The sun hung in the bright blue sky above me as the heat beats down on us in a warm and soothing way just as spring would normally do. The air was sweet with flowers and buzzing with life of smaller creatures as our horses ran across the field on our first expedition outside the walls after 6 years. (h/n) huffed out, leading the pack of the scouts behind me and Levi which included Hanji, Armin, Eren, Mikasa, Jean, Connie, Sasha and a few extras meaning Floche included.

I look behind me to see Eren looking morose and distant, his hair on the longer side. "Everything is going as it should..." I mumble out, pushing forward as Hanji commanded us. A flock of birds flew above us, cooing softly to each other and I see Armin look up with an amazed look in his eyes.

A red smoke blast goes off in the sky and everyone looks at each other in confusion. "A titan?" Jean asks.

"So I guess one actually showed up. Let's go take a look." Connie answers and they rush forward to see if it was safe. Everyone slows down, seeing a small titan laying dead on the ground. "Doesn't look like it can move much..."

"Even with those limbs... It still tried to drag itself to the wall bit by bit." Sasha mutters out and I watch Eren get close to it while and going off about how it was a fellow patreon. Everyone saddles up again and we all ride off, ignoring Floche's yells of killing the titan. We continue riding, slowly seeing patches of sand show up in the grass and that's when I bring up my scarf to cover my face.

"Ho much farther until we reach the wall?" Levi asks as he looks over at me.

"We will reach there around midday." I respond back and he nods, staring at me for a little while before looking up ahead. Levi didn't want to tell anyone about us, not that I minded. I knew he wasn't good with the social interaction that comes with explaining to people that you are seeing someone and I figured that he was still trying to figure out his feelings which I was ok with. I'm willing to wait and be there for him as much as I can. I didn't want to push him to anything and really, I was more than happy to keep it under wraps. I didn't want to overwhelm Levi.

The day quickly passed by us and we reached the tall sand dunes and hills, the tall pale wall standing high on our left like a myth or ghost story broken and proven correct. "Just up there." Eren explains and we ride to the side leading up, the horses slowing down to a trot. I grin happily and quickly jump off (h/n), running towards the ledge and breathing in the salty air.

"Oh god I missed this!" I yell out, throwing my arms out as I looked over the vast wide spread of crystal blue waters. I chuckle, turning around to see the amazed looks of the scouts behind me, in absolute awe. "And this ladies and gentlemen is what you call the ocean." I let everyone reminiscent through their memories as I run down towards the sand, squealing in joy. "The beach!" I bend down and immediately take my boots off, Armin and the others doing the same as they run down to the beach. I roll up my pants up as much as I could, revelling in how warm the sand was.

I pick up a handful, letting it filter through my fingers. "Oi brat, is that posioness? Is there anything dangerous in the sea?" Levi walks up to me, a grimace on his face as everyone was playing in the water.

"Nope! It's safe closer to the beach but if you go further out, that's where dangerous creatures like sharks are. They don't eat us but have the ability to rip off our limbs." Everyone freezes and looks at me with wide eyes. "Don't worry, you're safe. They can't come close to the beach or they will get stuck and die."

"My eyes!" Sasha screeches out in pain and I tsk.

"Be careful, the ocean is salty so don't drink and don't get it in your eyes." I stare at the mischievous trio, glaring down Jean as he was about to drink the water.

I walk towards the ocean, sighing at the cold feeling as it lapped at my feet. "Levi, come one, just dip your feet into the water. It's nice and cold." I look over at him as he looks at the water with hesitation. I walk back towards him as he slowly undoes his boots. "You can hold my sleeve." Levi looks down unsure, his hand lifting to hold the edge of my sleeve as I walk back out slowly towards the ocean.

"Shit! You weren't kidding when you said it's cold. It's fucking freezing!" Levi hisses out and I chuckle, turning to look back out at the ocean. I felt so peaceful watching the ocean rock back and forth, taking in a deep breath and just exhaling everything that has happened so far. I see a shell further into the water and I paddle in, ignoring Levi's yells as I bend down to pick it up.

"Levi, look! It's a shell!" I was amazed at the conch shell I found, seeing something like this for the first time ever since we didn't get shells like this back home.

"What is that? Should you be touching that?" Levi flinches back as I try to pass it to him.

"It's like a rock Levi. Inanimate."

I wonder if this works.

I grin and hover the conch shell in front of me, blowing into it and jumping back in surprise as a long honking sound leaves it. "Holy shit it works! See Levi, it can't hurt you!" I pass it to him slowly and he marvels at it, turning it around and just feeling the surface. I turn back to the ocean, sitting down on the sand watching as the water barely touches my feet and rolls back out.

"You really like the ocean don't you?" Levi asks and I look up as he removes his cape and sets it down to sit on it next to me.

"That and other things like fields and hills. Big expanses of nature like this just makes me feel so..."

"...Free..." Levi finishes for me and I nod, leaning my head on my knees that I held up against my chest.

"Exactly. Free. It' so much better when the sun sets and the stars come out. The ocean becomes still and it looks like the sky is painted on the surface of the ocean. It feels magical." I look over at Levi to see a small smile on his face as he stared at the ocean, thinking about the scenery.

"Then once this is all over, we all should come back to watch the sunset. Just as you said." Levi shifts closer to me, trying to be subtle against everyone and I just coo at how cute he was acting.

Just like this morning too...

I had woken up in the morning to Levi holding me tightly to his chest like before, my back up against him. He had his head leaning on my shoulder with an arm around my waist and the other beneath my head to hold my hand.

"Hanji, put those sea cucumbers down." I mutter out, knowing she picked up one in each hand.

"Why!? Are they poisonous!?" I look straight at her.

"Yes." She shrieks and yeets those things back into the sea. "Is there anything sticky on your hands?"

"No!?"

"Good. But wash them just in case." Hanji screams for Moblit and Levi sighs next to me.

"I thought you said there wasn't anything dangerous here."

"You said if there was anything dangerous out in the ocean. I didn't say anything about prey that use evolved survival skills to protect themselves." Levi gives me a pointed look and I raise my hands. "Hanji will be fine as long as she doesn't touch her eyes."

"Be glad her glasses are in the way cause then she's fucked." I chuckle and sigh out, knowing this would be one of the many last few moments I can spend in peace before we all get shoved into chaos again.

"Hey, let's make a sandcastle together." I turn to Levi as he looks at me in confusion and I smile at him. "Don't worry, I'll show you what to do."
