Chapter 3

Alana was paralyzed, but it wasn't from fear. Someone was controlling her body, and she couldn't fight back. She saw the smirks form on the mens' faces, and she knew she was in trouble. The next sign was one of the men taking out a tranquilizer gun. Her eyes widened.

No no no. Let's not, Alana thought, as she wasn't able to speak. Suddenly, she heard a sound behind her. Since Alana had very sensitive hearing, and even she could barely hear it, she was sure no one else did. She would have let out a sigh of relief, if she could have moved. The man with the gun started taking aim, and Alana felt her breath catch. She saw a small movement behind the man, and she was sure one of Carter's inventions was going to save her. But things didn't turn out that way at all.

Carter's POV

I hid behind the man with the gun, ready to tackle him at a moments notice. Alana looked pale and stiff, but she seemed to notice me. Suddenly, without warning, the man shot the gun. Five times. That's enough to almost kill her! I jumped on him, taking him to the ground. I started punching him, and out of the corner of my eye I saw another man take out a real gun, but Jason kicked his gun out of his hands. Jemma took on the woman controlling Alana, and Abbey took the leader. Abbey is by far the best fighter out of all of us, and she can't even see who she's fighting. After I knocked my man unconscious, I sprinted over to Alana, who was lying motionless on the ground. Suddenly she started crying, and she curled into a little ball. She was whispering something, but I couldn't hear it. I leaned closer, and I heard what she was saying.

"No. Not Abbey. Not Carter. Not Jemma, and not Jason! Take me." She paused after a moment, as if listening to someone, then started again.

"I do have some last words. Abbey, Jemma, Jason, you are all so wonderful. Stay safe. Carter. Where to start. First, I think I lo-" she said, but then she started thrashing, then stilled and didn't move at all. As I stood up, I saw the small fight was over. All of their guys were knocked out, and none of us were harmed. Good for us.

Alana's POV
I was standing in an empty room, along with the group and some stranger with a gun.

"I have a question for you," the man stated. "Who will I kill? Abbey?"

"No! Not Abbey!" I yelled.

"Carter? Or Jemma or Jason?"

"Not Carter! Not Jemma and not Jason! Take me!" I called at him, only having one thought in my head: protect all your friends.

"Fine. Have any last words?" The man asked.

I almost sobbed, hoping my sacrifice would help everyone. "I do have some last words. Abbey, Jemma, Jason," I started. The three of them all looked like I felt, like they were about to cry. "You are all so wonderful. Stay safe." I walked over to them and hugged them. "Carter. Where to start. First, I think I lo-" I stopped mid word as the man shot my arm. I screamed in pain, thinking nothing could be worse than this. Then he shot my neck, and I could feel myself dying with one last thought. I think I love you.
