Chapter Eight

Roman woke up slightly panicked, the feelings of arms wrapped around his body causing him to momentarily freak out. Once he looked to his sides and saw the sleeping faces of his closest friends, he relaxed immediately with a soft smile. He laid awake for a bit, just finding comfort in his friends' warm embrace. Eventually, he felt Logan start to stir lightly. His blue eyes fluttered open and looked up at Roman with a soft smile. "Good morning Ro," he whispered. Roman smiled back, acknowledging him. Roman expected Logan to get out of bed or curl up with the sleeping Patton next to him. However, he didn't expect the boy to lay back on his chest and hug onto him lightly. After his slight shock passed, Roman wrapped his arm around Logan's waist, using his other hand to comb through the boy's hair softly. Logan hummed, relaxing even further. Roman noted how lucky he felt getting to see Logan so calm and laid back.

Soon, Virgil started to wake slowly. Upon opening his eyes, he groaned loudly and scooted closer to Roman, curling up to his side. Roman chuckled quietly before wrapping his arm around Virgil, now cradling both boys on either side of him. When Patton woke and sat up, Roman could help but feel a twinge if guilt when he saw the slight sadness in his eyes. He didn't mean to leave Patton out, this all happened because of sleepy actions. So he didn't hesitate when he motioned for Patton to come over to him, which the smaller boy did. Removing his arm from around an already sleeping Virgil, Roman pulled Patton down on top of him, laying his head on his chest. Patton smiled softly at the action, relaxing quickly. "Thanks Ro," Patton whispered. Roman replaced his arm around the emo, closing his eyes and reveling in the warmth he felt both from the bodies surrounding him and in his heart.

When the four finally woke a couple of hours later, they all stayed latched onto each other, not wanting to break the serenity and comfort that they were all feeling. Roman hummed lightly, feeling completely content. The other three couldn't stop the light grin from spreading on their faces upon hearing Roman make a sound, how ever slight.

After another twenty minutes, Roman sighed before sitting up, moving the other boys off of him. Patton looked down lightly, showing a hint of sadness in his features. Roman touched Patton's arm lightly and raised an eyebrow. "Was I too heavy? Like did you get up because I was crushing you?" Patton asked softly. Virgil and Logan sat up at this, ready to deny everything Patton had said, when Roman shook his head fiercely, hugging Patton to his chest. Virgil reached over to grab Roman's phone from the bedside table, handing it to him and receiving a grateful look in return. Roman removed one of his arms from around the small boy, typing quickly.

Patton, of course you weren't too heavy. I just needed to text my dads, it didn't have anything to do with you. You're perfect just how you are.

Patton read the message from Roman's phone and couldn't help but engulf the man in another hug, causing him to chuckle but hug back nonetheless. After a couple of seconds, Patton pulled back so that Roman could text his dads. He didn't expect to see a flood of texts from the two of them.

Dad: Roman, I'm so sorry babe but we need you home.
Papa: Roman please come home we need you here right now
Dad: Please read your phone Ro
Papa: We don't know what to do
Dad: Roman please answer
Papa: We need your help

There were more texts sent similar to those, and Roman felt his heart drop. He had to get home right now. Roman grabbed onto Patton's arm and showed him the phone. Patton's eyes widened. "Guys, we have to get Roman home right now." Logan and Virgil both immediately showed concern. "What happened?" Virgil asked quickly. Patton showed them the texts, both of the boys' eyes widening. "Come on, I'll drive you Roman," Logan stated. Roman nodded, panic still shooting through his body as he thought of the horrible possibilities of what had happened last night at his house. "Logan, why don't Virgil and I stay here while you drop him off? I can tell Roman is overwhelmed, and I don't want to overwhelm him more with too many people," Patton offered, whispering in Logan's ear so the other two couldn't hear. Logan nodded. "Let's go," Logan said to Roman, grabbing his keys and slipping on his sneakers. Roman stepped forward and hugged Patton and Virgil tightly, pulling away after a couple of seconds. The two boys' hearts broke a little when they saw the slight fear in Roman's eyes. Roman turned away and pulled on his shoes quickly, feeling his anticipation build. Roman turned back and waved lightly before following Logan out of the house and toward his car. The two piled into the car silently, both unsure of what to say. As Logan drove toward Roman's house, the silence seemed unbearable to him. That is, until he felt a hand grab onto his own. Logan squeezes Roman's hand lightly in an attempt to comfort him. Roman squeezed back, and suddenly the silence didn't seem so awkward.

When they pulled up to the house, Roman's nerves returned. Logan noticed this and squeezed Roman's hand once more before pulling his hand away. "Best of luck, Roman. Please do not hesitate to text me or the other if you require any assistance." Roman nodded before leaning over the center console and hugging Logan tightly. Logan was slightly taken aback, but hugged Roman just as tightly. After about thirty seconds, Roman sighed and pulled away. He stepped out of the car and walked to his front door, turning back to wave at Logan. Once Logan had driven away, Roman turned back to his front door. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and opened the door.

Upon entering the house, Remy ran up to Roman quickly. "Thank god you're here, Ro." Roman looked at him with confusion on his face. "Remus had another night terror last night about you. When he woke up and you weren't here, he had a full blown melt down. We couldn't get him to stop screaming and sobbing for hours. Emile just got him to calm down about an hour ago, but he's still a crying mess. You need to go see him, Roman." Roman ran past his dad and straight for his brother's room. He opened the door quickly, feeling his heart break at the sight. Remus was curled up in Emile's arms, sobbing quietly. Roman walked toward the bed, carefully placing his hand on Remus' shoulder. Remus looked up at him with tearful eyes, realizing that it was really Roman standing in front of him before launching himself in his brother's arms. Roman held him tightly, shushing him softly. Emile stood and left the room, leaving the two boys alone. "I-I thought y-you w-were d-dead and it was j-just like w-when I f-found y-you-" Roman shushed the almost hysterical Remus. Roman sat on the bed next to Remus, holding him tightly in an attempt to calm him down. After a few minutes, his sobs subsided to slight sniffles. The pair sat there silently. Roman's guilt was eating him alive. It's all my fault. If I would've stayed home then I could've been here for Remus. Hell, all of this is my fault! He wouldn't be having these night terrors if it weren't for- Roman was pulled from his thoughts as Remus leaned more heavily on Roman, his breathing evening out. He had fallen into a much needed sleep. Roman laid him on the bed lightly before pulling the blanket over him and leaving the room quietly.

Roman could've drowned in the amount of guilt in self hatred he was feeling. At this point, he wished he would.
