Chapter 16
Human trafficking is a crime against humanity.
We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop
this crime that's become ever more aggressive,
that threatens not just individuals, but
the foundational values of society.
~ Pope Francis
Kabe slowly took a step back.
"Who the hell are you?" Kabe answered with venom in his voice.
The person at the door cocked their gun ready to fire. In one swift motion Kabe grabbed the person's wrist and the butt of the gun then twisted the wrist so hard it almost broke but in the process disarming the person. Then in a quick flip of his wrist, Kabe had the gun pointed at the man at the door.
"I said; who, are, you?" Kabe questioned through clenched teeth.
"Woah bro!" the man at the door exclaimed raising his hands in the air.
"Five seconds and I'll pull the trigger! One!"
"Take it easy man Kill Shot!"
"Two!"
"It's me man!"
"Three!"
"It's Zee!"
"Four!"
"For peanut butter, jelly sandwich and fish sticks bean put the gun down!" the man shouted sweat pouring down his face.
Kabe's finger slowly pulled down on the trigger.
"Five!"
"It's just make-up!"
"I know," Kabe replied.
"So why for peanut jam's sake you did that for!" the man shouted.
"Why for kryptonite's sake did you put a gun in my face in my own house?" Kabe asked calmly spinning the gun on his pointer finger.
"I thought it would be funny," the man replied.
"For who? You or me?" Kabe smirked.
"Gimme that!" the man said then made a grab for the gun.
Kabe then raised it up and then as if talking to a little child wagged his finger in the man's face, "Nah ah! What should say?"
The man sighed in defeat, "Please," then held his hand out. Kabe then dropped the gun in his palm.
"HQ said to give you these things," the man said as he walked to his car, Kabe following.
He then flew his trunk open, revealing two sliver plastic cases. Kabe flipped the cases open and found a plastic human sized left hand in one and a right hand in the other.
"Why would they trust a doctor with these?" Kabe asked knowing he was pushing the man's buttons.
"What'd you just say?" the man questioned pushing himself up on Kabe trying to give off the intimidating vibe.
"I said they forgot to send the vaccines."
"Oh I thought so."
"Come to think of it," Kabe began stepping back from the door and folding his arms, "I just came off the phone with you, so how are you here already?"
"Oh that's easy!" he started to flip the cases back closed, "I was already heading here to drop off these babies when you rung and then I was like 'Hmmm what an awesome prank!' "
Kabe then slapped him square in his head back, "For a doctor you sure love giving people heart attacks, Robert."
"Whatever," he replied lazily as he stepped into the house with Kabe.
"Leave 'em here and follow me to your next patient."

Chantal awoke to a hand that felt as if it was caressing her back. Well at least her shoulder where the brand was placed. She then felt a cool sensation at that same spot and she sighed internally.
Then her self protective instincts kicked in and she flipped onto her back quickly. She grabbed on to the branded spot and felt something there and held onto it tightly. She then opened her eyes.
There staring at her with surprised eyes was a muscular man filled with tattoos up the length of his arms that were bulging with veins.
Without a second thought, Chantal let out an earsplitting scream which made the man jump back pulling Chantal along as she held on firmly to his arm.
Within seconds Kabe rushed into the room.
"What did you do to her!" Kabe shouted at Robert.
"Nothing! I... I.. just rubbed the gel on her back and the next thing I know she's squeezing my arm and screaming murder!"
During Robert's explanation Chantal had gotten up and ran over to Kabe in the doorway.
"You said I'd be safe!"
Kabe looked down at Chantal and saw the misery in her eyes so he held on to her shoulders to ease her worry.
"You are safe here. He's just a doctor, Doctor Robert and he'll be taking care of you for just a while," Kabe said comfortingly.
Chantal turned and looked at Robert and then turned back to Kabe, "Can you stay? I don't trust him."
Kabe looked over to Robert with a look that asked if it was okay to which Robert nodded.
After her ten minute examination which consisted of Robert asking her questions and rubbing of ointments where necessary he was done. He gave her a list of medications to take and foods to eat.
DING - DONG!
"I'll go and get it," Kabe said getting up to leave.
"Who are you really?" Chantal asked Robert, "You're not one of them, are you?"
"No I'm not," Robert said in a reassuring voice.
"So why all the tattoos? I've never seen a doctor with tattoos."
"Well I'm not the type of doctor that stays in the office yah know? I'm what I call a field doctor. I take care of the idiots that get them self hurt while on a mission and I'm also the tech guy."
"So you're an FBI agent too?"
"Yup."
"So you're here to help?"
"Yes. As a matter of fact I brought some cameras that can be hidden in some of the girls' rooms to collect evidence and some recording devices that you can wear and also plant on the persons involved in the ring."
"So you are for real?"
Robert chuckled at her suspicion of him.
"Yes I am. You know I've never been one to be considered a suspect before."
"Well you are until proven innocent by me," Chantal said firmly.
"You got that saying all twisted dear," Robert chuckled, "but it doesn't matter you'll have enough evidence soon to prove me innocent. I'll be joining your little trio."
"What! Kabe didn't tell me that!"
"I know," Robert replied in a smarty pants voice, "He doesn't know yet."
"Who the hell are you?" a voice asked from the door.
It was Lizzy who looked pretty flustered at the sight of Robert.
"I'm Doctor Robert."
Lizzy burst into laughter, "That's a good one! I'd believe you if you said an ex-convict!"
"It's true," Chantal defended Robert.
"Really?" Lizzy said doubtfully while walking over to him and then poking him in his biceps, "Hmm seems legit," Lizzy said then moved on to grab one of his biceps trying to squeeze it.
Chantal seeing the discomfort on his face laughed at him.
"Woah! Liz! What you doing girl?" Kabe questioned walking in.
"Does it look to you like I'm doing something bad?" Lizzy responded harshly.
"He said he's joining the team," Chantal blurted out like a little kid.
At that Lizzy dropped her hand off Robert.
"No point in me trying to change your mind Rob so I won't even bother. Just make sure to drop by to go over the plan."
"Sure thing. I'll be leaving now," Robert said as he walked out the room, "I'll just buy her meds when I'm coming over, just ensure you give her some meat and vegetables to eat."
"Okay thanks bro."
"No need."
Robert left but Kabe didn't follow him out. Robert, a frequent visitor to his home, knew his way inside and out. He even knew how to lock the door without being inside the house and not having a key.
"I bought clothes for you, hopefully they can fit," Lizzy said handing a bag over to Chantal.
"Thank you," Chantal said softly accepting the bag.
"Excuse me," Kabe said as he felt his phone vibrating in his back pocket.
He stepped out into the hallway and pulled his phone. It was an unknown number calling.
"Hello?"
"Is this Bob?" a muffled voice asked.
"Yes."
"We're having a meet up at the diner on Friday and bring your girlfriend with you," the muffled voice instructed.
"What time?"
"Nine P. M. sharp. Don't be late or you'll be paying the dinner bill," the muffled voice said then disconnected the call.
Let me first apologise for not updating Friday. My internet has been down from Wednesday. Hopefully I'll be able to update again by Wednesday-Friday so I left a semi cliffhanger for you all.
I love you all so much for continuing to read this book. I have question though is there any improvements do you see that needs to be made to this book going forward?
