Everblaze, Page 188-189 says these words and I quote:

(This is in a telepathy session for when Sophie is deciding who her guide should be for the healing)

"You and Fitz have a very strong- very special- connection."

A few sentences later...

"But it also says a lot that you chose to reach out to him. You trusted him with your life, and that's the type of bond you should have with your guide."

Sophie trusted Fitzroy Avery Vacker with her life numbers of times and he delivered safety for her
