Chapter nine
"What? Cat, how will we?" I said to Cat panickedly.
Cat answered,
"Well, we don't really have a choice do we?"
I sighed. Cat was right - we had no choice.
"We need to get some food then, find shelter and choose where we live wild." I told Cat.
Cat nodded and turned around to walk down the mountain. We agreed to meet in the same forest, where we would hunt for food. I stepped close to the cliff edge and opened my wings. I jumped off the cliff edge and flew away to the forest we would be meeting in. My journey took little time and soon, I landed in the forest we had agreed to meet in - Suncliff wood.
Cat arrived at Suncliff wood a few minutes later, with a dead rabbit in her mouth.
"That rabbit's our first wild breakfast." Cat told me once she'd transformed.
I asked Cat, as I was interested,
"How come you have to be in normal form to speak?"
Cat responded,
"Animals can't talk, so neither can any Feliner in transformative form. I know why you're asking, it's because you can talk in both of your forms, you're lucky with that."
I then asked Cat,
"So... what do we do in the wild? It was your idea to live in the wild."
Cat paused thoughtfully, before saying,
"Erm... I don't know, I guess wild things just eat, gather, shelter, sleep, survive. Once they've done all that, they don't have time to do anything else."
"Okay." I replied. "We had best find shelter then and gather some berries for storing."
"Yeah... okay, lets do this." Cat replied uncertainly.
None of us were used to living wild and we were kind of inexperienced. But hey, there were no bears in the Atlo country I was in so we should be safe. For most of that long day, we just walked around the mountain wilderness, gathering bilberries when we could find them but mostly getting lost. Nothing really happened all day and it was kind of boring with no entertainment. Even a maths lesson at school would've been more exciting than Suncliff woods was that day. But then, at nightfall, things got dangerous.
It was very dark in the woods we were in and the sticks in Suncliff wood were too damp to make a fire from. Nibbling bilberries boredly, Cat and I just sat on a log trying to amuse ourselves.
"Let's try going into a different wood, there might be better firewood there." Cat suggested brightly.
I agreed and we stood up and walked out of Suncliff wood. We walked around the heathland for a while, before we spotted another forest. It was too dark to recognise what forest it was but we went into it anyway. Once in the forest, I sensed magic. Cat looked worried and she told me,
"Layla, somethings wrong. I smell danger. If you stay there so I can find you when I come back, I'm off to investigate." At that point, Cat walked away hurriedly. I looked around me, nothing seemed to be wrong, it was just quite dark, that was all. Then, after a minute, I heard a growl come from the woods. Surprised, I turned around but I heard another growl behind me. I turned around to face the direction where the growl had come from and saw a pair of eyes rush past. A pair of yellow eyes. Then, I heard a howl and something slammed into my back. I immediately turned round and saw a wolf as big as me baring its teeth at me. The wolf growled and slammed into me again, knocking me over. I kicked the wolf hard but it had another defence. The wolf sprung on top of me again and sunk its teeth into my leg. Now I couldn't run away! I screamed at the pain of the bite, shouting for Cat to help me. Then, I heard a yowl. I looked up and saw a panther with glossy black fur sail through the air, claws unsheathed, growling a fearsome growl. Cat! Cat pounced on top of the wolf so hard, he instantly let go of my leg and I was able to run to a safe distance to see what Cat would do to him. Cat bit the wolf several times, the wolf yelping each time, before he ran off, whimpering. Once the wolf had run away, Cat returned to her normal form.
"What was that?" I asked Cat.
"Rogue Wolver." Cat answered me. "Not all Wolvers are friendly. That Wolver claimed we were in his territory."
Cat then said happily,
"Hey Layla, I just spotted an ideal shelter - a bushy tree! So we have somewhere to stay!"
"What should I do about my bite though?" I asked Cat worriedly.
Cat informed me,
"The Wolver didn't give you a bad injury. It may have been painful but un-ordinary humans are resitant to infection and disease from bites. You'll be fine."
I was resistant to disease from bites! Now that was pretty cool. Cat and I wandered along under the tree Cat had spotted and settled down to sleep under it. I shut my eyes, sleeping until dawn.

When I woke up to transform, Cat was also awake. This greatly surprised me as I thought she'd be tired after that fight with a Rogue Wolver. Cat approached me, doing her mixed emotions face.
"What is it Cat?" I asked her.
Cat replied,
"That attack from a Wolver has made me homesick because its reminded me of my boyfriend, Shadow. Thinking about Shadow has also made me think about my pride. I have realised that a Feliner is never happy without a pride to call home." She continued, "But I want to keep you company too... I don't want to abandon you in the wild..."
I told Cat,
"Cat, if you are homesick, there is only one cure - to go back home. You will never be happy living in the wild if you miss your pride. I advise you go back to your pride, say sorry and hope they will accept you again. I will be fine in the wild - don't worry about me."
Cat nodded. She said to me, a tinge of sadness in her voice,
"I think you are right, Layla. But I want to do something for you... Ah well, I will go back to my pride. Goodbye my friend..."
Cat turned around and walked away, leaving the forest. I watched her walk away before I saw the sun rise and began to transform.
"What do I do now?" I thought, after I had transformed.
