nineteen

Hyunsuk was cooking calmly in the kitchen while Mina was reviewing some paperwork in the living room. She didn't realize that it felt that comfortable while smelling the faint scent of food wafting from the kitchen as she glanced at the kitchen from time to time. Hyunsuk was cooking with his back turned from her as he was chopping numerous vegetables while humming to himself. She remembered that he had multiple part-time jobs which probably in which he learned his cooking from.

She turned her attention towards the view outside where the sun disappeared from the sky as the moon was dazzling too brightly for the dark world in which she stood at. She closed her computer before making her way towards the terrace where she took a deep breathe to relax her busy mind. Someone called her name quietly as she turned around to find Hyunsuk standing near the door to motion her to come inside. It didn't feel like it was too long but she walked back inside after getting from fresh air and straight into the dining table.

She was actually quite impressed at the amount of food that Hyunsuk prepared as he placed two cups of orange juice onto the table as well. There was a small variety of simple made sandwiches with a small pizza in the middle. He sat down on one end as he spoke up shyly, "I worked at a cafe in which we sold fusion foods. So it's Korean-American soul food."

She laughed softly as she sat down as well before replying back with a tease, "I know what fusion means."

They both started to eat quietly as she didn't want to acknowledge that the other's cooking was quite delicious. She swallowed her bite as she then admitted to the truth, "You do cook well."

The other thanked her with a smile accenting his handsome dimples before they continued to eat in silence. Mina was famished quietly before her memories were brought to when she lived in America with her brother. Going to these cafes was her favorite thing to do as they would gossip among themselves and try to back off from paying.

Now that memory was long gone as she came back to Korea, and she never really ate cafe food again because it was a bitter longing. She wanted to eat those foods with her mother before she disappeared into the ground. But, Hyunsuk was the only one who seemed to understand her pain in which she continued to eat in gratitude.

Hyunsuk, on the other hand, was realizing how soft spoken and quiet Mina was actually was rather than the image she displayed to others in public. She used her strong image to hide away her pain, and he knew he shouldn't touch upon that topic. He cleared his throat before speaking up after sipping his juice, "Are you going to go back soon?"

"Do you want me to leave that bad in an apartment that I used to own?"

Hyunsuk shook his head before glancing at the view behind her as he replied carefully, "You seemed pretty busy."

Mina shook her head with an unknown smile as she picked at her sandwich once more before answering, "So you were listening."

"I never did. I just remember that it must be uncomfortable working out here since all your office stuff isn't here anymore."

"I can handle it, Hyunsuk."

They both glanced at each other within the awkward growing silence before facing their attention towards the empty plates of food. She finished munching on the last bits of her sandwich and pizza before wiping her mouth with a napkin. Hyunsuk stood up slowly before clearing up the empty dishes as Mina caught his attention, "That was good. It wasn't as fancy as the chef's. But I enjoyed it."

Hyunsuk smiled to himself before walking away without responding to her comment. Her fingers played with the cold cup of almost finished orange juice as she wanted to imagine her future as calm as this. What would happen to the two after this deal is finished? Can she get the peace that she longs for.

"Hi, I'm finally back. It feels new."

She waved at the cameras as a few reporters shouted her name to look at her. She was calling her manager as she flawlessly made her way through the sea of reporters within the airports. Everyone was calling her name as she continued to wave with her beautiful features. Her bodyguard was helping her with the luggage as she then got into her van where her manager was helping her inside.

She placed her phone into her bag as she angrily then spoke out once the door closed, "Why are you so late?!"

"I'm sorry, noona. I was trying to arrive on time but the airport was packed with reporters to see you."

"You should have expected that at least! The most famous model and actress is now in South Korea. Don't you want me to become bigger and better?!"

"I'll be careful."

She was then given some fruits as a welcome gift, and she started to munch on some of the tangerines that were found in the basket. The manager started to play gentle music within the car as she closed her eyes for a second to let the vibes of her home country sink into her. She couldn't believe that she was back in the place that she vowed to never come back to. She didn't have a home anymore, but her agency got her an expensive place as she enjoyed how extravagant the area was.

It was night time in Korea, and her manager didn't really understand why she had her sunglasses on the entire time. He started to drive towards her new apartment as she stared out the window as she smiled to herself with all the previous memories she had with her friends and ex-boyfriend. Taking off her sunglasses, she saw her own reflection in the window before murmuring under her breath, "Your new life was given back in L.A. You're no longer Jisoo. You're now Lia. A new rising star."
