At the bright sunny day, Gwen and Knuckles are cuddling underneath the tree they're lying down on as they listen to the sound of nature full of quietness and peace.

"Hey, Knuckles?"

"Hm?"

"Have you ever like wonder that maybe somewhere in the universe, like how our meeting will be different?"

"Like what?"

"Like... we did lose everything. But we somehow found each other after and maybe went through all the adventures together."

Knuckles put out a thoughtful look for a moment before facing her.

"Never thought of that. Our adventure would sound amazing and full of honor."

Gwen smiled and snuggled herself against his chest.

"I figured you'd say that. I was thinking the same thing. It would be great without us being enemies and fighting each other."

"And yet here we are. Together."

"Yeah, together."

The couples went back to cuddling as they then took a nap, which causes them to be in a dream they won't forget.

Years earlier...

Young Sonic pulls out a sunflower and a rose he picked from the outside, which makes Longclaw and young Gwen happy. Longclaw notices a tribe of echidnas in the trees, aiming their weapons at the trio. She then shuts the door and grabs young Sonic and young Gwen to protect them.

"Get down!"

The echidnas fire their arrows from their bows and they hit almost every corner of Longclaw's house, with one arrow breaking the window, barely missing Longclaw, and passing through Sonic's flowers, pinning them to the wood floor.

The echidnas climb through the windows and prepare to attack, but Longclaw, Gwen, and Sonic escape through the back window as the echidnas continue firing arrows at them. Eventually, the leader of the tribe, Pachacamac, fires his arrow and it strikes Longclaw, knocking her, Gwen, and Sonic out of the sky and sending them plummeting to the ground. A wounded Longclaw gets up and puts a very concerned Sonic and Gwen on their feet and they look up at her.

"Sonic, Y/N, you have to keep on running. They'll never stop until they find you two."

Longclaw gasps as she hears the echidna tribe getting closer, then she looks back down at Sonic and Gwen. She gently pushes them forward.

"Longclaw!" Sonic called worriedly.

"Go, Sonic, Gwen! I'll stop them!" Longclaw ordered, getting ready to fight the tribe.

"We're not leaving you!" Young Gwen pleaded.

"Run!! Now!!"

The two hedgehog siblings hesitates. Longclaw looks at them softly.

"Go! I promise I'll look for you two!"

They eventually nodded and young Sonic grabs his sister's hand and runs off in speed. Longclaw faces the echidna tribe and closes her eyes griefly.

"I'm sorry, my children..."

Later, young Sonic and Gwen are walking alone in the forest nervously as soon as they're far away from the fight.

"Do you think Longclaw will win?" young Sonic asked worriedly.

"I... hope so." young Gwen replied, looking unsure. "Let's just keep going and find some shelter and wait for Longclaw to come back."

He nodded as the two kept walking, gripping each other's hand.

Meanwhile, a certain young echidna was sitting in the stone stairs of his home, holding a spear. He looks anxious and worried, waiting for his father to come back. He still remembers those words that kept repeating in his mind like it was his last words.

"Your moment to honor our tribe will come, but it was not this moment."

"How much longer can it take? Not much... I guess. They must be... tired, and that's why they're taking so long. No, no! They're not late, they just... take their time." young Knuckles thought.

PRANG!

That sound caught his attention as he turned to the direction.

"Something triggered a trap." he said.

Young Knuckles got up and cautiously approaches it through the bushes as he puts his mask on, holding the spear up. As soon as he got close, he jumps out of the bushes and points his spear threatenly.

"Still!"

But what he didn't expect to see is a small young blue hedgehog Sonic in the cage, who cowers and screams. Confused, young Knuckles pulls his mask up to his head.

"You are a kid?"

He kneels down and starts poking the cage curiously, which made young Sonic scared.

"D-Don't hurt me! Get away!"

"Oh, shut it! I won't hurt you!" young Knuckles shouted in annoyance.

Young Sonic went silent for a moment until young Knuckles' eyes widen in recognition as he got a good look at him.

"Wait... I know who you are! You are that creature! The blue blur that led them to Longclaw! What are you doing here?"

Young Knuckles looks around cautiously with his spear up.

"Is she with you?! Where is she?!"

Young Sonic tries to pull the cage as he shakes them.

"Let me go!"

Young Knuckles glances at him unamused.

"Pfft, how weak you are, you can't lift that?"

He looked around again only to find no one in the opening.

"She's not here. Then everyone is still in battle..."

"Why do they want to hurt her?!" cried Young Sonic.

"That's none of your business, pipsqueak."

"They won't win! She will beat them all and come for me and my sister!"

"Ha! Longclaw doesn't stand a chance, my father and the tribe will finish her off."

"No, they won't!"

"And when dad comes back, he will be proud that I caught you."

Young Knuckles turns around and starts to walk away.

"HEY!" Young Sonic called.

Young Knuckles turns back around and sits down with his arms and legs crossed.

"I'll keep my eye on you until my tribe returns."

They had a stare off for a while as hours comes by when young Knuckles notices something.

"Hey, did you say you have a sister?"

Young Sonic smiled as he finally noticed.

"Yeah! And when she finds out I'm captured, she'll take you down."

Young Knuckles gets up with wide eyes.

"Could it be her name is...?"

"KNUCKLES!!!"

"Oh, great..."

CRASH!

Young Knuckles finds himself on the ground with young Gwen on top of him with her emerald chisel pointing at his neck.

"I almost forgot about you..."

"Release my brother! Now!"

"Never!"

Young Knuckles pushes her off of him and brings out his spear as young Gwen lands gracefully.

"Kick his butt for me, sis!!" Young Sonic cheered.

Young Knuckles raises his spear to strike her down only for her to block it with her chisel. She struggle to hold it up since he's strong only for the spear to cut out her headband she was wearing as it gets cut in half. It then falls off from her head, much to her dismay. Young Knuckles smirks.

"Haha! Oh, you're gonna weep now? Shall I pause until you mourn your headband?"

With a glare, young Gwen raises her chisel and points it straight at where his head is. He quickly dodges it only to hear it cut something. Young Knuckles glances to the side to see his mask with a cut mark on the side and the feathers that are once attached to his mask is now torn into pieces as little feathers falls off.

Young Gwen smirks back at him. Young Knuckles slowly turns and glares at her.

"You've done it now."

He rips off the mask from his head and drops it on the ground next to the cage. The two glare at each other for a moment before charging.

Young Sonic watched as the two battle it out with young Gwen bouncing back after every move while dodging.

"Man, how fast are you?!"

"I've got a great teacher!"

Just as young Knuckles goes to swing his spear at her, young Gwen jumped up high and raised her emerald chisel with a battle cry. He quickly blocked it with his spear as their blades clashed and young Gwen bounced back with slight shock.

"My tremendous horse-cut technique should've destroyed your spear!"

"Ha! You only hit the blade and not my handle! All of your fancy moves will get you nowhere. Now, quit jumping around and get to fighting!"

The two battle once again as young Sonic watched anxiously and the fight lasted the whole day as it turned into night. By then, young Gwen and young Knuckles were exhausted as they're on their knees, panting while young Sonic looks sleepy the entire time.

"Prepare to meet your doom, little blueberry..."

Young Knuckles then tried lifting his spear to strike her, but his arms are shaking with tiredness and he dropped them back to his side.

"I'll give you one more chance to give up." he said, breathing deeply.

"I am not defeated, and I shall hold my ground." Young Gwen said, looking tired and sweaty.

"H-Hold your ground? You can barely hold your knife."

"Then come get me."

This shocked young Knuckles and Sonic at her words.

"S-Sis..."

Young Knuckles struggled with his words as he doesn't know what to say until he groaned in frustration.

"You're lucky that I'm a sportsman. I'll give you a moment to recuperate."

"...Thanks."

Young Gwen and young Knuckles eventually collapsed on the ground with an exhausted sigh before snoozing as they let the tiredness take over their body as they sleep. Young Sonic eventually falls asleep in his cage, tired of watching this whole fight.
