Chapter Twenty Four

Mia woke up with a pounding headache. She looked around to find herself in the same old warehouse. Mia's mouth opened involuntarily when she looked at her phone. It was already 4:00 am.

Mia changed out of the outfit quickly and ran out to her car. She got in quickly and started driving back home. Luckily, it didn't take too long and soon she was home. She snuck into the house quietly before making her way to her room. When she got in, she had to actually drag herself over to her bed.

Before she had even fallen asleep, her alarm rang. Groaning, she sat up. She walked over to her bathroom and took a shower before changing into her outfit. Some jean shorts and a simple short sleeved t-shirt.

Mia made her way downstairs before grabbing a banana and her backpack. "Tori!" she called, "You ready yet!?"

"Yeah, just a sec!"

"Hurry up!"

"I'm coming, geez!"

Tori scrambled down the stairs looking perfect as usual. Mia opened the door and made her way through their driveway to the car. She got in and waited for Tori who hopped inside seconds later.

"You okay?" she asked.

Mia thought about everything that had happened. No. She wasn't okay.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she lied, plastering her best fake smile onto her face.

Tori rolled her eyes but went along with it. "Okay, then."

Soon enough, they had arrived at the most dreaded place in Mia's mind. Ever.

School. Now, look. Mia didn't mind going to school. In fact, she loved it. Learning new things and reading books was awesome. But today was different. After the events of last night, Mia didn't know how she was going to get through the day. And she definitely did not want to see Charlie.

Luck wasn't on her side today. But really, when was it? As she walked down the hall towards her locker, she could see Charlie leaning against it. She sighed. I'll have to break up with him sometime, she thought. Why not now?

Too soon though, she was there. "Hey babe," he greeted and suddenly, all thoughts of breaking up with this perfect boy flew out of her mind. How could anyone do that to someone so beautiful? So perfect.

"Hey," Mia breathed, looking up into his beautiful blue eyes. He leaned down to kiss her.

She accepted eagerly, wrapping her arms around his neck. Eventually, like the humans they were, they had to breathe. Mia pulled away first although it was reluctant. Had it been up to her, she would've kept kissing him forever.'

The bell rang, breaking up the couple. "I'll see you at lunch," Mia said sorrowfully as she walked towards her first class. Mia sat down in her usual seat and waited for the lesson to begin.

By lunch, Mia was starting to wonder why she had kissed Charlie. But as soon as she saw him, all of those thoughts were pushed out of her mind. She wrapped her arms around his neck and he kissed her again. She would never get used to his perfect lips on hers.

"Hey," she greeted breathlessly.

"Hey," he replied. She looked into his eyes before leaning in once again to kiss him. Normally, she would have cared that they were in the middle of the cafeteria and anyone who wanted to could definitely watch them but with Charlie, all thoughts left her mind except for how much she loved him.

Mia pulled away to think. Wait... what? Did I just admit that I love him? Mia wondered. Nope, not possible. Only known him for like, one month. I do not love him. Even as she said the words, however, she could tell that they were lies.

"You okay there, Mia?" Charlie asked.

Mia nodded lightly. "Let's go sit down," she suggested, pointing to the table with Bella and Drew. And Blake.

She sucked in a breath at the sight of him. She knew that she couldn't avoid him forever; she just really didn't want to talk to him.

Mia sat down next to Bella with Charlie by her side. She hadn't told him about the fight last night and she didn't plan to but it was very awkward. Bella coughed when she saw Mia holding hands with Charlie. "Mia, can we talk for a sec?" she asked, standing up even before Mia had answered and dragging her with her.

"Okay?"

"Are you and Charlie... together?" she asked, disappointment clear in her tone.

"Yeah," Mia responded, a blush visibly tinting her cheeks.

She looked really disappointed but a small smile coated her lips. "Are you happy? I mean, does he make you happy?"

Mia thought about it. "I don't know. When I'm around him I feel so... attracted to him. Like I never want to leave him. Like he's just this perfect angel. But then when I'm not around him, I wonder why I'm with him. Why I don't just break up with him," Mia confessed. "You know?"

"I don't think that that's a healthy relationship. I think that you're physically attracted to him but not mentally. I think that you like someone else but you can't bring yourself to hurt anyone. I don't know. That's just my opinion."

Mia thought this over. She didn't know what to think. She couldn't deny that she only thought of him as a friend right now, but would that change when she was in his presence?

"I don't know Bella," she admitted, resting her forehead in the palm of her small hand. "Even if I didn't like him, I don't think I could break up with him."

"It'll be okay," she comforted. "Why don't we just go back to the table?" she suggested.

Mia nodded, unable to speak. They walked back to the table where Mia sat down, once again, next to Charlie. "I missed you," he whispered, kissing Mia's cheek.

"I missed you too," she giggled, her love for him overthrowing any other thoughts.

Bella looked between the two strangely before shrugging and turning back to Drew. "I have to go to the bathroom," Charlie sighed, standing up from his spot.

"Don't go," Mia whined, the thought of his absence making her sad.

"I'll be back," he responded, walking away.

Mia turned her attention to the table to see Blake. She thought he would be glaring at her but he just looked hurt and broken. "We should train today," she suggested in a hushed whisper.

He smiled sadly before nodding. "Sounds good." Mia felt relief flood her when she realized he wasn't mad. She never wanted Blake to be mad at her.

After school was finished, Mia was exhausted. She started walking towards her car before remembering that she was gonna train.

Knowing she would carpool with Blake, she walked over to her sister who was standing on the walkway, talking to a group of friends, one of which was a boy around Tori's age who had a hand wrapped around Tori's waist. Mia felt a surge of joy rush through her and walked towards Tori faster.

"Hey there, little sis," Mia greeted, grabbing the kids hand and shoving it away from Tori's waist.

Tori groaned. "Hey, Mia," she grunted.

"So... who's this?" she asked, looking over at the boy and giving him a smile.

Mia saw Tori's cheeks turn a soft shade of crimson as she mumbled a response that Mia couldn't make out. "I'm sorry what?"

Tori sighed. "Mia, meet Liam. Liam, this is my sister, Mia."

Mia saw Liam tense up at the introduction. "Hello, Mia. It's nice to meet you," he greeted. She could tell that he was nervous. He was being way too formal as he held out his hand to shake. Mia laughed lightly before shaking his hand.

"Just because I'm a slightly protective older sister doesn't mean I'm going to bite you." He let out a sigh of relief. "Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I'm gonna try literature club at the library again. Do you think you could get a ride?" she asked.

"Sure."

She looked over at Liam and was about to speak when Mia cut her off. "Not him," she told them. "Just because I'm not gonna hurt him or get way too overprotective doesn't mean that I'm okay with you two being in the same car together for who knows how long."

"Fine," Tori sighed, a teasing grin on her face. "I'll get a ride from Claire."

"Good. I'll see you at like 7:00 or 8:00," Mia said before hugging Tori and walking over to Blake, who was standing near his car talking to Drew.

Suddenly, Charlie was in front of her. She instantaneously smiled, thoughts of him filling her mind. He greeted her with a kiss and she eagerly accepted, wrapping her arms around his neck as she had now done countless times. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her impossibly closer. She never got butterflies like she did when she kissed Blake but that didn't mean the kiss wasn't good. Because oh boy was it good.

When he pulled away, Mia groaned. "Want to hang out?" he asked, a smile tugging on his soft lips.

Mia pouted, remembering that she was training. "I can't," she mumbled sadly. "I have to train at Blake's house," she told him.

"Oh..." he responded. He rested his forehead on hers and pulled her closer, clutching her waist tightly. "I don't want you to go," he whined.

Mia laughed before pulling away. "I know. I don't want to go either but if I want to get anywhere, I do need to train," she chuckled.

"Okay," he sighed. "Well, I'll see you tomorrow then. Bye, babe."

Mia pouted before waving goodbye and walking closer to Blake's convertible. He grunted when she arrived and they both sat down inside the car. "Are you ready to train?" he asked.

"Yeah," she responded, remembering how lucky she was that she had remembered to tuck her suit back into her backpack.

"Awesome," was his only response as he pulled out of the parking lot and onto the busy street.

***

When Mia and Blake arrived, they went straight to the gym/training area when Mia realized that she had to change and walked over to the guest room. The same room that she'd stayed in for weeks. She felt memories flutter around in her mind.

Waking up so many times to see Blake staring at her.

Blake helping her get out of bed.

Blake reading to her.

But mostly, she remembered Blake comforting during her nightmares. They hadn't disappeared but she never bothered to tell anyone. It wouldn't do anything to help her or them so why bother?

As she changed, she thought about everything that had happened since she'd moved. A lot had changed. Not only had she gotten powers, but she also started to get feelings for not one, but two people, gotten attacked three-four times? She wasn't completely sure how many times she'd gotten attacked but it had been a lot. Not only that, but she almost talked to her mom, she was starting to get these weird memory hallucination thingys, and she got a boyfriend. A lot had changed.

When Mia had finished changing into her suit, leaving out the mask and hair clip, she walked out of the room and back towards the training area.

When she got into the room to see Blake on his phone. "Hey," she greeted, walking towards the big empty room where she trained her actual powers. She'd ran around that warehouse blasting lightning everywhere a lot last night, trying to rid herself of thoughts about Blake.

Needless to say, she was tired of running so decided to skip that exhausting part. Instead, she just walked inside and started trying to control her powers. She'd made another goal last night. She was going to use her powers without using her emotions. It just wasn't safe. If she was only able to control her emotions when she was super emotional, how did she know she wouldn't just make some drastic decision that she would regret later.

Mia took a deep breath through her nose and out through her mouth before shaking everything out. She shut off her mind, focusing solely on the lightning. She concentrated on the feeling she'd felt yesterday. Not the emotions, but the physically feeling. She tried to tap into it. Maybe, if she could feel that again, she could create lightning the same way she had last night.

To her surprise, seconds, yes, seconds later, lightning was shooting out of her fingertips. She directed it towards the ceiling. It was definitely harder to control than to create but even just the fact that she'd been able to do it was a lot of progress. She let it die out quickly, unable to hold it for too long.

For once, she was actually proud of herself. Over the past few weeks, all she'd felt was shame and disappointment so it was a nice break from the constant pain she felt under the fake smiles and laughs. She held onto that feeling with all she could, knowing maybe it was her chance to be happy again.

A/N Okay, tbh, this chapter was so hard to write. I mean, the Charlie scenes are always hard to write but this especially. Oof. Anyway, what do you guys think of Charlie? I know some of you really hate him but I want to hear from all of you. Okay, I'm gonna go now. Hope you like this chapter.

Bye beauties

Xoxo - Abby
