"So you found her when you were out running?" Sheriff Noah Stilinski questioned Coach Finstock, "Yeah," Coach replied quickly loudly, being swiftly reprimanded by the nurse Melissa McCall who was also in the room, although she understood why Coach was so rilled up it was the third time that he had been asked this question, the first was the paramedic upon their arrival at the scene, the second was nurse McCall and now the Sheriff.
"I was out running through the path in the Beacon Reserve, the one you're meant to run in when going through the Reserve when suddenly she appears on the path a couple of feet from me, completely naked and looking distressed." Coach told the Sheriff, his eyes wide and his tone frustrated. "And then?" the Sheriff questioned.
Both the nurse and the Coach sighed in annoyance before Coach said in a bored tone "She started to run from me, I called out to her and followed her, she began to sway and collapsed before I could reach her. And if you want to know what I did afterwards, I checked her pulse, called an ambulance, got in the ambulance, got in the ambulance with her, answered this questionnaire while in the ambulance, got here, answered this questionnaire again and sat on this chair until you arrived."
"Did you drink this morning?" Sheriff Stilinski questioned, lifting his eyes from the notepad to the Coach, watching as the man's face turned red with anger, Nurse McCall stopped writing down the medical information that she had been doing and stepped closer to the Coach and the Sheriff, her tone annoyed and tired as she claimed "Sheriff, as much as Coach Finstock may drink on occasion," her eyes locked on the Coach.
"He's currently very sober, we did the test." The Sheriff glanced at the nurse for reassurance before writing the information down, giving Coach Finstock a well-deserved break, the two watching as he sat down on the chair that he had previously been sitting down in.
"What can you tell me Melissa?" The Sheriff questioned, turning to the nurse with a tired look on his face, it may only be 10 in the morning but he was already tired, "Well, Coach pointed out upon paramedic arrival that she had blood on her feet which we checked out, she stepped on glass remains on the forest. She has no prints on her body besides the Coaches fingers where he claims he checked her pulse." Melissa explained, earning a small "Told you." from Coach.
Sheriff wrote the information down with a sigh, his hand quickly reaching for his face, his pointer and thumb rubbing his eyes, "There is no match for her fingerprints in the system, which means..." he started, "She was born and raised in isolation." Melissa McCall finished. These cases were usually handed over to the state department and ended with the child being placed in foster care.
"Do you know when she'll wake up?" Sheriff Stilinski inquired, looking down at the unconscious brunette teen, "Hard to say, hours, days, weeks maybe." Melissa replied, a sad look casting over her face, "If and when she wakes up she'll need someplace to stay." Sheriff Stilinski stated, his voice lowering, dragging slightly, "I already have my hands full with Scott and the hospital." Melissa claimed, "And I have the police department and my delinquent," Noah replied "Guess I'll have to call around and see who's available to foster a teen until the state does something."
It would seem that the two had forgotten that Coach was in the room because when he claimed "I can foster her, she can stay with me." both of them jumped, their heads instantly snapping to the man, "I have a room in my house where she can stay." he added as if he was adding positive things to his case. "No offense Coach, but I don't think a young girl should stay with..." Noah started, his voice trailing off as he tried to think of a way who defined Coach Finstock.
"Eccentric alcoholic?" Coach finished, there was no offense in his tone if anything there was only confirmation to what people said behind his back, Melissa McCall and Noah Stilinski included, a guilty look covered the Sheriff's face but before he could say anything Melissa butted in "Actually that may be a great idea."
Both men turned to her with shocked looks, both their faces screaming Really?, "Coach was the one who found her, meaning that when she wakes up and if she recognizes him, she might feel more comfortable with him." she explained, her words rang true but the Sheriff still looked at her like she had three heads, "Well it's not like you're going to have people knocking on your door saying they want a teenager." Melissa argued.
