Gone
Jessica Phyllis Lange is a carefree child; she is sweet and loves with all her heart.
Her parents, Dorothy and Phillip Lange are loving and caring parents. Jessica was the light of their life. They spoil Jessica since she's the only child but Jessica doesn't take anything for granted and is grateful for things she has.
But a few days after Jessica's ninth birthday, her mother is diagnosed with cancer. She was at stage four and was given a slim chance at survival.
Dorothy's doctors gave Dorothy an extreme treatment of chemo therapy and all they could do was hope and pray for a miracle.
But that miracle didn't come; now Dorothy was on her death bed and all her family were crushed.
Jessica took it the hardest. She was a mommy's girl and she loved her mother dearly. As Dorothy's health declined, Phillip thought it was best if Dorothy would be more comfortable at home with her family and Dorothy agreed. She wanted to die in her own home and with her family by her side.
Dorothy had round the clock nurses coming and giving her her medication to keep her comfortable and make sure she wasn't in any pain.
Each night, Jessica would climb onto Dorothy's hospital bed and curl into Dorothy's side. Dorothy would hold her baby girl as tightly as she could and both slept peacefully throughout the night.
Jessica knew her mother's days were numbered because now, all Dorothy would do is sleep. She would only wake up for only a few minutes each time. Jessica was so scared; she didn't want to lose her mother. She still needed her.
One day at school, Jessica was sitting with her two best friends, Sarah and Danny. They both knew what was going on with Jessica's mother and were there to comfort her the best they could. They saw Jessica go from a carefree child to this empty shell of her former self.
Jessica was picking at her food, not really eating. She had a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach and she didn't know why.
Sarah and Danny were lost at how they could help her. There was nothing they could really do. They couldn't even imagine what Jessica was going through.
Suddenly, Jessica's teacher, Mrs. Reynolds, walked up to the table Jessica was sitting at. She bent down to Jessica's level and said softly. "Jessica, sweetie, your aunt is here to pick you up. She's going to take you home now."
Tears sprang to her eyes; Just by the tone in voice and sadness in Mrs. Reynolds eyes, Jessica knew why her aunt was picking her up early from school.
Jessica stood up and left with Mrs. Reynolds. She didn't even say goodbye to her best friends but they understood why she didn't.
Jessica went to grab her backpack from her classroom then went to the office where her aunt Jane was waiting.
Jane smiled sadly as she saw Jessica. "Let's get you home."
Jessica just nodded and took her aunts hand as she led her to the car.
Once they arrived at Jessica's home, Jessica dropped her backpack on the floor by the door and rushed to her mother's room.
When she walked in, she saw Phillip crying by her mother's side, holding her hand tightly.
Dorothy looked so pale and so lifeless. It finally hit Jessica and she ran to her mother's side. She jumped into the bed and wrapped her arms around Dorothy and sobbed.
"Mommy! Please! Come back to me!" Jessica cried. "You can't leave me! Please, please, come back!"
Phillip's heart broke all over again; how was he going to raise his daughter on his own. Without Dorothy by his side, he didn't know if he could.
He didn't know if he could move on. Dorothy was the love of his life, his soulmate. Now...she was gone.
