28. Family

The boy clenches at his pants in excitement. "Ariel." Logan states.

"You have a son? I never knew.." I choke up, dusting myself off from the floor.

"Go play with your toys before we go Anthony." Logan sends his son away as he smiles down at me.

"I never thought I'd see you again..."

"Come sit." Logan holds onto my hand, pulling me towards two chairs. He said nothing for a while, he just stared at me for some time. "I adopted Anthony four months after becoming chairman."

"Oh." My eyes wander towards the children playing with their toys. "Your wife must be happy." My words came out so dry, so hurt.

"The orphanage where I adopted him from gave me some leeway. I make more than enough to support a child on my own. The foster care worker was pretty hesitant at first. Anthony and I bonded quickly. She had told me he never bonded with anybody that wanted to adopt him." Logan clears his throat. His rough hands remained on mine. I could feel his warmth, I could feel safe again, even if it was just for a moment. "I have no wife Ariel."

"Anthony's parents were killed in a bank robbery. He had no other relatives." Logan continues.

"The boy is lucky to have you Logan." I pat his hand with my own. He tightens his grip around my hands and sighs. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry? For what?" My eyes widen at his pained expression.

"For pushing you away. I didn't think I could live with myself after the death of Sam. I didn't feel worthy to have anyone by my side."

"Logan.." My heart pounds against my chest like a beating drum as he gets closer.

"For all these eight months I haven't thought of anyone else, but you." He whispers. "You're like water. I need you."

I felt like my heart was melting away. "But you...you pushed me away."

"I know. I'm sorry, I just wasn't ready. I felt unworthy. I've missed you for eight months, everyday." Logan places a hand on my cheek. "You're the one for me, Ariel. You're the one I need."

His lips brush against mine. I could feel his hot breath against my lips. "Please, be mine." His arms wrap around my waist, pulling me closer towards his chest. I didn't say a word, I only stole a kiss from him. Feeling his soft lips made me feel bliss. I've been yearning for this moment.

"Yes, I'll be yours." I whisper in a pant.

"Forever." Logan adds ready to place another passionate kiss.

"I'm not going anywhere." I add as the children stand in front of us making disgusted expressions. "Ewww." They howled as we both laugh at the sight of them.

Logan and I stared down at the tombstones in the cemetery. "I haven't come in so long." He stares at his sister's name engraved on the stone.

"I come every week to clean their stones and place new flowers." I pick up the dead flowers and place new ones on their gravestone. "At least they are buried next to each other. That's what they would've wanted."

"Yeah." Logan sighs. "Don't blame yourself for her death. It wasn't your fault." I clench onto his arm.

"I know. It'll just take time to heal the pain." Logan places a kiss on my forehead. "With you by my side, I can do anything."

The wind howls as the autumn leaves flow through the air making the ground look like a lovely orange road.

"We can do this Logan. We can be happy." I add.

A week passed. I moved into Logan's house. Anthony was warming up to me pretty well. It was a start, but I had doubts about Logan and I.

"Logan..." My eyes wander at his bare muscular back. My hands roam around his back side making him turn around.

"You're beautiful." He takes a glance at my soft pink night gown. I began to blush at his words, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I need to tell you something." My eyes wander at the floor.

"What is it?" Logan takes a seat besides me, taking a strand of hair from my face and moving it away. "What's wrong?"

"Do you love me?" I heavily sigh.

"Of course I do." He gives me a frown.

"I love you too." I gulp, but I need to tell you something that can ruin our relationship." My eyes were fixated on his now.

"Ariel, nothing will ruin our relationship." He caresses my chin and smiles. "Nothing, understood?"

I nod. "I went to the doctor three days ago. They told me I can never carry a child. My uterus is ruptured, there's nothing they can do."

"And?" Logan's brow raises. "How will this ruin our relationship?"

"Because I will never bare your child Logan. We can never have our own." I hug myself into his arms.

"That doesn't bother me." He rubs my back kissing my forehead. "We can always adopt another."

"Do you really mean that?" My eyes stare up at him like a puppy.

"Princess, I mean everything that I say." He gently pins me onto the bed. My breathing intensifies as my hands roam his strong chest.

He begins to kiss my neck, creating love bites on my body. His hands intrude under my night gown as I let out a pant of surprise.

He tugs me out of my night gown. His bare skin touching mine. "I love you Ariel." He lowly groans.

"I love you too." I pull down his boxers as he spreads my legs to the sides. He positions himself on top of me again. "I'll be gentle." He warns nibbling on my neck.

ONE YEAR LATER

"This is Mia." The foster care worker introduces the little Japanese girl to the newly wedded couple.

"Hi Mia." I crouch down extending my hand towards the little six year old. "My name is Ariel."

The girl slowly places her hand on mine and smiles. The girl had a recent bruise on her forehead. They had just put her in the foster care system after the parents were arrested for child abuse and neglect.

"This is Logan." I point up at my husband who smiles down at us. "I know you're scared Mia, but we're good people. We want to give you a better home."

"I used to be like you." Anthony points at the girl. "They gave me a new home and a new mom and dad." He places a hand on the girl's shoulder.

The girl stares at Anthony. "I'm scared." Her tiny voice shudders.

"Don't be. They're fun and nice. Here." Anthony gives her his favorite transformer action figure. "It's for you."

The girl grabs the toy and stares at it for a while. "Toy?" She questioned. Mia didn't know what a toy was until recently.

"Yes honey, that's a toy." I gently caress her black straight hair as she observes it.

"I think she will be a great match for your family. Don't you Mia? I promise they are nice people." The worker rubs her shoulders.

Mia nods shyly. Another worker takes Mia away as she waves goodbye. "She needs speech therapy sessions and psychological sessions until she improves on her trauma." The worker states.

"That's not a problem." Logan nods. "She will have everything she needs."

The worker nods beginning to document the paperwork.

After passing the home check and background check, Mia was their's to take home.

"Welcome to your new home." Logan and I open our entrance door as she walks inside. She stares around the house as Anthony storms in turning on the television. "Want to watch tv?" He questions.

Mia nods as they sit on top of the sofa. The children began to speak freely, while Logan and I supervised them from a far.

"I told you this would work out. This is our family now." Logan brings me into his embrace, hugging me as he places various kisses on my cheek. I couldn't help but laugh as he opens the backyard door next to us.

"You think I'd forget about the family dog?" His smirk turns into a devilish one.

"What? Dog?" I question.

Logan lets out a whistle as a small puppy runs up to him with a red bow wrapped around it's neck. It was a golden retriever, it placed it's small paws onto Logan's ankle and ran inside.

The children cheered with joy as I stare up at him with an arched eyebrow. "We didn't speak about this."

Logan chuckles picking me up from the ground. "Surprise?" He smirks.

"Mhm." I wrap my arms around his neck as we kiss.

"Alright! Who's got names for the puppy?!" Logan runs into the living room like a child.

"Me! Me! Me!" Anthony and Mia cheered.
