Summoned
"Kathy?" Mendalie asked. Kathy stood at Runa's door, frowning.
"Is Runa here?" she asked her.
"Um hold on," Mendalie told her and went into the apartment. In a moment, Runa came to the door. She was wearing an apron and had her hair up.
"Oh hi Kathy," Runa said. "What's going on?"
Katherine Page stood there shocked at Runa's appearance. "Runa they sent me after you," she told her. Then Kathy smiled because she couldn't help it. "You're going like that?"
Runa looked confused. "Going?" Runa asked.
"To book club of course," she said. "They said to come pick you up."
"They did?" Runa asked.
Kathy sighed. "Yes. Are you ready?"
Runa looked at herself and then back at Kathy. "Give me a minute and I'll be down." She closed the door on her. Then she opened it again. "You can look through the books and stuff. I won't be long."
Runa shut the door again. "What was that about?" Mendalie asked her.
"I completely forgot," Runa said.
"Forgot what?" Mendalie asked her.
"I have to go out for a little bit," Runa said. "I'm sorry."
"Book club?" Mendalie asked.
Runa looked at her, dumbfounded.
"Oh don't give me that look. I know you're in it," she said. "It's fine. I'll keep myself busy here. Houdini and I have some catching up to do anyway." She picked up the cat and started petting her.
"You sure?" she asked.
"I'm sure. Go have fun reading or whatever it is you do there. I'll just read your diary while you're gone."
"Mendalie!"
"I'm kidding," Mendalie told her, "Maybe." She smiled at Runa.
