Chapter 24

Shawn's Apartment

Shawn

I lazily lifted my head off the couch. Boy what a night we'd had and I wouldn't doubt that every one of us gotten a little toasty from the two empty bottles of wine still sitting in the table. Gil and I had crashed on the couch while
Rebbie and Janet took the bed.

There was a snort and I looked over at Gil and laughed. He was laying halfway out of his unzipped sleeping bag in nothing but a pair of extremely tight neon orange boxers. I shook my head.

"The gayest person I know, hands down." I sat up on my side of the couch, careful not to wake him. Rubbing my eyes for a moment, I woke up a bit more and decided to grab a bottle of water from the kitchen.

It was completely dark, all but moonlight peeking through the windows. Janet was standing in the window, quietly gazing out.
I glanced at the clock on the stove top. It was nearly four in the morning. She was deep in her thoughts and didn't noticed me standing right next to her.

"Are you okay J?" I asked, not wanting to startle her. She turned and looked at me, tears began to stream down her cheeks. She wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me tight as I caressed her back. She was trembling. "Baby talk to me, whats wrong sweetheart?"

She just didn't respond, but I felt her lips against the side of my neck, then my cheek and then she just gazed at me.

"I need you." She said and grabbed my hand. Her eyes never left mine as she pushed my hand past the waist band of her sweats and then in side of her. Her lips parted and she moaned quietly.

Janet was so wet. The excitement flowing from her was slippery and silky to the touch. She pushed her sweats off and kicked them to the side. I took her by the waist and sat her on the counter top. She spread her legs wide for me and looked down at her glistening sex.

I knew exactly what she wanted and dropped to my knees. With in seconds my face was covered in the evidence of her pleasure. Janet wrapped her legs around my neck, watching me enjoy her as she did her best to stay quiet.

She came, gritting her teeth as she gushed into my mouth. I licked my lips and stood up, but she wanted more. She grabbed my hand again and pushed my fingers inside of her. My god it felt so good to have her completely wrapped around my fingers.

"Please make me cum baby... oh I need it so bad." She whispered against my ear. She let out a small cry as her tears began to wet my face. "Fuck don't stop Shawn please." She was costing my finger as she rocked her hips and let her head fall forward against my shoulder. She moaned into my neck as she came again.

I just held her for a moment. I could've stayed just like this forever but she suddenly pulled away. She slid off the counter forcing me to give her space. She could barely look at me and went to retrieve her sweat pants.

Something was wrong. I felt it the second I'd walked back into the house, but after she had kissed me in front of Rebbie, I thought things were okay.

Janet wouldn't look at me. "I know you..." I said. "And I know that there is something you're not telling me Janet."

I walked up behind her, wrapped my arms around her waist and held her tight. We swayed for just a moment, then she finally turned around to face me.

Janet fidgeted with her fingers and finally spoke. "I uh, Preston is will be here soon to pick me up."

"Why? Is everything okay?"

"I just think that I should stay at my own home for a while." She said.

I shook my head. "Why are you doing this J?"

"Shawn I have obligations there." She tried explained.

I laughed. "I can't believe I let you do this shit to me all over again." I said and walked away from her. I sat down by the front door and slipped into a pair of shoes.

"Shawn please." She whispered. "Please don't leave this way." She begged. Though I felt badly, I just acted as if I didn't hear her and walked away.

Walking down stairs Preston pulled up next to me. He quickly got out.

"Ms. Heard wait!"

"Just leave it alone Preston." I said and kept walking.

I took my time returning home. The sun was up and I was exhausted. I walked until I ended up at my front door again. The aroma of sausage, eggs and biscuits filled my nostrils and my stomach growled loudly.

Gil screamed. "Girl! Y'all are back just in time!" He said. "My new bff just finished making us all breakfast. No offense Dunk!"

"She left." I said.

"What? Why did she leave?" Gil asked.

I scoffed. "Because of her "obligations" is how she put it to me."

"They're married Shawnette." Rebbie added.

I stood and paced in front of them. "I know that." I said and covered my face. "I just thought that we had something."

Rebbie stood up to comfort me. I began to feel dizzy and was a bit unsteady. They both noticed and took me by the arms. They helped me into my bed where I fell asleep instantly.

My dreams were more torture than my reality because when I wake, she was gone all over again. I checked my phone. Nothing. I sat up and walked into the living room were Gil and Rebbie were bundled up together on the couch crying and watching soap operas.

"Don't you two have stuff you need to do today?" I asked a bit irritated.

Gil held up his hand and they didn't answer me until the last few minutes of the show came to an end.

"What was that boo?" He said

"I was asking if you guys have some other plans for today?" I rephrased what I'd said, after having a couple of minutes to think about it. They glanced at each other and shook their heads no.

I sighed. "I kind of want to be alone today you guys."

I tighted my gloves, took a deep breathe and went at it. This was one of my favorite ways to release stress and I was completely in my zone.

Rebbie walked in and stood beside me. I glanced her briefly and continued to hit the bag as hard as I could.

"Are you in love with my sister?" She asked. I stopped in mid swing and held the bag place. I looked at her.

"I was done the first time she fucking smiled at me." I said and took a sip of water.

Rebbie laughed and nodded. "That's definitely not the first time I've heard that about her." She stepped closer to me. "I don't want to speak for my sister, but I'm sure leaving was very hard for her. I know it's hard for you to understand right now, but she is doing what's best for her marriage."

"That's why I'm so confused. Before I left to go see Gil, she was all about us. I leave for an hour or so only to come back and now she feels differently." We glared at each other for a moment. "What changed Rebbie? Why would you ever convince her to go back to the man who has been hurting her?"

"Marriage is a very complicated thing. My parents had issues their entire life but they made a commitment before God and they fought for it every single day."

"And that is their choice, but tell me this Rebbie... has Joseph ever pointed a gun at Katherine?" It was out of my mouth before I could stop it but I just kept going. "Did your father ever force himself onto his own wife?" I raised my voice.

Gil was standing in the door way now. "Shawnette I don't think this is okay."

"Nah man, she deserves to know." I said and pointed to the healing wound on my arm. "He pulled the trigger without hesitation... and I jumped in front of her." Rebbie was stunned, she was just standing there. "He could've killed her and you pushed her right back into his arms." For the first time Rebbie was speechless. "Now if you'll excuse me. I have to get back to my workout." I said and turned my back to her.

She stormed passed Gil and out of the room. He stood behind me, pissed.

"You didn't have to talk to her like that, but I agree with you and I'm standing behind you on this. She needed to know." I looked up at him. I was broken. He pulled me by the gloves and hugged me tight as I sobbed in his arms.

"I don't want to lose her Gil." I said.

"Then you fight for her babe." He took my face into his hands. "You hear me, don't stop fighting. Not yet."  He kissed me and said goodbye and I was alone.

My apartment was finally empty. Too empty, the silence was way too loud. I missed her terribly and it was making me sick. I found myself just wanted to sleep, so I grabbed a pillow and got comfortable on the couch.

I thought about my conversations with Janet, Rebbie and Gil but still didn't know what I was going to do. My eyes eventually drifted closed and in my dreams, there she was.
