Sorry

Apologies involuntarily fly out of my mouth - requests for forgiveness, reconciliation, and accidental greetings.

I say "sorry" like a second skin.
It's a part of me that I've never been able to get rid of.

I may clumsily bump into another in the hallway. I am sorry.

I get defensive over simple things. I am sorry.

I procrastinate and say I'll stop. I don't. I am sorry.

I get down on myself. I am sorry.

I mess up. I am sorry.

I break down. I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry, I am sorry. . .

I am sorry that I am always sorry, and I don't know how to stop.

I am addicted to the word, and the feeling of forgiveness that fills me when I utter the phrase.

Again and again and again, I will always be sorry.
