Chapter 7
Jack's POV
My head was pounding. My vision was fuzzy, and my mind was scrambled. It had been like this for three days. I felt like I was being pulled in half. Like I was two different people.
Every once in a while, some thought would surface. Random images or sounds. People I had never met. Things I had never seen before. I saw a hummingbird girl, an old man, a little gold man, and a giant rabbit. I saw a man dressed in a black cloak and monstrous black horses. I saw the Queen laughing and smiling. I saw her sister being solemn and sad.
I pulled myself back into reality. Everything was a blur. There had been a trial where someone accused me of killing the Queen. I had lost. Then I had been dragged out of the castle and to this hill, where gallows had been set up. Now a man dressed in a white robe was reading something about how all life was sacred and how this was for the good of the country.
I didn't kill Queen Elsa. I would never do that. She was too kind and gentle and beautiful...
I pulled myself out of the visions again. The man was finishing up his speech.
"And so, it is with no prejudice that I condemn Jack Frost to be hanged." He finished. The crowd solemnly looked on as someone who looked just like me stepped onto the stage. The only difference was that he had black hair and hazel eyes. He was the one who had pressed the case against me.
"Since our beloved Queen Elsa is no longer with us, I will lead the procedures." He said. He stepped off the stage and walked towards me. I had a guard on either side of me, but in this state I couldn't have escaped if I tried. My twin grabbed my arm and pulled me into the gallows, then tied the noose around my neck. As our eyes met, he smirked. A vision filled my mind of the man in the cloak doing the exact same smirk.
My twin jumped off of the gallows, and I closed my eyes. This was it. The end.
Elsa's POV
I reached the crowd breathlessly.
"Stop! Don't kill him!" I shouted. The crowd turned and stared at me in shock. I pushed my way through until I was standing at the front. Jack was standing on the gallows with a noose around his neck, and guards stood nearby. Pitch was in mortal form again, and he was at the foot of the gallows. He frowned when he saw me.
"Jack Frost is innocent!" I declared. The crowd began to whisper. Pitch's frown deepened. Then he put on a fake smile.
"Elsa! So you managed to escape from the clutches of death where I last saw you!" He said. So he wanted to play that way huh? Two can do that...
"Yes Pitch. It is true that I was in danger, and still am in fact. But the true culprit was not Jack Frost. He actually saved me." I said.
"You met one of his henchmen then. But Jack Frost is not innocent. He also orchestrated the death of your sister, Anna." Pitch explained. My heart plummeted. Please let her be ok. I looked at the people nearby, but no one would meet my eyes. Finally, a maid stepped forward.
"I'm sorry your highness, but it's true. Princess Anna of Arandell is dead." The maid said gently. I couldn't breath. Anna couldn't be dead. Not after everything Jack did to save her. To save me.
"She was poisoned by Jack. So you see, Jack is guilty. Execute him." Pitch commanded. One of the guards reached for the lever to pull away the platform, and I raised a hand. Frost shot from it an froze the lever in place.
"No. Jack didn't kill her. You did, Pitch Black." I said angrily. The crowd gasped. Pitch watched me for a moment
"You're too late. Much too late to save Jack. I'm going to rewrite history Elsa. I'm going to destroy Jack Frost. And then, I'm going to take over the world!" Pitch declared. He grabbed a sword from a nearby guard and threw it.
"No!" I shouted, waving my hand. But I was too slow. Jack gasped, eyes wide, and then crumbles to the floor. I shot frost at Pitch, but he vanished. The crowd had fallen silent by now. One of the guards cut the rope, and I climbed onto the gallows and knelt beside Jack.
"Jack, stay with me. I can't lose you again." I said. His eyes flickered open.
"My memories are so mixed up. I feel like I know you." He said quietly.
"You do Jack. You're a guardian. You protect the world from Pitch. You protected me and my sister." I said. He looked off into the distance.
"I remember that." He said. Then his eyes became unfocused, and he stopped breathing.
"Jack! Jack!" I shouted. He didn't reply. I closed my eyes and began to cry. This was all my fault. Pabbie was right.
I heard people whispering, and I opened my eyes. A beam of white light was shining from the sky above Jack. The light was coming from the full moon. I scrambled backwards as Jack began to change. His hair turned white, and a staff appeared in his hand. At his touch, it became covered with frost. The sword dissolved and the blood vanished, and then light faded. I slowly inched towards Jack.
"Jack?" I asked. His eyes opened. They weren't brown anymore. They were blue. He blinked a couple of times, and then sat up.
"That's the second time I've died." He grumbled.
"Jack!" I exclaimed, pouncing on him. He laughed and hugged me back.
