at his sister.
"But I wanna battle!" she whined, stomping her foot. Leia must of heard the yells from her tent.
"No! There is no such thing as a three trainer battle!" Hugh hissed angrily.
"Well, then I will invent it." Leia snarled as she walked up to her brother.
"You don't have enough brains. A five year old has a better chance." joked Amos.
"Severusa, Vine Whip!" Leia cried to her pokemon, frustration in her voice.
In a flash, Oliver wailed as one of the Snivy's vines held him upside down by his foot.
"Tepig, Ember!" Hugh yelled.
Tepig growled and shot fire out through his snout. Severusa gasped and her tail caught on fire. She screeched and let Oliver fall to the ground. The Snivy started swinging her vines at Tepig.
"Hey, hey! Quit it!" Hugh snapped furiously.
"No! That is for attacking my Snivy." huffed Leia hotly.
"What about my Oshawott?!" growled Amos angrily.
"Not my fault he is weak to Grass moves!" his younger cousin snapped.
"Let's get her." Hugh said to Amos in a low whisper.
"Yeah!"
They then both leapt onto Leia, who gave a small scream.
"What are you doing?!" she screamed.
"Well, I'm doing my duty as a brother. A brother has to annoy the sister." Hugh said. They all fell to ground, as Tepig, Oliver, and Severusa joined in.
A thud and a yelp then echoed around the clearing. The three of them looked up.
"White?" Leia said curiously.
The trainer from when they received their pokemon, White, was hurriedly getting up from the ground, her face turning red with embarrassment. She seemed to have fallen out of a tree.
"What are you doing here?" Amos asked.
"Well I-I-I," White stammered. "I was sort of passing by, and I-"
"You spied on us?" Hugh asked her.
"N-No, not really, I just, well I wanted to see how you were starting out!" she stuttered.
"We are doing fine, but LEIA thinks she can catch every pokemon she sees." Amos teased as Leia glared and stuck her tongue out at him.
"How much pokemon do you have?" White asked.
"About one each. We only have the starter pokemon, actually..."
White sighed and pulled a pokeball out of her pocket. "Well, I think that can be mended." she told them.
"What? How?" Leia asked as she stood up. But White was already making a whistling sound. Confused, Amos looked around.
Then a rustling movement came from one of the bushes nearby. "What's that?" Hugh asked, sounding a little unsure.
"A Riolu," White replied quietly.
Then a head poked out of the bushes. The Riolu was small and had a curious expression on it's face.
White knelt down and held out her hand. The pokemon came out, sniffing the air.
"How did you call it?" Amos asked, but the trainer ignored him.
A low growl escaped Riolu's throat. White also gave a small snarling noise. It was almost like White was speaking to it. Amos and Hugh exchanged nervous looks.
Finally, White stood up.
"Riolu says he will be willing to join you if you want." White told Leia as the young rookie beamed.
"I would love to!" she said happily.
"But, you will have to fight him." White continued. Severusa whimpered at this.
"Ok! Severusa!" Leia cried to her partner.
The Snivy rolled her eyes and ran in front of Riolu. Riolu barked and swung his palm against Severusa's cheek. She yelped and leapt back.
"That was Force Palm. Riolu is a Fighting Type." White told Leia, who nodded.
"Vine Whip!" Leia ordered next.
Severusa screeched and vines rose from behind her. Then the vines stretched forward, and started scratching at Riolu's face. The pokemon winced and put its paws over it's face.
Amos moved over to White. "How do you know all this? The Riolu and stuff?" he asked.
White shrugged. "I have my ways." she said.
"Yeah, but-"
"Um... does anyone have a pokeball or something?" Leia called from the battle.
White ignored Amos once again, and pulled out a pokeball from her coat pocket. She threw it to Leia, and stepped back. Leia smiled and threw the pokeball at Riolu.
It hit him on the head. The quickly pokemon disappeared inside the pokeball as the device opened. It started twitching and made a clicking noise.
"What's happening to it?" Leia asked as Hugh snickered.
"The pokeball is trying to keep the Riolu inside. It depends really. When it makes a loud clicking noise, then you know it was caught. Sometimes the pokemon just decides to let you catch it." explained White
Just as she said this, the pokeball stopped shaking and made a loud click.
"Was that the click?" she asked White again.
Amos swore he heard Hugh mutter, "Stupid kid."
White nodded to Leia. Leia squealed and ran to the pokeball.
"My first pokemon!" she squealed happily as she turned to the older trainer. "Thanks, White!"
Amos watched White nod again and reply, "No problem."
"Can you help me catch one too?" Hugh asked her. White turned to him.
"I thought you were the oldest?" she said, raising her eyebrows.
Hugh kicked a pebble. "I am but I have never caught my own pokemon before." he muttered, blushing slightly.
White shrugged. "I don't mind. But maybe some other time. I have.... things to do." she explained uneasily.
Amos looked at her face. Her expression was blank, but he could see that there was some kind of emotion in her eyes. It was almost like fear. What was she worried about?
He could also tell that she had something she wasn't letting them in on. White seemed to be different. More different than he thought.
