Chapter Eight

Mara smiled brightly as the wind flew in her hair. Her laugh echoed as she made a sharp turn. "Come on Henry!" She called from behind her. Henry shouted something Mara couldn't understand before she stopped at the local diner.

"God I've missed this" Mara relaxed as Henry stopped his bike next to her. He was breathing heavily as Mara took in the sun. She felt it on her skin, like popping candy wherever the light touched. "How are you okay after that?" Henry asked, looking at Mara as he caught his breath. Mara only shook her head, "You're getting rusty Hen" She nudged his shoulder before they walked into the diner.

"Wait so" Henry swallowed his waffle, "You hacked the DEO" He whispered in shock. Mara smiled and nodded proudly, "Yeah, Winn and I had to shut down the reactor core from blowing up!". Henry let out a little laugh, "That's so cool!" He commented. Mara shrugged, it was nothing at this point. After being kidnapped by Lillian Luthor twice and finding out your foster mom was freaking Supergirl, all the other crazy days seemed like nothing.

Mara reached out for Henry, stopping his ramble that she wasn't paying attention to. Henry looked at his sister confused, "Mar? You okay?" He asked, turning his hand over to hold Mara's. Mara's eyes turned yellow as she kissed her teeth.

"You can't just leave"

Mara turned to Kara, backpack in her hand. "I don't care" Mara scoffed at her, closing her backpack. Kara stood at the door frame, in her super suit as she watched Mara pack. "CADMUS has the alien registry" Kara told Mara once more, "You're on that list Mara, it's not safe for you to leave" She pleaded with the teen.

Mara turned her head to Kara, "I wasn't safe here either! Jeremiah got to me again!" she snapped at Kara as her eyes were a mix of bright yellow and deep violet. "I told you Jeremiah wasn't safe and look what happened!" Mara cried out. Kara walked over to her slowly, "Mara, please just stay until we stop him" She asked her as tears pooled in her eyes.

"The group home is full of alien kids, Ms Cordial is an alien. Someone has to warn them, to protect them" Mara told her, her voice softer. Kara tried to say something but no words came out. What could she say, that she'd protect them and every other alien in the country too? Even she knew that was impossible. "Ms Cordial raised me, those kids are my family...I can't just abandon them to keep myself safe" Mara sighed.

She looked at Kara with light blue eyes, "Henry is an alien, he needs me too" She added as she played with the friendship bracelet on her hand. Kara walked over to Mara, placing her hands on your shoulders. "You don't have to forgive just..." Kara gently squeezed Mara's shoulders, "Promise me you'll be safe and you'll call Alex or J'onn if Cadmus come" She fought back the tears.

Mara nodded, "I promise" She told her. Kara smiled softly, pushing some of her hair back behind her ear, "You can tell Henry...about me being Supergirl, I know he is the closest thing you have to a brother and I know you can trust him" She added much to Mara's surprise. "Are you sure?" She asked her. Kara nodded, "Now go, Eliza won't wait forever" She composed herself. Mara nodded before grabbing her gear bag and walking to the door.

"Bye Kara" She gave her a small smile but her eyes gave her away. Kara smiled, "Bye Mara"

"Kara's...Supergirl" Mara told him, quiet enough for no one in the bare diner to hear her. Henry stared at his sister with wide eyes. "Ok I did not expect that bombshell when you told me you were coming home" He sat back. Mara got stuck on that word. Home.

She was home, right? She grew up in the group home, there's a wall dedicated to her growth and many awards and Ms Cordial kept her room even though she was staying with Eliza for the time being. Eliza had a room for her, and so did Kara.

"Yeah, it's good to be home"

~~~
Mara smiled as Eliza came into the kitchen. "Hi Eliza" She smiled as the older woman kissed her head. Henry smiled, "Morning Doc" He waved at her. Eliza had opened up the home to them after she found out Henry was basically her big brother (he loves those six months of seniority). They remind her so much of Alex and Kara.
"How was your morning, kids?" Eliza asked as she poured some coffee. "You should see Mara, I swear she eats more than the senior stoners" Henry joked lightly. Mara gave him a hard nudge, "Shut up, you'd eat an entire birthday cake and dinner if Ms Cordial gave you the chance" She shot back lightly. Eliza shook her head at their bickering.
"Henry, any chance I could speak to Mara before you too go to the group home?" She asked Henry softly. Henry nodded before leaving the two and getting the bikes ready to go. Mara was confused by Eliza's request. "Everything okay Eliza?" She asked her softly.
Eliza smiled sitting next to her, "I just want to make sure you're okay...after the attack at the DEO" She spoke carefully. Mara slumped in her chair, "It's not your fault, you guys just wanted to be happy Jeremiah was alive and back with you" She reminded her. Eliza was like this the first two days since they got back to Midvale. Blaming herself for Jeremiah's actions and his part in Mara's kidnapping.
"I'm fine Eliza, promise" Mara smiled softly. Eliza sighed, "It's not just me, Kara is worried about you, everyone in the city is. With the abductions...Mara, it's getting worse" Eliza looked at Mara worried. Mara's eyes slowly turned dark orange, "Kara called you? She wants me to go back". Eliza kissed her teeth and nodded, "She's worried about you Mara" Eliza repeated like a broken record. "She didn't seem worried keeping her secret" Mara commented lightly, playing with the bracelet on her wrist. Eliza tapped her hand, "Hey" She dragged out with her eyebrow raised.
"Why not tell me then?" Mara circled back to Kara's worrying. Eliza somehow raised her eyebrow further, "Right" Mara bit her lip.
Mara had been dodging Kara's calls and texts all week. She knew Kara meant well, Mara just wasn't ready to actually talk to her yet. "If I leave, who'll protect the home? Tell Kara I'm fine" Mara told her. Eliza seemed to accept her defeat as Mara stood up. "I'll be back for dinner, call if you need anything" Mara smiled weakly at the doctor.
Eliza nodded, patting her arm gently. "Be safe, both of you".
~~~

"Cora! Stop running with the knife!"

Mara was quick to take the knife from the seven year old and crossed her arms, "I'm gone for a few weeks and you decided to become a little menace?" She pouted Cora. The little girl looked at Mara with a sheepish smile, "Come on, you know the drill" Mara gave her a gentle stare. Cora nodded and turned around, "Sorry Ms Cordial" She apologised as she hugged the older woman.

Once Cora left the kitchen, Mara stood next to Ms Cordial as she placed the knife on the countertop. "Have I told you how much I've missed you?" Ms Cordial smiled softly. Mara snickered, "About four times a day" She rolled her eyes loosely before grabbing the made sandwiches and began cutting them.

Ms Cordial gave her a side glance, Mara feeling her gaze. "If you wanna ask me something go ahead" Mara opened the can of worms. "Why are you here Mara?" Ms Cordial asked her, hand on her hip as she stopped her current actions. "You already know about CADMUS taking the registry" Mara whispered so the younger kids wouldn't hear her.

It was Ms Cordial's turn to roll her eyes, "Mara, I know you didn't come home for that reason" She scoffed half-heartedly. There was that word again. Home. Mara had been hearing it all week about how she was home in Midvale, Eliza telling her that Kara wants her home and Mon-El constantly calling to ask her when she's coming home.

She only sighed and shook her head, "Can we just...not talk about it" She whispered before Cora came back in the room. Mara noticed her face was red and she was catching her breath. She quickly walked over and crouched down to her level, "Cora, what's wrong" Mara asked her.

Before Cora could answer, screams filled the halls outside. Mara picked Cora up as Ms Cordial used her powers to seal the door. "It's CADMUS, Mara get Cora out of here and call J'onn" Ms Cordial ordered Mara as she held Cora in her arms. "What about you?" Mara asked as the voices of Lillian's men. Ms Cordial gave Mara a crazed look, "Mara they want you most of all now GO! She yelled as they tried to break down the door that was being shielded by her powers.

Mara ran out the back door, Cora in her arms as she ran into the woods. Cora was crying as they reached a small little cabin. It belonged to Ms Cordial's grandfather but she mainly used it as storage for beds and clothes for new arrivals. "It's okay, don't cry sweetie" Mara shushed her silently. Cora did her best, doing a breathing exercise the Ms Cordial taught everyone.

Mara wiped her face softly, "Remember how Supergirl saved me from the bad guys?" Mara tried to smile but her voice gave her away. Cora nodded as she hiccupped her tears. "Well I can call her and her friends to come help us, but I need to make sure that the bad guys won't find you" Mara explained, opening up the small cubby hole under the floorboards. She gently placed Cora in there, grabbing some bottled water and biscuits.

She opened her phone, pressing the call button as fast as she could. "It's CADMUS, you have to come now!" She hissed.

'Mara, calm down. How many are there?'

J'onn seemed so calm compared to Mara's panic. "I don't know, I'm hiding with one of the kids. J'onn can you reach us telepathically?" She asked hearing Cora's muffled cries.

'I can...Mara they're looking for you'

Mara bit her lip, " I don't care, you need to send people out for the ones who weren't taken and calm Cora down. She's an alien...she's just a kid" Mara told him. J'onn hummed on the other line. After a few seconds Cora's cries began to vanish and the orders of men were echoing outside.

"They won't stop till they find me J'onn" Mara felt her body tense for a moment.

'Mara stay put, if anything happens...just don't move'

Easy for him to say, Henry was taken and she could feel it. "Tell Kara and Mon-El I'm sorry...but I can't stay here" Mara told him before hanging up the call. She closed the cabin doors gently, listening to the men looking for her. She ran away from the cabin, knowing J'onn knew where Cora was.

She made it to the house, keeping quiet as she entered through the kitchen. She noticed the food and knives scattered across the countertop and floor. The door was broken, Ms Cordial's ring on the floor. Mara picked it up before using the back stairs.

She had found a group of kids, she told them to get to the cabin and stay quiet as people were coming to get them. The older kids listened before ushering the smaller ones out. Mara crouched behind the corner near the main stairs and listened out.

No sign of Lillian or Jeremiah but Hank Henshaw was searching for her. He was muttering something that Mara didn't want to decipher. She used her heat vision to shoot a vase that was near him. "Show yourself Kryptonian!" He shouted, shoot his own laser beam near her general direction.

Mara shot another one before running across the hall. She knew that they would grab her, but she had to do her best to stall until J'onn got here. Mara grabbed the door to a room when she felt a pinch in her arm. She immediately jabbed her elbow back hearing someone grunt. She ran to the side, more CADMUS agents following her until they had her concerned at the railing.

"Nowhere to run girlie" One sneered at her. Mara looked behind her and back at them. It wasn't her shittiest idea...yet. "Actually, I don't need to run" Mara shrugged before jumping over the railing and falling to the floor.

~~~
"You idiot" was the first thing Mara heard. Her head felt like someone was pounding a wooden door right next to her. She opened her eyes only to be met with the scowl on Henry's face. He has his arms crossed as Mara sat up, groaning at the aches in her body. "Where's...Where's Ms-" Mara began coughing harshly, Henry quick to pat her back.
"Easy sis, your veins were glowing green when they brought you to us" Henry explained before Mara looked at her hand. Blood splattered, it must have been Kryptonite in the needle that pricked her. "Mara!" Henry exclaimed, seeing the blood. Mara stood up and grabbed his shoulders, "Henry, breathe. We can not freak out" Mara told him, her eyes a vivid yellow. Henry nodded and took a deep breath.
"They took Ms Cordial, she must be with the other adults. There's so many kids sis" Henry turned to the giant group of kids who had huddled into small groups. Mara smiled weakly at them, "We're gonna be okay, Supergirl is gonna find us and stop CADMUS" She attempted to reassure them.
Some of the younger kids smiled at her, some sort of hope to keep them from panicking. But the older kids looked at Mara worried. It reminded her of Cora's face when she closed the cubby hole. "Cora, is she here?" Mara asked in a panic. Henry shook his head, "No, she must have escaped" He answered her. Mara felt relieved, that means J'onn got there in time.
Mara took Henry's arm and dragged him closer to the bars keeping them in the room. Henry furrowed his eyebrows at her. "I called J'onn, the DEO is coming, we just gotta keep calm" Mara told him.
"Well if it isn't my daughter's favourite stray"
Mara gritted her teeth at Lillian's voice, she turned to face the woman, her eyes a dark violet. "Oh great it's the universe's most psycho mother and Luthor! Lucky me" Mara sneered cheekily. Henry had to hold back his laugh while Lillian glared at Mara. " Guards, take Ms Zorl and Mr Brookes to the main deck" Lillian mused as the guards grabbed Mara first.
"Stay away from my sister you homophobic has been" Henry snapped as he pulled back the guards arm. He scoffed at Henry before Mara stood in between them. "No need for force Lillian, we won't fight" She looked over the guard's shoulder. Lillian took a moment, seeing Mara's eyes shift to a mix of yellow and dark orange. " Fine but if you two even think..." Lillian held up a fresh syringe of liquid Kryptonite and a strange lighter.
The duo nodded before following Lillian out of the cell. Mara looked back for a moment seeing the fear in the other kids' eyes. "Don't be scared" She smiled at them.
~~~

Mara and Henry followed Lillian and her men to an observation deck filled with computers. Mara looked around, her eyes landing on Jeremiah standing near one of the computers. "You!" She shouted at him. Jeremiah didn't seem phased by her, simply turning around to face Mara and Henry.

"Mara, did you need to shout?" Jeremiah scolded her. Mara glared at him, "Did you need to betray your wife and daughters?" She crossed her arms as her eyes glowed purple. Jeremiah only glared at her. Mara pursed her lips at him. Henry let out a cough, "And this is?" He pointed at Jeremiah. "Kara and Alex's psycho father" Mara answered him calmly.

Henry made the 'o' face, "Evil grandpa...we've seen worse" He joked lightly. Mara rolled her eyes, "So what's the big plan? Mass murder?" Mara asked him. Lillian chuckled from behind her, "I could only wish" She smiled evilly, she turned the teens to face a ship bigger than they've ever seen. Mara recognised it, "That's a Hoshin frigate" She turned to Lillian and Jeremiah. "You're sending us back...that's the compromise to mass murder" Mara clicked together. Lillian's smile grew, "We're sending them back, you two have special value" She walked over to them.

Mara and Henry looked at each other, he looked at her eyes and remembered what she once told him. 'Dark yellow is when I'm brave... so look out for when I'm being stupid'. Mara's eyes were the darkest yellow he had ever seen.

Mara struck first, grabbing the arm of the guard behind them and throwing him forward at Jeremiah. Henry kicked Lillian in the stomach before Hank Henshaw grabbed his arm. "Leave my brother alone!" Mara screamed as she blasted Hank Henshaw back. Henry looked stunned as Mara took a breath.

"Come on!" Mara grabbed him and ran towards a door. They kept running, hearts pounding in their ears. "I hear someone!" Mara hissed before they hit something and stumbled backwards. Mara heard a gun cock and opened her eyes ready to blast.

"Alex?"

Mara felt her entire body relax as she looked at Alex normally. "Mara...Henry" Alex gasped seeing the teens. Mara ran to Alex, hugging her middle tightly. "I knew it...I knew J'onn would find us" She smiled as Alex hugged her back. Alex looked down at her, trying not to cry. "Mara...Sweetie J'onn doesn't know I'm here" She admitted softly, beckoning Henry to stay close to them.

She pulled away from Alex with gray eyes, "What about Kara?" Mara asked her. Alex shook her head, "For now, no one's coming" Alex told her. Mara nodded before looking back the way they came. "Lillian and your dad are that way, Alex, their plans for the other aliens..." Mara bit her lips. Alex was about to ask for more information, a hoard of gunmen came from the direction Mara and Henry did.

Instinctually, Mara and Henry hid behind Alex as she raised her gun. "Hold your fire!" Jeremiah called out, "She's with me" He told the gunmen. Jeremiah walked over to his daughter, seeing as Mara clutched her jacket and pressed her body closer to Alex.

~~~
"You shouldn't have come after me, Alex" He scolded her harshly, "You could have been killed" He added as they all walked to the same loading deck Mara and Henry had just escaped from. Alex looked around her eyes landing the space ship. "What the hell is that?" Alex asked him. Mara looked at him, wondering if he would tell her the truth. "It's a Hoshin frigate, the best in the Kazark fleet" Jeremiah answered with the first bit of truthfulness Mara had ever seen.
"As soon as it breaches atmosphere, it's gonna jump to lightspeed and go to Takron-Galtos. They'll find passage home from there" he explained to Alex. His daughter looked at him in disbelief. "Lillian is sending them back?" Alex asked him in horror, turning her head to Mara and Henry who nodded. "It was my idea" Jeremiah corrected. Alex took a step back from her father, "I don't understand"
"Lillian was going to kill them all" Jeremiah expressed with more seriousness. Alex looked at him in disbelief, "You are forcibly deporting them!" She shot back at him. "I mean, some of them have escaped famine and poverty and genocide" She was in shock, "Those kids at the group home? Most of them were raised from birth here, they don't know their native language or what planet they're from!" Alex added to her point.
"At least this way, they have a chance" Jeremiah tried to excuse his plan. "It was all a lie" Alex breathed out, Jeremiah tried to speak to explain but Alex wouldn't let him. "No, everything you told me in the woods" Alex fought back the sobs trying to escape her throat, "You said that you were working for Cadmus for me" She looked at her father with the same anger Mara did. "And I am" Jeremiah pleaded with her gently.
He sighed, "From the moment Cadmus took me prisoner they told me they were gonna kill you and Kara unless I did what they said" He admitted to Alex, "I made my choice. Protect my girls at all costs" Jeremiah justified as if what he was doing was sacrificing a few hours to do paperwork not kill aliens who were like his daughter.
"How could you think that we would want you to hurt others to protect us?" Alex questioned her father desperately. Jeremiah only shook his head, "There are some things that you will never understand until you're a parent" He shrugged. Alex didn't seem content with his answer, "Do you think Mom would understand this?". Jeremiah seemed taken back by the question.
"I can only hope that someday she will"
~~~

Mara and Henry watched as CADMUS got ready to launch the ship. They saw all the aliens that were captured and the other foster kids crying as they were pushed towards the hull of the ship. Mara turned to Jeremiah, "They're hurting them!" She snapped at him with her eyes mixed with violet and light blue. "You're hurting little kids! How can you just stand there?" She questioned him.

Alex kept her as far from Jeremiah as she could, seeing the anger taking over. That didn't stop Mara from verbally assaulting him however. "You're supposed to be a father yet you're watching literal children being treated as prisoners!" She fired at him before Alex gave her a look to shut her up.

"Please, Dad. It's not too late" Alex pleaded with him. "I'm afraid it is, Agent Danvers" Lillian scoffed as she marched onto the deck. Mara and Henry were quick to cling to Alex's personal space in her presence. "Get to your launch stations" She ordered her people. Jeremiah seemed confused at this, "Lillian, what are you doing?" He questioned her.

"Damage control" She answered curtly, "Your other daughter, Kara Danvers, just unleashed an article online, exposing our plan" Lillian furthered as she turned to the Danvers. "We're going to cut our losses" She reached out to grab Mara.

"Hey! Let me go!" Mara shouted at her, pulling back from Lillian's grip. She didn't seemed too bothered with her small defeat. "Launch the ship with the aliens already loaded. We've got a few hundred of them" Lillian continued. She knew that Mara could be used against Supergirl another time. "It's not what I envisioned, but it's a start" Lillian mused as she pressed the final button.

'System locked' a computerised voice spoke. Alex walked past her father, standing only a few inches away from Lillian, "Turn it off. Now!" She ordered her. "You don't threaten me" Lillian told Alex. Alex scoffed lightly a she reached into her jacket pocket, "Lillian, do you really think that I would walk into the lion's den without a whip?" She questioned the Luthor as she brought out a small black detonator.

Lillian was slightly taken back as Alex continued, "I planted Haldorr particle mines all over this facility" Alex smirked at her. "Stop the launch" She ordered Lillian. Lillian scoffed at her, "You're lying" She assumed. "You wanna bet?" Alex questioned her before pressing the button, two or three explosions went off behind the loading deck. Mara jumped, her hand reaching Henry's as her eyes bursted with a bright yellow momentarily.

Alex basked in Lilian and her people's fear, seeing some of the gunmen had put their aim on her and the teens. "The rest of the bombs are on a dead-man switch" She informed Lillian as she kept her hand raised in the air. "I let this go and the entire place lights up" She warned her, holding her hand back to make sure Mara was near her. Kara would kill Alex if anything happened to her daughter.

Lillian glared at Alex, "I won't stop this" She spat. Lillian would die for her cause. "I don't need you to" Alex turned her head to Jeremiah, "Dad, it's time for you to do what you taught your daughters to do" She told him. "Are you with me?" She asked him.

Mara saw the conflict in his eyes, how he looked subtly between his daughter and his captor. Lillian saw this too. "Tamper with my launch, Jeremiah, and I declare war on your whole family" She threatened him. Jeremiah looked back at Alex, "If you let her..." Alex took a deep breath before looking back at Mara, "We're gonna protect each other. Always" Alex nodded at her before looking back at her father.

Lillian called out Jeremiah's name in a dark tone as he made his decision silently. "Dad, make this right" Alex told him. Jeremiah nodded before they both attacked the gunmen surrounding the four of them. Mara and Henry also fought, she used her freeze breath to knock some back while Henry kicked at their shins with all the strength he could let out without breaking their entire leg.

Once everyone of them were on the floor, Lillian was the only one left standing or conscious. "Now stop the launch" Alex told her, holding her reposed gun near her face. Lillian only gave her a coy smile, "I can't" She spoke calmly as if nothing had happened in the last minute. Jeremiah didn't seem to believe her, "Give my daughter the override code" He demanded.

Henry squinted his eyes softly, "There isn't one" He stepped back, looking at the Danvers in shock. "There never was" He told them. Lillian clapped softly, "Clever boy. The only way to stop that ship is to drop that stick" She told them.

Mara tugged on the hem of Alex's jacket, "Do it" She whispered softly, her eyes dark yellow. Henry shook his head lightly, 'You're being an idiot' He smiled at her. Mara looked over at him in shock as Alex let her finger slip of the button. She saw as the second set of explosions let off... the colour of his eyes.

~~~
"Why didn't you tell me!?" Mara shouted at Henry.
The two of them and Alex were running to the ship, hoping to stop the launch from the inside while Jeremiah did the same from the loading dock. "It was kinda hard y'know!" Henry respond back as they ran up the hull. "Besides, I haven't exactly known that long" He added once they stopped to catch their breaths.
Mara's gray eyes looked at him, at least she wasn't angry with him. "How long have you known?" Mara asked him, her voice soft and tender. "Since the attack...I felt your pain, fear...I saw most of it too. Then I saw them and I knew" Henry explained vaguely but Mara knew, she always knew what he meant.
She looked at him in shock just as the ship began to descend. Mara grabbed Henry by his shoulders, "I promise you that we'll talk more but right now we have to stop this ship from sending us all have way through the known universe" Mara told him as Alex shouted for her from far away.
Henry nodded before hugging his little sister, "I'll try to calm down the other aliens, you go help save our asses Mar" He smiled at her. Mara gave his shoulder a light punch, "Don't get yourself killed" She called out as she ran to Alex's side.
"Mara I need you to try stop the launch as I try to get through to Winn" Alex told her as she looked at the controls. Mara nodded before grabbing the chair and began pushing some buttons. "Come on" Mara hissed as she began working more frantically. "It's just like the computers at the DEO, I can do this" She muttered before a huge red light began to flare.
"FUCK!" Mara snapped, hitting the chair. "Mara what happened?" Alex asked her, running to her side. "Lillian must have added a deadlock or something cause now everything is in Kazarkios...Alex I can't read it" Mara told her, trying to fight the tears in her eyes.
"Then we do it manually...Winn!" Alex called out to her phone. The sounds of rushed grunts and typing echoed through the phone along with the blaring alarms from both sides.
'Uh, okay, try toggling the switch next to the control yoke and that should put you back in manual control and then I can take it from there' Winn explained through the phone.
Mara and Alex looked around for the switch. "Alex" Mara called out before doing as Winn said. It wasn't working. Mara tried again and again, her eyes shifting from gray to dark red simultaneously. "Nothing's happening!" Mara grunted. "The ship is still picking up speed" Alex told them, pulling Mara back from the panel.
'We need to slow it down' Mon-El stated the obvious.
Mara looked around, trying to find anything that could help. Kara pasted them, causing the screen to light up red once more. "Alex! Something's happening" Mara shouted, pushing more buttons as Alex relayed the information. Winn said something about locking onto Kara but Mara wasn't really listening. Mara looked up when Kara got blasted.
"KARA!" She screamed, running to the window keeping her inside. Alex ran to her, "It's okay she's fine, see?" She reassured her just as Kara flew back into view. Mara felt her heart tugging, her stomach empty. "Kara" She whispered.
Kara froze the weapons attacking her and flew to the window. She began to push the ship back, her face tightening as she struggled against the firepower of the ship. Alex was encouraging her but all Mara could do was stare at her. Watching as she struggled to save everyone on the ship, Henry, her sister... and Mara.
Kara's screams of pain took her attention, "Kara!" She cried out coming closer to her. Mara had always known better. She knew who to trust and who to stay away from. Yet in this moment, looking into Kara's eyes as she continued to try save them all, knowing better wasn't the same as knowing the right choice.
"I forgive you" Mara cried as she placed her hand in the same spot Kara's was. For a mere moment, Kara's eyes drifted to her before she struggled once more against the ship. "I'm sorry for being angry... I get it you weren't just protecting me from CADMUS but trying to give me a sense of a normal life, a normal home" Mara continued, Kara not looking at her properly as tears streamed down her eyes.
"You gave me that, Kara. I want to go back home with you because..." Mara sobbed softly as she looked at Kara with bright red eyes. "You're my home" She admitted. Mara placed her head on the glass, crying out for Kara. "Bring us home! Bring me home!" Mara called out. Kara took a deep breath before letting out a scream that rivaled any one Mara had heard before.
The engines stopping made Mara open her eyes. She looked at Kara, letting out her cries as the older blonde placed her hand back over Mara's. "You did it" Mara cried out softly, feeling Alex's arms wrap around her shoulders.
~~~

Alex smiled as she walked over to Mara and Henry, the pair sitting on a gurney. "Well? Is it all gone?" Mara asked Alex. The brunette smiled at her, "Yep, all the kryptonite is gone and so is all of CADMUS' liquid vials. No more needles for you" Alex told her.

Mara jumped off the gurney, hugging Alex tightly. Alex hugged her back, "I'm so glad you're home Mara" She smiled down at her. Mara smiled back, "Me too" she replied before grabbing Henry's wrist. "Come on, there's someone you need to see" She dragged him out of the room.

J'onn stood out on the balcony staring at the stars. "J'onn!" Mara called out, letting go of Henry's hand to hug him. J'onn let out a small chuckle at her, patting Mara's head softly. "There's my little leech" He smiled. Mara rolled her eyes at the name. "J'onn, there's something we...Henry needs to tell you" Mara stepped back.

Henry gave J'onn a small wave, wishing the ground would swallow him whole. Mara gestured to him to come closer but her brother did not listen. She rolled her eyes again and grabbed him arm and made him. "Well...uh you see..." Henry gulped nervously. Mara faced him properly. She placed her hand from her shoulder, taking a deep breath and allowing Henry to copy her. "Just start from the beginning" She advised him lightly before stepping away from him and J'onn slightly.

Taking one more deep breath, Henry composed himself. He looked J'onn in the eyes as he began. "My birth name is Hal'ernn H'razz" Henry spoke before his eyes began to glow a familiar red. His body morphed, his dark skin turning to a shade of green that only J'onn could gasp in surprise. "I'm a Green Martian...just like you" Henry spoke in his true form.

Stepping away from the Martians, Mara smiled softly as J'onn took hold of Henry's shoulders and their conversation left her ears. She didn't notice Kara walking up to her side, dressed in her civilian clothes also smiling at them. "Ready?" Kara turned her head to Mara.

Kara let Mara say goodbye to Henry first, the siblings hugging each other tightly. J'onn looked over at Kara, giving her a curt nod. She smiled back at him, uncrossing her arms as Mara ran towards her.

Mara let out a breath, her eyes lighting up as she linked her arm with Kara's and rested her head gently on her arm. "Home?" She asked her. Kara kissed the top of her head, "Yeah, let's go home".

It was time to tell Mara the truth. The entire truth.
