Happy Now?
Thanks to TonyGarcia348 for helping me choose which ending to go with.
Kowalski had never liked guns.
They just weren't his thing. Too loud, too clumsy and far too likely to fall into the hands of idiots. That was probably his main issue with America. Any idiot could get a gun like Donald Trump, people high enough to think they're Jesus (and yes, that has happened to people) and people who get them to blow their own brains out. Mostly though Trump. Seriously, why was a cheeto with hair running a country? That didn't stop him holding a gun to his head, finger on the trigger, weighing everything which had led to this. He needed to ensure he was doing the right thing because there would be no turning back ftom this. Death was very permanent, which was why he was holding the gun. To his head. With the safety off.
The glasses wearing scientist had been broken so many times that the fractures had fractures and the breaks were now dust. There was nothing to fix because even the idea of hope was gone. They had unintentionally crushed the scientist, their teammate...their friend. Skipper, Rico and Private had no clue what was happening and Kowalski figured when they inevitably found out they'd open the champagne, invite all their friends, screaming thanks to the heavens. Yeah, he really had lost any semblance of someone who trusted his team and was unaware they still cared.
All they'd done is prove otherwise, time and time again. Kowalski barely slept or ate and noone noticed. 'Because they don't care' his thoughts spitefuly cut in, causing the ravenette to flinch. He sighs, legs crossed beneath him, eyes closed in thought. He wasn't crying, not anymore, he was far too numb for that. His heart was metaphorically dead so why not make it practical?
It had all gone wrong so quickly that there had been no way to stop the avalanche of disaster which it brought.
The team didn't need him, they'd made that clear enough. They made him stop inventing because he screwed up too much and besides. Why would they need "worthless gizmos" when their skills were so much better? They saw him as useless and told him as much. That had been a low blow for the scientist and he vaugly realized that was the day he stopped inventing behind their backs. He simply couldn't enjoy it anymore. Not with the constant feeling of being a failiure.
Then was them isolating him. He was told constantly that he wasn't good enough and was left behind with dark thoughts and an aching chest.
A couple of weeks ago Kowalski and Skipper had a bitter argument, about what the scientist didn't care to remember. Skipper's closing remark rang in his mind. "Just shut up Kowalski! You have no impact on this group! You know what, it wouldn't make any difference if you were dead!' Of course, neither of them brought it up again and the two acted like nothing had happened but he was entirely destroyed. He pulled the safety, not noticing the door open behind him. He wouldnt expect it, given they weren't due to be back for hours yet.
Skipper's eyes widened at the sight and he froze, shocked, not knowing what to do. Just as motion entered his body Kowalski's finger squeezed the trigger. He crumpled, instantly, never hearing the desperate, broken, scream of his name.

Skipper missed the old Kowalski. He missed the eternal creative inventor who kept trying no matter how many failiures occured. He missed the brightest member of the team who would never withhold information. Most of all he missed the friend who would actually smile. That's why they returned early... he wanted to talk to Kowalski to see if he could smooth things over.
He didn't knock, it was late and he figured the brainiac would either be curled up with a book or doing something clever. Instead he saw something which froze his blood in his veins, his body stiffening. Kowalski sat with his back to him, gun held to his head, shoulders slumped. Then a gunshot, loud in the silent room, forcing Skipper's heart stop for a second.
"KOWALSKI!!" he screamed, tears burning his eyes as he cradled the too light, too thin figure in his arms. "Don't do this!" It was already done though. "Please, please no..." Tears ran down Skipper's cheeks into Kowalski's dark locks but the scientist was gone. Rico and Private, having heard the gunshot and scream came running, freezing at the entrance at the sight. Private instantly began sobbing and Rico turned deathly white. Then they saw the hastly scribbled note, only four lines.
"Are you happy now?"
Four words which broke three hearts.
Anyone want a pt2?
