|| The Reflection ||
I tried to move my fingers, and they surprisingly obeyed me.
Next were my eyes. They were a bit heavy, but I managed to open them.
I looked around, and my eyes landed on the nurse. She sat there humming, her gaze fixed on me.
"Finally you're awake," she said, a small smile on her lips.
I wanted to ask what happened, but I already knew. Leyla and her friends beat the crap out of me. All because I wasn't going to give in willingly and let her suck me. She had to be mentally unstable. They made a mistake putting her in prison, it should've been a mental asylum.
"Here, take these," she said, showing me two pink tablets.
I sat up slowly, wincing from the pain all over my body.
I took the tablets from her. I didn't even ask what they were for, I shoved them down my throat. She offered me a glass of water, and I took it willingly.
"They will help the pain," she said, and I nodded slowly.
I rested the glass on the table beside me, before placing my hands on my lap. I felt shaken up.
Will I really be able to survive this place? I'm already a target, and the worst part is that I can't even defend myself. I was weak and a coward. I couldn't even fight back against my own brother.
"Jess, you need to be more careful," she said gently.
I sighed. "I... I am. It's just...."
I didn't even know what to say. I'm sure she already knows why this happened to me. It's prison, nothing suprises anyone anymore.
"I know it's rough, but you need to be more careful. Watch your back and don't trust anyone. This prison can be unforgiving," she said, her eyes softening a bit.
I swallowed. "I know. I'll keep that in mind."
I wanted to vent but it was a waste of time. She stood up and went to her desk. She rummaged through some stuff before turning and walking out.
I threw the covers off my body and saw that I was in a thin hospital gown. I swung my legs over the bed and got off. I had to hold on for a few seconds to steady myself.
There was a mirror on the wall in the corner. I walked slowly, taking one step at a time. I clutched my stomach, feeling a slight ache searing through.
I stopped at the mirror, and for a second, I wondered if this was really me. I didn't look good. I looked broken. My hair was a mess, and my once warm face was cold and pale.
This was the reflection of death itself, and it was all because of Leyla.
"How are you?"
I shrieked from the sound. I whipped around, almost falling, and my eyes landed on Vayne. He was standing there, arms crossed as usual. His expression was the same, cold and unreadable.
"Come here, Jess."
His voice was rough, and a bit commanding. I didn't wait, I made my way towards him. I walked slowly, keeping my eyes on his. Once in front of him, I took my time to actually admire him.
His bulky arms and muscles pushing through his uniform. His eyes were dark and intense, burning holes right through me. I swallowed, feeling my toes curl just a bit.
"Jess, what happened?" He asked.
I sighed. "I was attacked."
He hummed. "Again? Why are you always in trouble?"
My jaw ticked. I don't necessarily put myself in trouble. It just so happens to always find me. Mainly because of that one specific leech.
"I just attract it, I guess," I replied softly.
He shook his head. "Your cellmate found you on the floor, out cold. You were practically half naked."
I grit my teeth. I didn't even know what Leyla did to me sexually. I didn't feel any pain down there so I wasn't that alarmed.
"Can't you fight?" He asked, and that made me chuckle.
Me fight? If I could overpower my brother, I wouldn't be having this problem in here. I was the flight in fight or flight. I try to avoid problems and stay on the low. But in here, even the smallest thing is noticed.
"I can't," I replied, before taking a seat back on the bed.
Vayne's eyes were fixed on me. He didn't twitch or move. His gaze was intense, and I felt myself squirming a little. I watched as he took a few steps forward.
"You need to learn to defend yourself. This place is not for the weak."
I looked down, then back up at him. "And then what? Fight off everyone who messes with me? I'm not violent and I don't think I'll ever be."
He shoved his hands into his pockets. "It's not being violent. It's learning to stand up for yourself."
I sighed. He didn't understand, and he never will.
He took another step forward, a slight hesitant look on his face.
"I want names."
I frowned. "Huh? Names of what?"
His jaw worked. "Names of your attackers."
I groaned inwardly. I couldn't tell him. That will just cause more and more problems. Besides, Leyla had links. I'm sure her punishment will be minor of she may even get off without any.
"Jess, I'm waiting."
By this time, he was right in front of me. His arms crossed and eyes narrowed.
"I-I can't," I croaked out.
He shook is head disapprovingly. "You're really stubborn, Jess."
My lips twitched, and I tried desperately to hide my smile. I failed miserably as my face broke out in a grin.
"You think it's funny?" He asked, but his tone wasn't harsh. It was a bit playful.
I smiled and looked down. "Just a little."
Then the most suprising thing happened. He laughed. It was a short one, but it didn't matter. I've never seen him laugh. It was a contrast between his serious demeanor.
"But seriously Jess, I need names. They need to be punished. That's the only way to protect you."
I sighed, and started chewing on my bottom lip. He was right but it still didn't matter. I'll be labeled as a snitch and who knows who else will come after me.
I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't notice fingers brushing against my cheek. I looked up, and I froze.
Vayne was caressing my cheek. It was faint, but his touch ignited a fire on my face. His eyes were firm, and his lips in a thin line.
"Names, Jess."
This time, I couldn't keep quiet. His tone was hard and left no room for my protests. He removed his fingers, and I almost groan from the loss of contact.
What the hell was wrong with me? That shouldn't have been nothing. I shouldn't be feeling this way. I'm not feeling any way!
"Leyla. Tanya. Kimmy."
He nodded in satisfaction. "Good girl."
I knew what he said was just a normal statement, but it had me feeling a bit giddy inside.
"Your face is pale," he said.
I shrugged slightly. "Yeah, I noticed."
He averted his eyes for a second, before looking back at me. "Get some rest. The nurse will be back soon to check on you."
I nodded, but stayed silent.
He smirked before turning and walking out. I sighed and flopped down on the bed. I already regret telling him the names.
I was sure as hell in for a treat tomorrow.
