Chapter 1

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I watched as the white floor became evaded with a dark crimson color.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I tried standing up, but my legs wobbled at the prospect of having to carry my weight at the weak state I was currently in.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I watched as the floor was filled with more dark trails of crimson.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I took cautious steps to the bathroom mirror. Slowly as not to fall.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I reached the mirror and gazed at my reflection in the mirror.

Broken. Destroyed. Lifeless. Shackled.

No hope.

That is what I saw looking back at me in the mirror.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The grey in my eyes looked a shade lighter than what I'm normally accustomed to, making my eyes look deadly. Almost as if I were dead. Too bad that can never happen.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I lifted my hand to touch the dark locks of my hair. It was soft and silky, an elegant and charmingly dark black.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I lifted my wrist to where I had slit them, examining them.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I looked behind me and saw how much blood I was losing.

I wish it would mean my death. Dying is so much better than continuing to live in this wretched world.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I wiped some of the overflowing blood with the tips of my index and middle finger.

I looked in the mirror and started writing what I wished could happen. Collecting more blood from my still bleeding wrist.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I finally finished writing in the mirror. I started feeling lightheaded. Everything around me started spinning as my vision become more and more impaired.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

I smiled weakly at my reflection as a tear rolled down my check. Looking at the words I had written.

DIE!

More tears started rolling down as my legs gave out and I fell to the floor.

I started crying, my heart clenching to a point where I could not even take a breath without my whole body hurting.

It was painful to live. It reminded me of a life I didn't want. A life I did not wish to live.

Darkness started invading the light that was illuminating the room.

Closing my eyes I allowed the darkness to take me for now.

"Azayleea, it is time to wake up," A gentle voice called out to me. I felt the figure slowly shake me, trying to pry away any remains of sleep I had collected.

I slowly opened my eyes, squinting at the brightness of the room that was surely blinding to the eyes.

My grey eyes scanned the area to see that I was once again in my room.

I looked down at my wrist to see them neatly bandaged. Hiding a deed I wish was completed.

I lifted myself slowly from the bed to come face to face with Suzette Kian. One of the few people who has taken care of me my entire life.

My parents could have done that, but for all they know I am dead. Have been for years now.

I was abducted at the tender age of two. I don't remember much about my family, but from the data that I have seen collected on them. They are fairly nice people.

My dad maintains a stable job working as a journalist for a local newspaper. One already knows the pay isn't so great.

My mom is currently unemployed. From my general knowledge since my "death" they have no other kids after me. It is only I as the last child. I have two older siblings.

A brother and a sister who I know nothing about. Not even what their names are. I couldn't get that type of information.

Seeing as my dad at the time had to take care of three children. He always sought a way to make more money to feed all our hungry stomachs.

He ended up taking money from the wrong crowd and that cost him everything. When it was time to pay up on the agreed money. My father was run down and penniless.

He tried to gamble more money, entering competitions or lotteries, but he lost all that money.

Because he couldn't pay, they needed a compensation. Me.

My father bluntly refused to hand me over and that caused trouble. They evaded his home and shot my mother while repeatedly giving him bruise after bruise.

Taunting him, while breaking his bones. Then finally, they forcefully took me whilst I was screaming and crying. They ran off and took me to where I am currently residing.

A big mansion that is owned by one of the biggest crime lord's in the block. A dangerous man who no one wants to cross with. Unfortunately, my father hadn't gotten the memo.

My father received a photograph of my "corpse" the following day, with a heavy heart, along with the constant threats of more harm to his family.

My father is now a slave working hard to try and free his family from the debt they are swimming in.

They recorded the day I was taken, I found out that my family was constantly being monitored, and that night, everything was taped.

They made me watch the tape. I witnessed what was the saddest moment of my life. Over and over and over again.

To make matters worse this drug lord has given me a gift I have resented.

They have given me the gift of immortality. I can never die.

I was locked up in this house until I was twelve years of age. Treated like a mere peasant who is not worthy of anything, but once I was thirteen.

They handed me over to a crazed scientist, that was revoked of his license because of his illegal taking of abusive substances and the constant harm he brought to patients, as he tried to discreetly experiment on them.

How that man is not in prison right now is beyond me.

There I was probed, cut, stabbed and examined like a lab rat. I was his greatest delight. He was my worst nightmare. Dr. Flynn.

It was torture to be in that office, but one day it got worse.

It was the day wherein he noticed my flesh healing of its own accord after slicing my skin.

He then added more doses of the chemicals he was using until it was a rapid recovery. From an injury I'd completely heal in the span of an hour, depending on the type of harm.

Sometimes, it could be a day or two, even more.

Ever since that day, I have been sold every night to the highest bidder. To be used as a stress reliever or punching bag. Being introduced to new kinds of torture every day.

They don't care how much pain I'm in. They don't care about my screams of pain and labored breathing. They make a killing every night and the victim cannot die.

I started removing the bandages from my wrist. Seeing the scars that would disappear by nightfall, leaving no reminder of the past night.

Simply as if it did not happen.

"I see it is healing well," I looked up to see Suzette's eyes trained on my wrists.

"I wish it hadn't," I mumbled, but she still heard.

She sighed, she has seen me suffering, and I can see it in her eyes how much it hurts to see me like this, but it hurts even more for me who experiences all the pain.

"You should get ready for school, the master will not be pleased knowing you missed school now that you are awake," she said.

I nodded gravely, and clenched my hands tightly on the bed sheet that was giving me warmth.

"I wish it wasn't like this," I whispered weakly, feeling my world crumble. Suzette is the only one I allow my resolve to fall under.

She is the only one who sees this weak side of me. The rest do not, and can never see it.

She held out a hand for me and I took it. She lifted me from the bed and gave me a comforting hug.

"I wish so too Pumpkin. Seeing you suffer like this is breaking to the heart."

I cried once she uttered those words and she stroked my back. Holding me and giving me strength I did not have.

"You are brave, you are strong."

"You are a warrior and a fighter," she continued saying reassuring words to me.

"You are kind and you are beautiful."

"You are delicate but filled with thorns. A born survivor."

"You are Azayleea Alexis Tesha Imelda Evins a rare, beautiful flower." She finished putting me at arms length to gaze into my eyes and smile reassuringly at me.

She was the mother figure I needed in this place, and for that I was grateful for.

After our morning encounter I got myself ready for school.

Taking a bath, I felt my muscles relax to the warmth of the water. I slowly finished, and after getting dressed I made my bed.

As I was about to leave I heard a voice calling out to me, "Tesha, wait!"

I turned back to see Xavier Mároo, the son to the man who took me.

For all Xavier and everyone in this town knew I was adopted.

They changed my last name to Mároo, but Suzette is the only one who calls me Evins. My real surname.

Xavier has never shown any sign of being like his father, but one can never be sure. An apple doesn't fall far from the tree, right?

So I always cautiously monitor him. He is not bad, but I still keep my guard up.

He jogged up to me with a dazzling smile, blonde hair messily done and green eyes shining with enthusiasm.

"I thought you and I could take a ride together?" He asked hopefully.

"And what gave you that idea?" I asked in a menacing tone.

"Tesh, you never want to do anything with me. I don't know exactly how it might feel to be adopted and all, but can't we be civil?" He asked.

I felt my whole body become jagged with a swirl of emotions that were on the verge of erupting, "Yeah, your right you know nothing!" I yelled feeling all the anger boil inside of me.

I know this was his father's doing, but hey I can't exactly find myself being friends with the son to my kidnapper, sue me.

"What have I ever said about yelling in this house?" A powerful and commanding voice spoke at the top of the staircase. I looked up to see Hugo Mároo, the cause of me being here. My kidnapper.

He glowered in my direction. My face paled upon his sight and I lowered my head. I was certain he would increase my punishment for this.

"Nothing Dad, Tesha and I were just talking about whether she can ride with me to school today," Xavier said putting an arm around me. I shuddered at the contact but Xavier took no mind to it.

"She will go with you this morning, isn't that right Azayleea?" I nodded my head.

"I said right Azayleea?" He said making me shiver.

"Yes sir," I managed to answer.

"Good," he said with a satisfied smirk, walking off to his office.

I detangled Xavier's arm from my shoulder and tried to leave as quickly as possible, but he was quick and went to grab my wrist.

I hissed in pain and pulled my wrist out of his grasp.

The wounds tend to heal in record time but the pain will still be there for some time until it eventually calms.

Xavier frowned, "What happened to your wrist Tesha?" He asked taking worried steps towards me.

"Nothing that is of your concern Xavier, now I would appreciate it if you didn't try to make me go with you to school every morning," I said storming off and walking past the driver.

"Tesha wait!" He tried catching up to me, but I turned back to me.

"You and me can never be siblings or anything Xavier, get that through your skull. I want nothing to do with you!" I shouted as my breath quickened.

"But why, what did I ever do to you?" He asked desperately.

I laughed bitterly, What did you do! What did you do?" I asked, laughing even more, though there was nothing funny happening. Tears starting to spring forth.

"Nothing, you did absolute nothing!" I said darkly and I left him in a state of confusion.
