Chapter Four
Jack-
"Poor boy," A woman sighed, eyeing me as I sat my back against a wall, shivering beside Mac, who was asleep. They put out the fire after an officer asked them to, leaving us to the freezing night. The woman stopped in front of me, a man - presumably her husband - stopping alongside her, clearly not as sympathetic as her. She was about to give me a twenty, when the man grabbed her wrist and ushered her away. "But Tom, he needs some money!"
"He'll probably spend it on drugs, love. Why else would he be out here?" He persuaded her, causing her to fall silent. Of course they didn't think outside the box and wonder if I happened to have runaway from another country to flee the wrath of my abusive parents who weren't going to let me leave.
I shivered and tried my best to warm up, but nothing seemed to work. I wish I brought a blanket with me before I ran away, it would have done wonders, considering it seems I'm homeless now. I have no idea how to get money, I wasn't sure if anywhere would hire someone who's not an official United States citizen nor has a home or phone - there's no way to even contact me. It all seems hopeless.
"Hey," A voice called and I looked up to see a man in a car, rock music softly playing within it. I wondered if he was talking to me or trying to get the attention of someone else. I looked around to see if anyone else was expecting him. "I'm talking to you, green hair."
"Me?" I spoke up, knowing no one else around had green hair. I had dyed it in order to try and defy my parents, but it only lead up to another beating and getting locked up in the basement for a week.
"Yeah, come here," He instructed and gestured for me to come up to the car. I felt uneasy, but his demanding tone made me obey and I approached the passenger's side. "Get in."
"G-Get in...? Why?" I stuttered, not wanting to hitch a ride with this stranger to who knows where. For all I know, he could think I'm some prostitute or something. I shivered a bit at the thought.
"Because you're cold, now get in," He instructed again and I frowned, slowly opening the passenger's side. "We're getting some food. Come on."
"I-I'm not hungry."
"Well I am," He said and started driving again after I got in the car and closed the door. Why did I do this? "What's your name?"
"Jack," I decided to use my nickname again, feeling it was safer.
"Okay, Jack, how old are you? What are you doing out on the street?" He asked and I sighed, not wanting to explain everything all over again.
"I'm eighteen," I decided to leave it at, deciding not to explain. "What about you? What's your name and age?"
"Where are you from? You have an interesting accent," He instead countered with and I frowned, wondering why he was avoiding my questions.
"Ireland," I briefly answered, not going into detail. He seems sketchy.
"Ireland, huh? Interesting. Well, I'm not hungry anymore, so I'm just going to take you home," He said casually and I stiffened in my seat.
"Stop the car, please," I tried to say calmly, but I'm unsure if it came out the way I wanted it to. I left my backpack by Mac, he'd realize something happened to me. I doubt he'd be able to do much, but it was something. "My bag is back with the others, they'll know if I go missing."
"You might be Irish, but don't consider yourself lucky," He chuckled a bit and turned the car down an empty road that caused the hairs on my arms and neck to stand on end.
"P-Please let me go," I pleaded, unsure of his intentions. He sighed and shook his head.
"You might be the first one I kill at home. That'll be quite the mess," He thought aloud and I felt tears coming into my eyes as I realized who I had gotten into the car with and who had taken an interest in me. I'm scared shitless.
"Y-You're the killer going around, aren't you?" I asked and he laughed.
"Man, I'm surprised. You're brand new to this place and yet you already can tell they weren't random murders. To answer your question, yes," He chuckled and a smile stained his lips. I looked at the door and slowly unlocked it, causing his eyes to snap in my direction. He slammed on the breaks and I nearly slammed my head into the windshield. His angry eyes caused chills to run down my spine. I felt tears coming to my eyes again. "Are you trying to get away, Sean?"
"H-How did you know my name?!" I shrieked and tried to open the door, but he had already locked it again and pulled me onto his lap in his seat. We were in the middle of the road, but he didn't seem to care. I wanted to kick at him, lash out, but I knew I'd lose any fight I try to wage against this guy. I'm much smaller than him and weaker, it was no use. "Let me go, let me go, let me go!"
"Let you go? But we haven't had any fun yet!" He gasped, as though what I said was disgraceful or foul and wrapped his hands around my throat, beginning to squeeze. I wheezed, my lungs begging for air, when he suddenly released me. I gasped and greedily inhaled as much air as I could. "Would you prefer to have our fun later?"
"I-I..." I trailed off, unsure what to say. I didn't know what this man meant by 'fun' and I certainly didn't want to find out.
"I won't play with you yet if you agree to one thing," He said and slowly released me. I retreated back to my seat, trembling. He gave me a small smile and started driving again. "You stay with me."
