Chapter Seven

Mia woke up with a headache that still lingered from the night before. She had indeed gotten quite the punishment meaning that she was grounded and had to do the dishes for the next month. Luckily, she had been allowed to go to her "club" after school. She had told her father that she had joined the literature club in her school and the kids decided to go out and eat dinner and she had gone with them. He had thankfully believed her and told her that as long as she didn't "go out to dinner" with them without his permission she could continue going to the "meetings."

She had decided to keep the real reasons for her late night adventures from him due to obvious reasons.

After waking up to her alarm chiming she slung her feet over the side and stood up. She walked groggily over to the bathroom before hopping in the shower and turning on the water.

When she was finished with her incredibly soothing shower she changed into an outfit consisting of a pair of shorts and a simple crop-top shirt that helped her with filling some of her lacking confidence. Although Mia had been told countless times that she was gorgeous and all of that stuff but no matter how many people told her that she was beautiful it didn't go through. She always felt insecure and inside she knew that she was just some ugly girl and that when people realized that... they would leave. It's not like it hasn't happened before.

Shaking herself out of the thoughts that continuously crept into her mind, she finished getting ready and ran downstairs to eat breakfast.

Suddenly she remembered that she was getting a ride from Blake. "Shoot! Tori, time to go! I need to tell you something."

"Coming!" Tori responded, already running down the stairs with her cute outfit, perfect makeup, and gorgeous hair. "So, what did you need to tell me?" she asked.

"Ummm... do you care if we get a ride from someone? It's just that I have to do this club thing after school and he's a member too and it would save gas and you could just get a ride back. He's really nice so you don't have to worry about that and you obviously don't have to but he's probably already on his way and I'm sorry I forgot to tell you earlier and you-"

"Jeez, Mia! Will you stop rambling!? I get it and yes I'm fine with it." Mia let out a breath, thankful that Tori was fine with it.

Why was she so worried about this? Why did she care what Tori thought of him?

As her thoughts swirled in a whirlwind of confusion that revolved around that one boy she'd known for such a short time she failed to notice that that same boy had come to the door and Tori had gone to answer it.

"Hey, you're Tori, right?" Mia heard Blake ask faintly.

"Uhh, yeah. You're our ride. Sorry, Mia told me this morning. I'll go get her," she said before walking over to Mia. "He's hot," she whispered, smirking at Mia. Mia was sure that her cheeks were turning a shade of crimson.

"Shut up," she whispered back. "Let's... let's just go," Mia whispered as she grabbed her bag from the seat beside her before running to the door. "Hey, Blake."

"Hey, Mia. You ready?" he asked.

"What does it look like?" Mia responded with a grin.

Blake chuckled. "Okay, then. Well, let's go."

"Perfect," Tori said. "I call shotgun!" she yelled.

"Not how it works!" Mia called back. "I'm older. I get shotgun."

"Yeah, cause that's fair," Tori grumbled.

"You think I care?" Mia responded.

"Well, I was hoping."

"Well, you were wrong," she responded with a smug look.

"Let's just go, I want to get there early so I can talk to Lila."

"Who's Lila?" Mia asked as she stepped into the passenger's side.

"Just somebody I met. She's chill."

"How about me? Am I chill?" Blake asked.

"No way. You are by no means chill. You are like the most not chill person I've ever met," Mia told him.

"Sure," he agreed before turning his head towards Tori and "subtly" shaking his head.

The car started up and then they were off. "Is this a convertible?" she asked. Mia hadn't gotten a good look when she was getting in the car but from the inside, it seemed to be.

"Yep. Why?"

"Just curious." In reality, she wanted the top down but she was kind of scared to ask him for some reason.

Luckily seconds later after a chuckle from Blake, she could feel the air in her face. "Thanks," she said with a blush.

"No problem. I like the top down too," he told her.

Soon enough the music was cranked up. Mia was beginning to relax more as time passed.

She wanted to put her arms up but was kind of scared. "Oh my gosh, Mia! Just do it. Chill out," Tori told her as if she knew what was going through Mia's head.

Deciding to just go with it she threw her arms up in the air and started singing as loud as she could. For once, she was letting go. She was having fun.

Her grin had never been bigger as she sat there with the wind in her face and the sun shining down on her. Mia shut her eyes and let the feeling of sun, wind, and freedom take her away from her problems.

Blake and Tori laughed lightly as Mia continued singing along to some Taylor Swift song and just letting go.

The rest of the day went by fairly quick and soon enough she was on her way to the "literature club" when in reality she was just walking around until everyone else had left. She had mostly just hung out with Blake and she had to admit, she liked hanging out with him a lot.

Eventually, the parking lot was almost empty and Mia deemed it safe to leave.

Walking out the door, she spotted Blake's convertible and hopped in after she had told Tori that she was going to the club and that Tori would need a ride back home from someone else, which she easily got.

"You brought workout clothes again, right?" he asked. Mia answered with a swift nod of her head. "Good."

Mia opened her phone and started looking through some apps before she realized that the car still hadn't started. She turned to look at Blake to find his gaze was already focused on her. "We should probably get going. I want to get as much time in as possible," she told him. It seemed to break him out of his trance as he shook his head and put the car in drive.

"Right, sorry about that," he apologized.

Mia was, however, still curious. "Why were you looking at me like that?" she asked.

"I don't know. Ugh... it's nothing." Although he hadn't quelled her curiosity she let it go and turned back to her phone. She wasn't normally the type of person to be on social media all the time but she couldn't help it. In the past few days, she had realized how nervous she got around Blake.

She continued scrolling when something caught her eye. She looked up quickly when she realized where she was and sure enough, for once, social media was telling the truth.

"Stop the car!" she yelled at Blake. He slammed on the brakes and went to the side of the road on what seemed like instinct.

"What the heck, Mia!? Why would you do that!?" he asked, his voice rising slightly as he looked at her with wide eyes.

Despite the volume of his voice, she could barely hear him as she controlled her breathing before hopping out of the car quickly and running to the place where she saw the terrifying sight.

"Mia! Where are you going!?" Blake yelled after her but she was already too far gone. She could tell that he was running after her but she didn't care. All she cared about was that people were in danger. People needed her help and she was going to give it to them. "Mia, you've got to be kidding me," he told her. It seemed as though he'd realized what she was doing.

"I'm not," she yelled back, still running.

"What are you going to do, huh? That thing is huge and you can barely make a spark." He was starting to catch up to her.

"I'll be fine. I have to do this."

He grabbed her arm. "No!" His words were harsh. Mia didn't like seeing him like that.

"These people are going to die at the hands of a real-life super villain! Do you know who fights super villains!? Superheroes! I am a superhero, kind of, and I need to help these people," she told him, trying to get out of his strong grip.

"You can't even use your powers! You made a spark! That does not mean that you have full control of your powers and until you do you can not try to save these people!" he told her to no avail. Her mind was already set and she was not going to let other people hurt when she had the ability to help them.

Her heart was racing as his fingernails dug into her skin in desperation, silently begging her to stay back. She would do no such thing, so, with one final tug she was free of his hold and ran off yet again, determined to save these victims.

When she finally got some sense she pulled up the hood of her jacket to at least slightly conceal her identity if not fully. The jacket wasn't the best for this situation due to the fact that it was bright red but at least nobody could see her as she made her way to the building under attack.

She tried to form a plan in her mind, looking around to take everything into account. The villain seemed to have control over fire. How he got those powers, Mia had no idea. That didn't matter at the moment though. All that mattered was that this... this... this monster decided to use his gift to hurt innocent people rather than help them and that she would not do the same.

When she got to the destruction she realized how hard it would be to do anything. Her powers weren't exactly meant to fight fire.

She concentrated all of her body, mind, and soul into her hands as she had done only the day before. This time however it seemed to work far better. She watched as immediately flashes of lightning shot out of her hands. She imagined them flowing out of her and striking the attacker, a strong, tall, extremely evil looking man who seemed to be laughing at the destruction he was causing.

Although she was able to get the lightning out of her hands, it wouldn't obey her. It was uncontrollable. She was terrified when she realized all of the danger that she, and everyone around her, was now in.

Lightning was flashing all around her. She watched in horror as it caught on a nearby tree. What have I done!? she asked herself, continuously trying to regain control of her abilities.

Bright lights. Screams of pain. Destruction. And then darkness.
