Chapter 3

POV Seraphina

Aaron continued to pull me with him until we wandered into another corridor and I knew Jasper was no longer behind us.
Jasper seemed like a nice guy who just wanted to have a chat with me. After all, he wasn't just whispering about us because we were new, instead he talked to me.
I crossed my arms and looked at Aaron out of the corner of my eye.
"Did you have to be so mean?", I asked only getting a wry grunt and rolled my eyes.

Not even the first lesson had started and he had already intimidated a classmate.  It would definitely be hard to make some friends with him around, or even talk to anyone at all.
What a nice start...

"Remember Phina, we're not here for fun. It's best to keep to ourselves, we've talked about that", Aaron explained calmly, not wanting to draw attention to us, which was difficult since almost every girl who saw him started drooling.
I just sighed and nodded, knowing it was important to keep our secret.

"Here's your classroom princess, have fun", he said with a cheeky grin, and continued to his room, waving.
I rolled my eyes again, but couldn't help the grin that spread across my face.
By now, I just couldn't imagine my life without a grumpy Aaron by my side.

The teacher in the room assigned me to a seat which was in the back row and I sat down as there weren't many students as of yet.
I put my history book on the table and pulled a pad and pen out of my backpack.
Bored, I started to do little sketches to make the time go by faster.

Unconsciously, my other hand went to my crystal, which was hidden under my shirt. I cupped my hand gently over it and prayed that at least today nothing unpleasant would happen again.
But with Aaron by my side, it would almost be a miracle if that wish came true.

I only looked up when someone next to me also put his book on the table and I was met yet again with golden eyes that were already studying me.
The color of his eyes seemed almost abnormal to me and in the back of my mind I was sure I knew the connection, but as soon as he looked me straight in the eyes I could hardly think straight.

"Hello again", Jasper said quietly with a small smile, which I immediately returned.
Gentle dimples formed because of his smile, which immediately made him look even more charming.
"Hey Jasper", I said a little nervously, looking back at my pad.
I started to continue on a sketch that was close to a distorted shadow.
"Did you draw that?", he broke the short silence and looked at my pad, which was already filled with a few sketches.

"Oh that? Yeah, but those are just little sketches, nothing special", I said with a quick glance at Jasper, who was watching me closely, which didn't help my nervousness at all.
"I really like them", he said smiling and looked back at my pad.
The corners of my mouth twitched up and I looked back at him.
"I'm really sorry about Aaron", I began quickly and saw his eyes flicker to me, "he can be quite cold, but when you get to know him better, he's very different."

He looked at me intently and then nodded.
He seemed a little tense again, and I wondered if I shouldn't have brought up the subject with Aaron.
An awkward silence settled between us at this point and I went back to my pad.

Class started and I felt Jasper's eyes on me almost constantly, but didn't want to say anything as that would only create more awkwardnes between us.
So we sat silently next to each other until the end of the lesson and at least I worked on the tasks we were supposed to do.

The bell finally rang and I was packing my things into my backpack to leave when a hand that was freezing cold gripped my wrist.
Almost like a shock ran through my body, which was triggered by his touch.  Although my wrist was covered by my shirt, I felt an instant chill emanating from him.

Strangely enough, this mentioned cold didn't bother me one bit, which surprised me a lot, since I generally didn't like the cold that much.
A bit shocked I looked at the almost white hand that was still clutching me, despite his pleasantly cold touch.

The hand quickly released me and I looked up at Jasper's face.
He himself seemed a little shocked by his sudden action, which is probably why his mouth was slightly open.
His expression quickly changed to pained and I was about to ask if everything was ok when he started to speak, "sorry ma'm I didn't meant to scare you."

He glanced down and then looked back at me with a slight smile, "I just wanted to ask if I could accompany you to your next class?"
My cheeks flushed slightly and my heart started beating faster, which left me visibly confused and I could have sworn Jasper's smile deepened.
"Oh uhh yeah that would be great", I said quickly, tucking a strand of hair that had fallen forward, behind my ear.

I was extremely confused by my reaction, but I also didn't want to let on that the blond in front of me could influence me so much.
How could it be that my heart suddenly skipped a beat?
Of course he was extraordinarily handsome, but I had never reacted like that to anyone, hell we don't even know each other!

"Not so fast", came Aaron's voice at the class entrance and I almost rolled my eyes as I was kicked out of my thoughts.
I looked at the door and saw Aaron with his arms crossed, who not a second later stomped into the room and was standing next to me.
His hand immediately went around my waist and he pulled me a little further towards him.

With a quick glance in Jasper's direction, I realized he was giving Aaron an equally venomous glare and looked very tense.
"Aaron, he just wanted to be nice", I tried to lighten the mood, which didn't really work.
Both of them were still staring at each other with angry expressions, as if they were engaged in a fierce fight.
Brown eyes that I knew all too well stared into Jasper's golden eyes, which darkened slightly.

"How nice of Jasper", Aaron said, almost spitting out the name 'Jasper'.
"But newsflash, she doesn't need you because I'll take care of that", Aaron said looking intently at Jasper before he ushered me out of the room and I was only able to spot Jasper within a quick glance back, before I completely walked out of the room.

I sighed deeply and walked alongside Aaron.
My thoughts drifted to Jasper's face, who looked longingly after me as I caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of my eye. Strangely it almost hurt me to see him like that and I felt the need to protect him and make him happy.
I immediately let the thought fall just as quickly as it had come.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I barely knew the guy for what; a lesson?

Still, I couldn't forget Jasper's defeated attitude and who was responsible for it.
"Jasper just wanted to be nice", I broached the topic again and didn't know myself why I was trying to defend Jasper so extremely, since I didn't know him at all and I was going to leave this town after the mission anyway.
"I don't trust him. He seems weird", Aaron said quietly and looked at me seriously.

"What do you mean?", I asked confused and had to admit that although his eye color was very special and his hand very cold, he seemed otherwise normal to me.
"Just trust me on this Phina, there's something wrong with him", he said almost thoughtfully grabbing my hand.
Maybe Aaron was right.
Jasper seemed to trigger something within me that I didn't even understand it in the slightes by myself.
It would probably be wisest to keep my distance.

In front of my next classroom he stopped and looked at me softly, "remember Phina, I only want the best for you."
I looked up at him with a sincere smile and had to shake my head slightly, "I know that, but don't overdo it, please."
He winked at me again and then said goodbye.

I entered the room and looked around for an empty seat when suddenly someone tapped me on the shoulder.
Confused, I turned to see a petite young woman sporting a pixie look.
"Hello, my name is Alice and you are welcome to sit next to me", she said cheerfully, leading me to the back.

When I saw the young woman, I had to think of Jasper immediately, as she also had this aura of attractiveness about her.  I catched another glance in her direction and immediately noticed her golden eyes, which were identical to Jasper's.
Nevertheless, I was glad that she offered me the seat next to her and that I was no longer just standing around weirdly.

I thankfully sat down next to her, introduced myself as Seraphina and unpacked my things for the two English lessons.
"Soo you've already met Jasper right?", she asked me with a knowing look and I looked at her questioningly.
After all, the two had the same eye color, even if it's a particularly unusual one. So there was a possibility that they might be siblings right?
"Oh hehe, Jasper is my adoptive brother", she said quickly, putting her things on the table as well.

Adoptive brother?

He was 'just' her adoptive brother, but both had the same eye color?
The whole thing confused me all the more, but maybe it was just a coincidence.
"Really? Well I wasn't expecting that, but you both definitely have a similar approach when it comes to introductions", I said thoughtfully, giving Alice a small smile of my own.
She had to laugh a little after my comment and the mood relaxed significantly.

"My siblings and I were adopted by the Cullens, only Jasper and Rosalie have 'Hale' as their last name since they are actual siblings", she said cheerfully winking at me.
I looked at her in surprise and had to admit that I had never heard of anything like this, but just accepted it.
A comfortable silence spread between us, and my thoughts immediately went back to Jasper.

"Jasper...is he always so...quiet?", I tried to get the question right and looked at Alice who seemed to be smiling wider.
"Jasper is more of the quiet type. He's very shy, but don't worry I think he really likes you", she beamed and then turned to the teacher, who started the lesson.

Jasper... likes me... a lot?
But we only met today...

I glanced at Alice casually and eyed her sideways.
Her golden eyes and short hairstyle really suited her.
She definitely had a sense for fashion as her outfit looked particularly well-chosen.

After some time of pondering, the double lesson went by faster than expected and I packed my things again.
Amazingly, Alice was waiting for me and we walked out of the room towards the cafeteria together.
"Hey, would you like to sit with my family and I?", she asked excitedly, and I had to admit that her energy was admirable.

I looked at Alice in amazement and was about to say yes when I remembered Aaron and Micah.
"Oh um, maybe another time, I'm already meeting up with someone", I said sheepishly, seeing Aaron and Micah standing at the entrance to the cafeteria watching me.
"Aww, but next time promise?", she asked pouting and I had to giggle a little.

"Unfortunately, I can't make any promises to you, but I'll do my best", I said quickly and said goodbye to her.

With quick steps I went to my team partners, who eyed me with interest.
"You really are a magnet sis", Micah said with a smirk and I just rolled my eyes.
"Come on I'm starving", I said quickly, pulling them both behind me, laughing.
