Chapter 4
*??? P.O.V*
The goddamn phone rings. It rings after 2 months. It finally fucking rings. I jump up as soon as the shrill ringing breaks out through the house and grab the phone, pressing 'answer' with lighting speed.
"Hello?" A trembling, old, scratchy voice speaks hopefully, unsurely.
"Hello." I answer, swallowing my anxiety and keeping my tone level.
"I'm Hannah. Patricia's mother. I listened to the voicemail." I heard her speak, altough I already knew this.
"I'm Yura. Patricia's fiancè." I introduced myself properly, my stomach tightening from all the antipication that went into this moment.
"I see. I feel fine with your relationship, I have come to realise that so long as there's love there, the least important thing is who shares it. Firstly, I'd like to ask, did Pat always treat you well? I would like to think I raised her as a respectful lady."
That whole sentence caught me off guard, altough it did touch me deeply. Suddenly, a flood of memories rushed inside my head and my heart melted as all the kind, sweet things gestures Pat did for me flashed in front of my eyes.
"More than well Mrs.Stones, she treated me like a princess, she spoiled me with love." I answered earnestly, a smile on my face at the thought of Pat. My Pat.
"How long have you two been together?" I heard Mrs.Stones ask in a kind, gentle even curious voice.
"We've been together for 8 years, we've been engaged for 5 years, we were to get married with your blessings, unfortunately, life had different plans." I explained, my heart aching deeply, weeping for my Pat.
"Oh..I...I am sorry and ashamed Patricia felt unsafe to tell me such a big part of her life, such a big part of her." Hannah told me honestly, and altough I couldn't understand how she felt exactly, my family being very supportive, I symphatized with her.
"Yes, I feel awful she felt that way, but now you know everything, the whole truth." I tried to find the silver lining.
"I suppose so my dear. I want to meet my grandaughters, if that is alright with you." Mrs.Stone told me, voice hopeful with a light wash of sadness covering it.
"That is more than alright. I would like nothing more than to introduce the girls to their grandmother. We can come later today, if you are free."
"For my family, there's always time my dear." She spoke and we hung up. I am her family. She isn't homophobic after all. Perhaps she had a change of heart when she lost Pat, which is reasonable. I called my girls into the living room to tell them the news.
"Girls, today you are meeting your grandmum!"
Olive tilted her head: "We're visiting Granny Liung?"
I smiled: "No sweetie, we are visiting your other granny. Granny Hannah."
Olivia's eyes lit up: "Our other mom's mom! Oh, but where is our other mom?"
A frown settled on my face at the question and I was silent for a long moment, trying to find my words and explain to them. I'm not gonna lie anymore, they deserve to know everything, about their other mom.
"You see, everyone in the world has a certain time limit to how long they can stay. Some people, however, get impatient so they leave early, not waiting for their time to run out naturally."
I stopped speaking, looking at the two girls questioningly, them staring back at me before Olivia spoke up quietly:
"It's ok mum, we understand." She said and looked at her sister, who nodded, showing she, too, understood.
"We miss her too." They spoke in unison and I was shocked. They were 7 and already understood the concept of death!
"I...um..go get read-ready, both of you, we leave soon." I managed to find my voice and words and they nodded, walking into their room to get ready.
Such, such smart girls they were already, I'm certain they will grow up to be exquisite young ladies, I thought to myself with a small smile. Suddenly, my gaze flicked upwards, towards the ceiling and the roof.
I remembered out of nowhere how much Pat loved German, and she spoke it fluently, as did I. Once she told me part of the reason she asked me out was because I spoke German. Hah! So, without flickering my gaze away from the sky and roof, I spoke:
"Unsere Kinder sind gut, ich bin stolz auf sie..." *
I knew she heard, and I knew she understood. A small, happy smile stayed plastered on my face as I, myself, began getting ready to finally meet Hannah in person.
