⎒ Mirror ⎒
I didn't exactly know what was happening. I was staring up at the clouds. It was nighttime, the sky the exact perfect shade of navy blue that I loved. It had started to lightly rain.
The droplets were no bigger than my fingernail (the whole part, not just the dead bit at the end). They pelted my bare skin. It seemed like the perfect time to be cold. But I felt perfect, like the temperature was just right.
I don't know why. I was wearing a white T-shirt, white jeans, and white sneakers. My hair swayed in the wind, and from what I saw, it was platinum blond.
I was stranded in the middle of a huge plain field. Grass littered the floor. Like a meadow.
Except in place of the flowers were strange orbs. They glowed different colours.
I walked through the meadow, cautiously, as the rain pelted my pale skin over and over, almost in a rhythm. The wind whipped my hair, and I kept hearing a strange soundtrack in my mind. With words. "The silence is so, loud..."
I came up to a barn. It was red, with brown lining. It was made of wood. I wanted to escape the rain, so I went inside.
As I entered, the storm got worse. I don't know why. But now I felt cold.
The wind shrieked and the rain battered the barn's tin roof.
I rubbed my hands up and down on my arms, trying to create a spark of warmth.
I heard a noise to my left. I whipped around, searching. "Who's there?" I asked.
It was a few moments.
Then, the girl came out.
She was wearing a black, long sleeved shirt, with black jeans and black sneakers. Her long hair was as dark as a raven's wing.
"What are you doing here?" She asked - her voice sounded like she was trying to sound brave, angry even, but I heard a young, frightened girl under her harsh tone.
"I wanted to escape the rain," I explained.
We walked up to each other, and for the first time I saw how her eyes were impossibly black, like voids.
"What's your name?" I asked in a friendly voice.
She never took her eyes off mine. "They call me Void," she answered.
"My name is Purity," I told her.
She cocked her head as if confused. "Why are your eyes so white? You look like a ghost."
Caught off guard, I replied, "Well, I don't really know. If it isn't offensive... um... why are your eyes black? I've never met anyone with eyes as black as yours before."
Void turned around. "The wind's letting up."
I turned around too, and saw she was right. The wind had almost disappeared, and the rain had lightened back down to a dull patter.
Awkward, I asked, "should I uh... go?"
"No!" Void said hastily, making room on the floor. "Please," she added sincerely. "I-... I've never had a friend before."
I felt a pang of sadness for her.
"It's okay, Void," I smiled. "We can be friends."
"Promise?" She took my hand in hers and locked eyes with me.
I returned her warm smile.
"Promise."
