Four: College
"I should've studied to be a teacher," Seokjin groused. He was sitting at a small diner with Anna and her friend Min Yoongi. The diner was close to campus, so they often went there to have a quick meal or cup of coffee. Anna had chosen a scholarship to the same college where Seokjin was majoring in acting, so their friendship was still as strong as ever.
Yoongi, who was in the College of Education with Anna, snorted. "A teacher? Bro, if I looked like you, I would definitely not be a teacher. You were meant to be on the screen."
"Just be patient. Things will get better," Anna said. She glanced at Yoongi. "Although I don't know what this guy means. I'm sure your future female students will fall desperately in love with you, Yoongi."
"That's not reassuring," Yoongi grumbled. "I'd rather not end up in prison, thank you."
She turned back to Seokjin. "Anyway, Jin, how bad could things really be? We all knew that college would be difficult. You knew how competitive it would be in the acting department. Why so pessimistic all of a sudden?"
Seokjin swirled the coffee in his cup. "It's not all of a sudden. I am the only senior who has not been cast in anything yet--well, only crowd scenes. I've been to numerous casting calls and auditions. I always think I've made an impression, but then I get an email or a call saying that I'm not what they're looking for. They cite my lack of experience, but are not willing to give me a part and let me get experience."
Anna gave him a warm smile. "Don't let it get you down. Maybe they're intimidated by your looks. Some people can be petty when it comes to things like that. I'm sure your big break is just around the corner. Don't give up."
Yoongi sipped his coffee. "She's right. I'm sure all aspiring actors go through the same thing. It's only a matter of time. Besides, at the end of the day, you have that face. Who's the real winner here?"
Seokjin chuckled and shook his head. "I hope you're right." He grabbed his wallet and placed a few bills on the table. "I've got to get back for my next class. I have to catch a bus to Woodland Park. We're doing an improv exercise out there."
"Want me to come with?" Anna asked. "I'm done for the day. My shift doesn't start until 6."
He shook his head. "Thanks, but you should rest before work. You're running yourself ragged, and I worry about you. Look at how pale and skinny you look. Besides, I don't know how long we'll take. Call me tonight when you get home. Bye, Annie. See ya, Yoongi."
Anna watched him walk away, aware that all the females in the diner were also staring at him. Seokjin attracted every eye everywhere he went. Good thing that they were just friends, or else she might feel jealous.
