chapter 21
wooyoung san
to tell the truth, he was more than a little nervous for his date with wooyoung.
sure - he had been the one to initiate the idea, but that didn't change the fact he was nervous as fuck.
he couldn't stop changing into a different outfit every time he thought he was satisfied with his appearance, and it didn't help that he no longer could turn to his friends for advice on his clothes.
his heart sank as his eyes fixated on his phone, at the neglected group chat no one had been active on for a while now. he wondered if yeosang was staring at his the same thing through his phone, feeling any kind of guilt as his fingers typed and deleted countless messages.
but that wasn't important at the moment. what was important was looking good enough for wooyoung to never flirt with anyone else ever again.
maybe san was insecure, but could you blame him? he had never received love for most of his life, always distrustful to any form of affection just in case the giver took it away as suddenly at it had been given.
most people only felt sorry for him, but wooyoung wasn't like them. for the first time in his life, san really felt there was someone who liked him for him, and didn't feel a duty to stay with him just because of their guilt.
someone he could be honest with and trust.
maybe it was too soon to be so optimistic about their relationship, but wooyoung... was wooyoung.
that was explanation enough. the other lifted san's mood by all the little things he did, even if he didn't realise he was doing them.
san loved the way wooyoung held him at night when he couldn't sleep. he loved the way he kissed his cheeks and poked his dimples. he loved his laugh, the way its sweet sound filled san up and burst his heart into a million new hearts all created with the purpose of loving everything about him.
it was like that, when you really cared about someone. suddenly, nothing was about you, or anyone else, except for them. you began to see them in every colour, hear them in every song. think about them even when they weren't with you.
yeah, san was whipped.
he chucked aside yet another coat hanger, checking the time and nibbling his lip nervously.
go simple. you don't want to look like you're trying too hard.
wooyoung hadn't even told him where they were going, so san had no idea what the dress code should be. he supposed nothing too fancy, as it was midday not evening, which gave him the idea it was something cliché like an amusement park.
amusement park, amusement park... the black turtle neck? san rolled his eyes at his own indecisiveness.
in the end, he pulled on an oversized white shirt and khaki jacket, complete with denim jeans and minimum accessories. he probably would have changed again, but he was running out of time to meet wooyoung on time.
his boyfriend had told him to meet him in the parking lot (romantic, right?) and he would drive them for the date. wooyoung has been acting a little weirdly since the day at the café, but san suspected it was just nerves for their date, the same as him.
shaking off his lingering anxieties, san took a deep breath and pushed the dorm door open, striding as confidently as he could and twice as he felt towards the exit. with every step, he wanted to turn around and run away, but he forced himself to keep walking and suck it up because he had nothing to be nervous about.
the butterflies fluttering in his stomach suddenly went ecstatic, the moment he laid eyes on wooyoung, who was already waiting.
the boy's faded lilac hair was parted neatly over his forehead, his relaxed face complemented by cute round accessory glasses that rested on his nose with little silver chains. a baby blue turtle neck topped off with a dark denim jacket flattered his figure, which rested effortlessly against his motorcycle as if he were modelling.
wooyoung's pink lips morphed into a smile when he saw san advancing towards him, and he raked a shy hand through his hair, eyes sparkling with an indescribable mischief.
"did i keep you waiting long?" san questioned softly when he reached the other.
"not at all." wooyoung replied, taking in san's appearance, his eyes moving incredibly quickly up and down his body before once more, slowly as if making a detailed copy in his mind.
"take a picture, it'll last longer." san muttered in embarrassment, shuffling his feet and pouting at wooyoung shyly.
"you did not just use that line on me." wooyoung shook his head in fake disappointment. "but i'll try not to stare."
"i don't mind if it's you." san poked him in the chest, blush rising to his warming cheeks.
"but then i'd have to take a picture," wooyoung explained dramatically. "and i don't want anyone else looking at you."
SKHSJSKSJJSKSJS- "haha, you're hilarious." san muttered dryly, hiding his smile with a fake gagging noise.
"so where are we going?" he questioned with comical interest, anticipating eyes questioning the other.
"it's a secret." wooyoung smiled crookedly, getting on his bike and patting the seat for san to join him.
"it's a theme park, isn't it?" san inquired while fastening the helmet tightly.
"maybe." wooyoung modded sheepishly, pulling san's arms around his waist securely.
"how utterly gay first date and cliché of you."
"just wait until we get there." the other muttered, revving his engine and beginning to leave the property slowly before getting into a more wooyoung like pace.
san smiled widely into the wind, unable to reply over the noise but feeling overly happy and hopeful as he locked his hands tightly and buried his face in his boyfriend'a neck, no longer afraid of the exhilarating speed.
as long as he was with wooyoung, he felt safe. safer than he had ever felt before.
···
they arrived at the theme park, and the first thing san noticed was the amount of people that were there. crowds of bustling people, young children and adults, buying cotton candy or trying not lose their excited child in the mass.
young couples, wasting their money trying to pop all the balloons on a rigged game, trying to win the largest teddy bear or prove their worth by hitting the punching bag the hardest.
san made a little noise of delight, clambering from the bike and removing his helmet, grabbing wooyoung's hand and dragging him into the grounds.
a dimpled smile lit his face as he practically ran towards the nearest ride, which happened to be a rollercoaster. he turned with a joyous laugh to wooyoung, pointing excitedly.
"you're a literally child." the other complained, but he was smiling warmly nonetheless.
"you're just scared!" san taunted, wiggling his eyebrows as he forced wooyoung to join the line.
"am not." he denied, with a fearful glance of dread at the loops and drops.
"it's okay, jung," san patted his shoulder, putting on a gruff affirmative voice. "i'll tell everyone it was me screaming."
"i'd rather you hold my hand." wooyoung winked, latching their fingers and causing san to cover his face with his free hand out of shy embarrassment.
"since when we're you such a confident gay." he mumbled, cherry cheeks in all their glory.
"since i met you." he replied, scrunching his nose at san and looking away. "you're contagious."
"jennie, let's leave," came the cocky voice of someone in the line behind them. "don't want to catch the faggot disease."
san tensed up, expecting wooyoung to let go of his hand. he ignored the jest, pretending not to have heard, but wooyoung spun around immediately, scanning for the speaker.
"who the fuck said that?" he demanded, only holding san tighter.
a buff guy in his early twenties raised his hand boldly, ignoring the quiet pleads from the girl standing with him. "right here. you heard me."
wooyoung sniffed angrily, face taking on a familiar dark anger. "say it again. i fucking dare you to try."
the guy stepped forward, sizing wooyoung up. "i said, you two are the faggots. no one wants you here."
san pulled wooyoung back, restraining him from jumping on the stranger. "stop, woo. he's not worth it."
"listen to your boyfriend." the guy sniggered, but san just contained his calm composure, not betraying any emotion.
"you listen, jerk." san began, narrowing his eyes at the stranger. "just because your ego is bigger than your dick doesn't mean you can take your insecurities out on us, so kindly take your uneducated insults and shove them up your ass. if you're going to insult us, at least do it well, man." he shook his head in disappointment. "maybe read a dictionary, it's not like i haven't heard that one before."
the guy was too dumbfounded to retaliate, and thankfully a member of staff intervened before anything more could happen.
"i'm going to have to ask you to leave, sir." a calm young man about the same age as the speaker took his arm gently, escorting the couple out of the line.
"wow." wooyoung gasped, squeezing san's hand. "you're a badass."
san clenched his teeth, shrugging stiffly. "and here i thought we could have a nice date in peace."
his boyfriend smiled apologetically, staring down anyone else who looked at them twice until they got to the front of the line.
on the rollercoaster, san managed to forget the remarks of that guy, smiling uncontrollably while wooyoung just screamed wildly the whole time.
"HOW ARE YOU SO CALM?!" the other yelled over the sounds of wind and wheels.
"it's not that bad!" san replied joyfully, letting go of the rails and throwing his hands up, which caused wooyoung to scream at him that he was going to die and freak our for his safety.
"CHOI SAN IF YOU DON'T HOLD THE FUCKING RAIL-" he screamed again, but got cut off by the next drop, finishing his sentence by a muffled jumble of incoherent words.
when it was over, san was laughing, but wooyoung looked as if ten years had just been added to his life span.
"never again." wooyoung muttered, holding his stomach as he stumbled out the cart.
san jumped out energetically, bounding after him and clinging onto his arm. "one more time?~"
"no." wooyoung croaked, still pale as they walked around the grounds, hand in hand.
"how about a different ride?" wooyoung asked hopefully, steering them away from the direction they had come.
"good idea!" san nodded enthusiastically. "which one do you wanna go on?"
"the ferris wheel." wooyoung replied.
"the ferris wheel?" he repeated, crestfallen.
"yes." the other said firmly, not bent on changing his mind.
"fine, fine..." san rolled his eyes, allowing wooyoung to lead him in the direction of the boring attraction in question.
"it's romantic." wooyoung protested after seeing his pout as they passed their tickets to the administrator.
"yeah, yeah." san flicked his hand in a dismissive gesture. "whatever you say mr. chivalry."
as the wheel started, his spirits lifted a little. the calm isolated feeling was admittedly comforting.
"not so bad, is it?" wooyoung asked softly, taking san's hand with a small smile.
"no." san agreed, leaning closer to his boyfriend without tearing his gaze from the other's sunlit face. the warm hues illuminated him perfectly, hitting his honey skin in all the right places, enhancing his beauty and hitching san's breath.
"would you look at that," wooyoung whispered, eyes on san's lips. "we're a almost at the top of the wheel."
"i bet the view's nice." san his whispered back, not bothering to look at anything else besides the boy in front of him.
"too bad i don't really care," wooyoung leaned in, hand under san's chin, the brush of his fingers sending shivers down his spine. "since the only view i need is right here in front of me."
for once, san couldn't care less at the cheesy words. instead, he leaned into the other's soft touch, brushing his lips against wooyoung's briefly.
before he could lean away, the other pulled him gently out of his seat and onto his lap, so that san's knees were on either side of his waist. they stared at each other for a short moment, before leaning in at the same time, connecting their lips in a slow kiss.
they were all alone up there, on the top of the world, and nothing else mattered. he moved his mouth in response, angling his head to deepen the kiss.
they weren't in any rush, and wooyoung's hands rested on his waist securely, thumbs rubbing small circles there as san's hands found each side of the other's face.
he let out a small noise of impatience, which wooyoung took advantage of by pushing his tongue into his mouth. his fingers ghosted san's skin where his jacket hitched up, causing him to shiver in delight, cupping the other's face and kissing him harder.
as his tongue explored at a steady pace, san yanked him closer still in an impatient attempt to maximize contact.
his hand slipped in wooyoung's jacket, and he shuffled a little further onto his lap, causing the other to break away after a satisfied groan. both were out of breath, their cheeks reddened and hearts racing.
"we shouldn't get carried away." wooyoung breathed against san's neck, allowing him to slide off his lap and into his own seat.
"good idea." san mumbled, running a hand through his messed up hair.
he rested his head on wooyoung's shoulder, and as the ferris wheel finished its descent and the two came into view, nothing seemed out of the ordinary to any onlookers who happened to notice them.
