eighteen
The date at Namsan Tower was something that Mina never expected to like. She liked the simple street food that was within the area as she also enjoyed looking out towards the view of the city. Most importantly, she felt at ease with Hyunsuk who wasn't pushy or cold-blooded like Bomin. She needed some positivity in her life that would benefit herself from all the drama.
A few phone calls kept interrupting their date as Jeonghan was trying to get Mina to invite Hyunsuk home so that they can get to the bottom of fixing the reputation of their family. He really goes all measures to make sure he gets loved by his father which doesn't end up always happening. Jaemin was also blowing up her phone as he was enraged to that Mina hid someone from him as they promised to tell things to each other that the other family members wouldn't. The twin telepathy was what he strongly wanted, but Mina knew that she needed to make sure no one knew the truth behind the fake boyfriend.
Hyunsuk turned his attention all around as he realized a few people were starting to recognize who she was as he leaned down to whisper, "I think people are starting to know who you are."
"Let's go. I can handle paparazzi but not actual people."
Hyunsuk slipped Mina's cold hand within his warm grasp as he then tugged her along back towards the cable car. She was taken back from the whole thing since she wasn't expecting from the other to do any romantic things at the moment. He gently placed both of their hands inside his coat pocket to keep them warm, and he didn't exactly let go of her hand. Mina felt her cheeks turning warm due to it as they silently rode the cable car without mentioning anything about the skinship.
They headed towards Hyunsuk's apartment afterwards, but Mina could feel her own stomach begging for food as she grasped onto her stomach with an embarrassed expression. Hyunsuk laughed softly as he spoke up, "I'm hungry as well. How about we stop by the market?"
"Not the restaurant?"
"I think you forgot that I basically lived with no money to buy those kinds of food. I can make something more better than that."
"Are you testing the chef's skills right now?"
"I sure am."
Mina scoffed gently at his rising confidence as she changed the direction of the car and started to drive towards the market. They both continued to bicker nonstop along the way until they arrived towards the parking structure of the marketplace. As they exited the car, Mina grabbed Hyunsuk as she pulled him away from the car to hide behind a wall. He was to protest why, but she covered his mouth with her hand before turning to glance out the wall once more.
She saw Hanbin walking around with an unknown female as she was aware that he never introduced his girlfriend to the family. Mina blinked quietly as she stared as the girlfriend took off the scarf and handed to Hanbin, who was smiling lovingly at her. He then handed her a small, red vest as she soon realized that it was the market's uniform that the girl was wearing. She was able to connect the dots as Hanbin left a small kiss on her forehead, before she headed inside the market as she waved.
Her brother made his way back to his own car before driving away from the location that they were standing at. Hyunsuk, in the midst of this, was very confused on what was happening as he stared down at Mina as she hid her face against his chest to not be seen. She couldn't believe that Hanbin was actually dating someone that was not of rich blood. She could imagine her father's expression once he found out that Hanbin was not dating a heir, but a mere citizen living with minimum wage.
Hyunsuk carefully removed her hand from his mouth as he whispered carefully, "What's wrong?"
Mina totally forgot about their position before she pulled away quickly before replying back as she cleared her throat, "Nothing. I just saw someone I know.."
"And you were stalking them?"
"Not stalking, just looking."
They both headed back towards the market as Mina kept a close eye for the mysterious girl. She couldn't find her anywhere as Hyunsuk was mindlessly grabbing all the groceries that he needed to use to cook. Mina impatiently tapped her foot against the ground as she stared back at Hyunsuk, who was staring at two pieces of cabbages to find out which one was better, as she asked, "Are you done now?"
"Quality food comes from quality ingredients."
After about whining to him quietly for nonstop to go home, they finally reach to the checkout point where Mina realized that Hanbin's girlfriend was a cashier. She was smiling beautifully to all the customers as everyone was asking how such a pretty girl was working in a run down market. Her response would always be the same, "I am in college so I needed extra money."
Hyunsuk was busily looking at his phone as they waited before Mina tapped him on the shoulder and asked, "Hey, do you think that cashier is pretty?"
Hyunsuk looked up quietly before looking at where Mina was directing him. He shrugged his shoulders as she replied impatiently, "Answer me..."
"I think you're the prettiest, Mina."
He blurted out without a thought as he realized what he had said. They were able to reach the cashier in time so that Hyunsuk would be distracted with placing his groceries on the conveyor belt as Mina was paying the cashier. His words ringed within her ears as all she could hear was Hyunsuk's small voice repeating it, "I think you're the prettiest, Mina."
She met many men before that involved them saying those empty words in order to win her over. But, the taken aback expression that Hyunsuk had on his face really showed that he was being sincere and not trying to impress her. Hyunsuk wondered why he even said that without thinking of a backup plan to go against it. They got into the car after placing the groceries inside without much talking as a phone call started to come in onto Mina's phone.
She placed the receiver on speaker as Hyunsuk quietly listened to Mina's step-mother clear her throat arrogantly before speaking in a hushed tone, "Your father wants you to come in immediately."
Mina rolled her eyes annoyingly before replying back with an unimpressed tone, "Are you sure it's not you who wants me in early?"
"I don't appreciate that tone, young lady."
Her father intervened immediately as he took the phone from her step-mother's grasp as Mina grimaced to herself for falling into her mother's devious tricks. Mina sighed to herself before replying back, "Why do you want me home?"
"How could you dare lie to us about meeting Bomin? The internet is going crazy after there are photos with you and unknown, regular citizen!"
Mina glanced at Hyunsuk who was just staring out the window as if he wasn't listening at all. She cleared her throat before replying back, "I told you before I came back into Korea, that I will date someone that you won't expect if you push my wedding onto me."
"Kang Mindy!"
"I'm quite busy right now, father. I am out doing work as I need to get my managing skills all prepared since Bomin is only a business partner not a guy to be married to."
"Marriage with him is only business, Mindy."
"I don't care. I don't want to be with him. I will see you later when I get back."
Mina hung up before her father as she glanced at Hyunsuk once more, who was still staring outside the window. She cleared her throat quietly before speaking up, "I know you were listening the entire time."
"To what?"
Hyunsuk replied back with an instant as he turned his face to finally glance back at her as he didn't want to disrespect her by listening in on her conversation. He shrugged his shoulders and replied back with a lie, "I was sleeping, so you were just being very loud. But I don't know anything nor do I care."
Mina hid her smile behind as she continued to drive towards his place. She felt a little tug within her chest as she started to wonder the depths of Hyunsuk's calm personality that was very different to Bomin's threatening one. She felt at ease, and he didn't once ask her about the family thing she was going through. There was one person who was willing to avoid anything about her family, and she was glad that it was someone she still barely knew.
