Chapter 4

"We THOUGHT slavery was a thing of the past.

We haven't been paying attention."

Chantal followed the guard along with the dog outside the building she was previously in. She looked around for Biggs but saw no sign of him. She laughed dryly in her mind.

The guard went around to a back entrance that led to the same place she was just in.

The guard looked behind him at Chantal, "You are cleared now to board the plane Chantal," he said to her.

"Huh? I... I don't understand..." Chantal started with a confused expression.

"There's no need to worry. You won't be found out now that I carried you past the security checkpoint," he explained smiling down at her.

"I'm confused, how... how do you know my name?" she questioned timidly.

"Anyone who carries those babies inside them is automatically known to me," the guard replied with a cheesy grin.

"Thanks?" Chantal replied not sure if she should be grateful or not.

"The duty is mine," the guard replied while saluting.

Chantal just offered something between an unsure smile and a half-smile that it came out almost like a grimace. She slowly turned around and walked towards the entrance of the plane.

She handed her ticket to the air hostess who tore off a piece and handed her back her ticket. Another led her towards her seat which was close to the bathroom but at the window.

A few seconds later a man came and sat beside her. She looked up at the person surprised to see that it was Bigga in the flesh.

"I... I thought you had run off," Chantal said to Bigga when she built up enough courage to confront him on his disappearance.

"No, I didn't. Had some business to take care off," he replied cryptically.

'He didn't even tell me he was coming too.'

"Ladies and gentlemen, please put your seatbelts on. We are about to take off," the voice of an air hostess sounded over the intercom.

Chantal quickly buckled herself in and looked to her left and saw that Bigga hadn't buckled himself in. Under normal circumstances, she would have asked why but decided against it.

Two hours into the flight, an air hostess came to their seat.

"Would you like anything to eat or drink, ma'am, sir?" the flight attendant asked displaying an array of food on a rather long tray.

"I'll take the sandwich," Bigga replied, "but she's allergic to all the food here," he lied.

Chantal's face immediately contorted into one of shock. Was he trying to starve her? The answer was beyond her.

Bigga peeled away the saran wrap from around the sandwich and took a huge bite from it.

"Can't have you eating then end up giving birth in the bathroom," he explained to her, his mouth stuffed with the sandwich.

Giving birth? she thought to herself. Oh, he must have been referring to the drugs.

The thought repulsed her. How dear he thinks she had to use the bathroom each time she drank or ate something! Not even the water he was going to allow her to have.

One of the perks of being a slave, she thought sarcastically.

She shuffled over to the corner of her seat that was beside the window. She took her bag and placed it at her head as a makeshift pillow.

Closing her eyes, Chantal slowly drifted off to sleep dreaming of the 'wonderful' adventures that awaited her in China.

Phew! Thank God she didn't get caught! Anyone else happy that she wasn't caught? Poor Chantal is one of the many victims of human trafficking. What are your thoughts on trafficking persons?

One more thing before you go...
