Chapter Two

Amber's POV
We got to the stadium, where they were going to be performing, and I was wearing my necklace and bracelet by the time we pulled into a parking space.

"One more thing I may have slightly forgotten to mention to you." Katelyn said. I looked at her, a little confused.
"I may have gotten VIP tickets, so we get to do front row, and we'll get about a twenty-five minute private meet-and-greet with all the artists here tonight. How does that sound?" I nearly screamed, hugging her. This was the best birthday ever. We got in line, and she handed me my ticket, and fifteen minutes later, we were in our front row seats, waiting for the concert to start. We had about a half hour before the concert was going to start, so I checked my phone and saw I had a text from Hanna.

H- did you find out what you're doing yet?
A- yeah. We're at a For King and Country concert, and we're going to dinner after! I can't believe this!
H- sweet! I'm actually going to get an aid fitted for me tomorrow.
A- Cool. Do you know what Conor's doing?
H- yes, but he told me I can't tell. Gotta go. Piper and Jesse are waiting for me.
A- see ya.
H- bye.

As soon as I put my phone away, Joel came out onstage, and got a microphone.

"Alright, well then. Now, where are we again? On yes, Richmond. Well, we have someone special performing tonight. You may know her, and love her music, but I might have you beat. I love her and her music both. Ladies and gentlemen, Moriah Peters." I gasped, jumping, and I heard Katelyn laughing as she came out onstage. Joel gave her a quick kiss as he headed back offstage. She turned to us, smiling and slightly blushing.
"Okay then, just so you know and so there are no false rumors going around, my maiden name is Peters. My married name is Smallbone, since Joel is my husband." Her last words were drowned out by the cheering. After a couple minutes, the cheering died down, and she started talking again.

"Alright then, this first song is the title song of my new album, Brave. After this one, I have a very special song, called I'll Wait for You." She did Brave, and then Joel came back up and did I'll Wait for You. She performed I Choose Jesus, Stand Strong, and I Don't Want to Live for Me, and then For King and Country came up and performed Fix my Eyes, Proof of Your Love, Ceasefire, and Priceless. Then, it got really dark, and we heard a gunshot noise, and we saw flames, which scared me half to death, and I may have screamed when we heard that noise.... Anyway, Skillet came up, and did Monster, One Day Too Late, Rise, and Fire and Fury. Then, Luke came up, and performed Comatose with Skillet, which, quite frankly, was amazing. Then, I was shocked again by Colton Dixon coming up and he did Back to Life, More of You, Never Gone, You Are with Moriah, and he did Scars. I had never actually heard that song before, and I found myself thinking about the scars that I had given myself from that cutting that I did. I looked at Katelyn, and she was crying too. She had a pretty rough background, but all I knew was her parents had been abusive. Each band did eight or nine more songs, and some they mixed up the artists with it. Then, the final song was For King and Country's It's Not Over Yet, and Moriah, Colton, and Skillet did it with them, which was amazing! I looked at the time, and it was six-thirty. Wow. Time flies when you're at a concert like this. We got to tour backstage, and then we had our meet-and-greets.

Joel's POV
I looked at the sheet of paper in my hand, and nodded slightly.
"We've got two more people, and they're together. Ummm....two young ladies." Luke nodded, and Thomas led two young ladies in. One looked about twenty, and the other sixteen. We shook hands with them, and sat down. There was an awkward silence for a moment, and then the older girl spoke.

"Well, one of us has to break the ice here. I'm Katelyn, and this is Amber. We actually met about two years ago, and her coming here was a birthday present from me and some from my brother." I chuckled slightly.
"Well, Amber, Happy birthday. So question for you two. Are you related, because you look like sisters?" Amber smiled sadly.
"No. I wish, though. She was the one who first introduced me to your music. We met when she moved to the group home that I'm at right now." She must've noticed my confused look, because she gave another sad smile and continued.

"My dad left when I was four years old, and my mom committed suicide when I was ten years old. I'm an orphan. I've been in and out of foster homes, and I- I was abused at the last few that I was at. It's been seven months since I've had anyone even consider fostering me. I have struggled with depression and cutting for about two years now. No one wants a 'problem teen' like me." Katelyn nodded grimly.

"I'm kind of similar. I turned eighteen six months ago, before anyone adopted me, so the only family I have is my brother, Amber, and my church family. When I was nine, my parents started getting drunk, and they would beat me and cut me. I got them to leave my brother alone, which was why I didn't go to the police until I was fourteen. They would beat me up, and sometimes even knock me out, and then they would take that as an opportunity to beat him up as well." She must've noticed my shocked look, because she shook her head sadly.

"Every day, I pray that someone will be able to reach them with the gospel. If they hadn't done that to me, I might've never found Christ, because the social worker I had taught me about him, and my brother and I both accepted him." I shook my head gently, wiping a couple years out of my eyes.

"Wow. God can and will use any circumstance to bring people to him. That's amazing. I noticed you both have the bracelets as well." Amber smiled.
"I really appreciate what you're doing with this, because we've both seen how bad it can get, especially in the foster system. I had a foster father who abused me and his wife and said he could get away with it and we couldn't tell anyone, because he was in charge, since he was the man there, and if we did, he had some pretty awful threats up his sleeve. So, I ran away." I nodded.

"God used that to show you he was in control, didn't he?" She nodded.
"Yes. The hardest thing is, since I've been through so much, no one wants to adopt me. If I turn eighteen, then I will have to survive the rest of my life without a family. I'll legally be an adult, and if you're legally an adult, you're too old to be adopted, so..." Luke straightened, scooting his chair closer.

"Well, can we pray with you?" He asked. She nodded, and we all bowed our heads and held hands.

" Heavenly father, we come to you right now with Amber, God, you know what she's been through, and you know what else she has coming in her life. God, I pray that if it is your will, you would lead someone into her life that would love her for who she is, and help her to see that no matter what happens to her in the future, you know what you're doing. Thank you for the opportunity we had to meet these young ladies, and thank you for what you have already done in their lives. Amen." We all opened our eyes, and Amber had tears in her eyes, but she was smiling. Katelyn pulled her phone out of her pocket.

"Okay, would you mind if Amber got a picture with you two?" I looked at Luke, and he grinned, nodding. All four of us got up, and Luke and I stood on either side of Amber, who still looked like she couldn't believe she was actually here. After the pictures were taken, Luke and I signed the cds for her. After I said goodbye to Amber I went over to Katelyn, and spoke quietly.

"Will you write down the name of the group home that Amber's at?" She nodded.
"Yes. I actually have to only give you the website address, and you have to fill something out to be able to come pick someone up or something....I don't know. Its confusing." She wrote something down on a piece of paper.
"Just be careful," she said, slipping it into my hand.
"Her social worker fights pretty hard to keep her put of Christian homes, but if you can prove you have a safe and strong home, you'll win." I thanked her, smiling broadly. Moriah and I can prove we have a safe home, I just had to talk to Moriah about fostering Amber now.

Moriah's POV
I met Amber and Katelyn, and I nearly sobbed when I heard what they had been through. When I heard Amber was an orphan, I felt a tug on my heart, and when I got back to the buses, I found Joel on the laptop, looking something up, and he was muttering and smacking the computer. He was on a website that had information about....Amber? I sat down beside him, making him scoot over.

"What are you doing?" He jumped, nearly dropping the laptop.
"I- I was hoping that since we only have a week left on the tour, when we get back, we could, maybe, foster her?" I gasped, and he winced.
"Sorry, I was just hoping-" I kissed him.
"I love the idea! I felt like we needed to do something about that. Ever since Joran- well, he would want to do something too. I just, I fell in love with her the moment I met her. We can send in the paperwork, and she should be able to come live with us when we get back to Nashville." He smiled, pulling papers out of the printer and handing them to me.

"We just have to fill these out. Katelyn warned me that the social worker fights to keep her out of christian homes, but she said if we can prove we have a safe and strong home environment, we'll win the case." I nodded, smiling gently.
"When we get home, I'll work on getting the spare bedroom, and I'll get it ready for her. I know she's a teenager, but if we can adopt her...." He smiled.
"I'm looking forward to this, but as you know, it will be tough at first. She's been in some rough places, so it'll be hard for her to trust us at first." I nodded, and started for bed. It had been a long day, but it was worth it.
